Antique Glazed Primitive Stoneware Gallon Churn/Crock - 1800's Vineyard Home
Offered for your bidding consideration is a stoneware churn found in the basement of a home located in Stockton. California. The original home was built some time in the second half of the 19th century. It shows up on an old 1877 city map. It was situated on an early California grape vineyard. The original home was destroyed or demolished some time around 1900. Another home was built on the property to replace it. The owner(s) continued the vineyard for decades. Now nothing is left but the 2nd house and barn. This churn has all the right stuff going for it. Period craftsmanship, correct material, correct look, etc. I found others like it but they were severely damaged. There are no identifiable markings that I am able to see which also suggests this was a very utilitarian piece. Answer not found here? Feel free to ask. I respond quickly. ... moreThank you. DETAILS: Stoneware Churn 1 gallon size Glazed Unknown maker No lid. As seen Primitive 9 3/4H x 6 3/8 diameter As you can see there are some chips around the lip. But that's it. No cracks. ANTIQUE SMALL BROWN STONEWARE CROCK LATE 1800'S
This is a very nice little crock 3-3/4" across and 3-1/4 high. Even with the chip on the side it still looks great. You can see the thumbprint of the maker on the side-near bottom- almost opposite of the chip. One can only wonder about the history of this crock- its use? I have a large collection of crocks and am downsizing because I am moving into a small apartment. I bought this crock 25 years ago at an estate sale in western Ohio. If you are not satisfied with this purchase. Please contact me for return and refund. Be kind to animals.

Small Antique 1800's Pennsylvania Stoneware Crock Jug w/ Green Colored Glaze
Up for bids is a small antique stoneware pottery crock jug frpm the mid 1800's with a light green and dark brown colored glaze as pictured. It was probably made here in southwestern Pennsylvania where it was found in the basement of an old farmhouse. There were several potteries here in the mid 1800's and I do not know the maker of this jug. The jug is a dark brown color covered by a glaze with a light green colored tint to it. The jug stands 9 1/4" high and measures about 5 1/2" wide across the middle. It has an old cork in it that someone tried to remove and after breaking the top off the cork just left the rest of the cork in it. It looks like it would hold about a quart of liquid. There is one small chip on the handle as seen in the last picture. Otherwise it is in very nice overall condition with the usual marks from ... morestacking and being fired in the kiln. Being sold as pictured and described so please ask any questions you may have before you place a bid.

Description- This Jar is about 10 inches tall and about 7.5 inches at its widest point. It weighs close to 5 pounds. It has a chip out of the outer rim. And another imperfection also on the outer rim that looks like it happened during the firing process. History- In the"Norwich Directory" of 1857 is the advertisement of"Sidney Risley. No. 4 Cove St. Manufacturer of Stone Ware in Every Variety. The Trade supplied with all kinds of Stone Ware, at the lowest market prices. Risley at first leased the property. But in 1856 purchased it and continued the business until his death on April 26, 1875, at the age of sixty-one years. His son. George L. Risley, then continued the works until his tragic death on the ... moreday before Christmas, 1881. He had gone to the pottery to light the fires under an upright boiler, which blew up, and, going through the roof of the building, landed in the cove about 120 feet away. It is said that the force of the explosion was so great that the 1500-pound boiler passed completely over a fifty-foot elm tree at the rear of the pottery. Mr. Risley was so badly injured that he died that evening. An account of the accident appeared in the"Scientific American"

Stoneware Crocks, England, Doulton Lambeth, Skey Tamworth - Antique, Mid-1800's
Lot of 4 Stoneware Crocks. England- Doulton Lambeth, Skey Tamworth Lidded stoneware crocks. Kitchen canister set of 4, by Doulton Lambeth, England and George Skey of Wilnecote Works, Tamworth, England. These are early- the Doulton Lambeth mark is from 1853-1882 and the Skey Tamworth mark is from 1860-1932. Given that the crocks are nearly identical I would say that they were all made between 1853-1882 with the Skey one being 1860 and later. Although made by 2 companies they do match. Perhaps one company made blanks for the other. I don't know. 1. Tallest One: 6 1/2" tall with lid. No cracks. A couple of minor chips on rims. Unmarked. 2. Other tall one: 6 1/4" tall with lid. Has a hairline crack in both canister and lid but both are solid and tight. Marked. SKEY, Tamworth" 3. Next size down: 5 1/2" tall with lid. No ... morecracks. A couple of small chips. Stamp marked, Doulton Lambeth Limited. 4. Smallest one: 4 3/8" tall with lid. No cracks. A couple of small chips. Unmarked. It's a nice primitive set of small lidded crocks. Check the shipping options. It may cost less to ship Priority Mail to your zip code. ag6 2.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp73%28c%3Eag6%3E2-14bb85cca0f-0x111-
