This listing is for what looks like a piece of Catawba pottery. I was trying to find a mark on it but no luck. At first I thought it was Edgefield but I don't see it. You be the judge, and if this isn't what I say it is please correct me. It has a nice look to the glaze and it has some wear to it but displays great. Notable damage is to the ears and there is a chip on the bottom. There are no cracks, hairlines or restorations/repairs that I can see. The measurements are 6" in diameter at the top, 7" in diameter at the bottom and 12" high. Overall measurement of the width is 8 1/4" Looks like Pre-War to me. Antique 19th C. blue bands salt glaze stoneware yellowware butter crock aafa
I have for auction this outstanding antique salt glaze stoneware yellowware pottery butter crock with the original lid. This piece would date from the late 1800's- early 1900's. The crock remains in amazing condition for its age. With an old shallow glaze flake along the base edge, shown in the photo. It feels smooth, so could possibly have been done in the making. There are also some firing lines on the lid. Pieces like this are quite porous so such flaws were common. Otherwise the piece remains in excellent condition.
