Up for bid is an antique. 2 gallon, salt fired, stoneware crock. It's marked John Burger, Rochester. He was from Rochester, NY. Ear handles. Cobalt rubbed stamped impression. Albany slip inside. There is a visible hairline crack, not sure if there are more. Some small chips on rim- see photos. I tested it for water tightness, filling it to the top with water and letting it sit overnight. All the water was still there, in the crock, not leaking. It is about 6 across the mouth. To the outside walls and is 9 3/4" high. Bottom diameter is 7 1/4" Questions welcome. Thank you for looking. Vtg REDWARE BEAN POT Societe Industrielle EARLY GLAZED CROCK 2 Handles #12 + LID
Offering a very early Redware Bean Pot. It is marked on the inside of the lid"Societe Industrielle" a star Logo and another name I can't make out- ends with espisam) and the number 12. Same marking on the side of the pot. On one side of the pot it is also marked Made in(another word I can't make out) Please enlarge the photos for better detail. The pot and lid are in very clean condition. Photo 8 shows an old chip on the inside of the lid rim. Looks to have been there a long time. The lid measures 9" across the center. 4.5" tall and 8" across the bottom. The inside of the pot has a very high glaze as does the top of the lid. You can see the rings of pottery clay around the bottom- light smudges and brown ring around the bottom. NO cracks. The handles are also very clean and tightly fitted to the pot. I am 76 years old and I bought this crock about 20 years ago from Kennison's Farm in West Virginia. It looks like is was hand formed judging by the swirls on the sides and bottom. It is the same size as a 2 gallon crock I have but it has that beautiful blue design in the shape of a number 3 on the side. There are a couple of small chips on the handles.

Tan Crock With Spongeware Band Old Crock stands 8 ½ inches tall. Opening is 4 ½ inches. There is no lid. Although it seems that it had one at one time. There is a pretty spongeware band around the middle of brown. Green and dark red. The entire crock has a beautiful crackle in the glaze. There are two fingertip handles. After careful examination. I find one hairline crack which only shows on the inside lip and the glaze on the uppermost edge of the opening is worn down, most likely from a lid. Otherwise. This crock is in very good condition. 2.5 liter two handled salt glazed primitive crock Salt glaze butter churn/crock. Or jar double handles. Pattern is possibly a Tulip and is on both sides. Vessel is a grey coloration. 2 1/2 L is painted on one side. The handles have cross hatching. Also have circular lines below each side. Please view the photos carefully as they are a part of the description. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, damage, or repairs that I've found. Measures as follows: 8 1/4" tall, top opens approx 4 3/4" across, and diameter with handles is 7 1/4" across. Towards the top rim up of one of the designs you will see a brownish dark stain that appears to be original as it is glazed over. I AM SELLING THIS CROCK FOR MY SISTER IN LAW. SHE RECEIVED IT AS A GIFT FROM HER EX HUSBANDS'S GRANDMOTHER. SHE MADE MANY PICKLES IN THIS CROCK. IT CAME OUT OF CAROLINE COUNTY IN VA. MY SISTER IN LAW HAD IT IN HER KITCHEN WHEN SHE LIVED IN AUGUSTA COUNTY. IT WAS A COUNTRY HOME THAT WAS USED AS A HOSPITAL DURING THE CIVIL WAR. There has been a rectangular piece cut of out the bottom to make it into a lamp. And the upper lip has a'double chip' on the back side, there is also a hairline crack that extends from the top of the cut-out hole on the bottom o the crock.
