Pleased to offer this beauty of a crock lid. I am not sure which crock maker produced this. It has a wonderful button handle with decorative embossing on it and ribbed pattern around it. Nice brown glaze center on top and interior. Clay exposed on top appears yellow. Embossed with a"3" 3 Gal) but it would possibly work on a 4 or even 5 gallon crock. I had it on a 5 gal and it covered opening. Just didn't extend to outside edge. Check measurements for your crock. PLEASE NOTE: The brown glaze had a white film on it in places(almost like salt or tainted water got on it) I cleaned and applied Linseed oil(not greasy) which restored it's beauty. In the future it may require a re-treatment of oil or polish. This is a lovely large salt glaze crock with a beautiful large cobalt blue floral leaf motif in the front. The blue design is 8 1/2"long X 6 1/2" high. Each side has the applied ear handles. Which are in excellent condition. This is a very decorative collectible crock. The blue floral design is eye-catching. Markings: Huxstun Ottman& Co. Fort Edward. NY 5(5 gallon) Circa: 1867- 1872. Measurements: 12 1/2" tall. 12 1/2" in diameter at the rim. Base is 12" inches in diameter. Condition: Very sturdy but there is a a couple tight hairline stress marks shown in my pictures and I think they might be superficial.There are external and internal discoloration stains as shown in the pictures. Offering a fine example of early American pottery. An open stoneware crock. Or cream jar signed Webster& Bergen, North Bay, NY) I believe of c 1860 era. Decorated with cobalt on the applied lug handles, on the identifying stamp. Also, cobalt opposing seahorses, as well as a seahorse stamp to the right of the identification. All very poorly applied. The jar measures 8 1/4" height and 8 3/4" outside diameter on the opening and 5 1/2" bottom diameter. I've included many images. Please check them closely. Overall in very fine antique condition showing some appropriate indication of age. Some bubble bursts from manufacture. Chips on the inner rim edge and several on the outer edge. Some well glazed over and others from use. Please check the images. Tight. Primative Butter Churn Pottery Stoneware 6 gal Catawba Two Style Handle 18'5"
Up for auction is this rare and complete Catawba Valley butter churn in excellent condition. It is the largest size made and few still exist so its quite a fine piece of history. Catawba pottery is famous for the alkaline stoneware made from the river valley of western North Carolina. Has number 6 imbedded below handle and comes with churn lid and wooden dasher. This also tells me with the style and location of the number that it is a Reinhardt piece. Another tell tale sign its a Reinhardt is the ribbing or rings that you can see and feel going around the base of churn. I captured that in the 6th picture on the inside. I couldnt get a good picture of the ribbing on the outside but it is noticable and adds more character. The handles are of two styles. One of a pig ear or lug. The other is a large loop handle. This style of churn handle was ... moredeveloped to make carrying such a large churn easier. The bottom of lid has a one inch chip/crack that was done prior to glaze and firing so its a mfg default. Its the way it was made, not at all noticable(I felt it before I saw it) but please see picture for reference. The small crack/chip is filled with glaze and is nice and smooth. Measures 18.5" tall with lid on. Top rim measures almost 10" across. Bottom measures 10.25" across. The middle is a bit wider than both top and bottom but difficult to get accurate dimention. Handle to handle is 13" I took pictures outdoors. Just want to be sure you get to see accurate pictures and colors. Also the 41" dash has a crack in the bottom portion of the wood handle. Would not be seen when inside churn. Churn alone weighs 26lbs. It will be shipped carefully with foam ect and have listed it at 30lbs for packing/box weight. Beautiful Glazed Stoneware Butter Churn. Stamped W.D. Suggs Smithville. Miss. WD Suggs pottery was active between late the 1890s to mid 1950s. Virtually perfect condition other than small chip of missing glaze on inner lip of top. Very sound structural condition with original applied handle. No damage to handle at all. 16.5" tall. 9.5" top diameter, 10” bottom diameter, 34" around at widest belt size. From my personal collection. Great for any stoneware collection. A rare near-fine piece of Americana. Shipping could be as high as $50 to $60. Depending on buyer location.

We just purchased part of a huge collection of crocks There are 10 total. Counting the whiskey jug! We have poured water in each one(the first 7 hold 1 gallon) We left water in each of the crocks for 4 hours and didn't see any leaks However we will not guarantee that they won't leak Each one is different and like things made one hundred years ago. A lot of these have imperfections. We happen to like the little dings. Color drops and weird lines, ridges and bumps. Look at all photos as they are a very big part of the description. We have tried to show all chips. Any finish issues and the top edges inside finishes and the bottoms. Most of these crocks could be used in brining with some cheesecloth and a weighted plate. Western Stoneware 5. 1/2 Gal Crock Planter Insert Dish
Hers a piece I just don't know what it is. It's signed Western Stoneware on the base with a 5. means 1/2 Gallon but thats about the content size of this. This stands approximately 6.5" tall with a top diameter of just under 6" across and base being 4.25" across. There is no chips or knicks but there is crazing to the glaze inside and out and unfortunately a visible 3" hairline crack as seen. Its still strong and holding just fine. But it is there.
