This crock is in exceptional condition with no chips or cracks, and the design is fired into the glaze. The original seal and bale are here, and the seal remains pliable. Standing about 5 inches tall, and measuring about 3-1/4 inches across, it would be darling in any country or retro kitchen! In 1918 Hubert Fassbender formed his own distributing company in Kaukauna. Wisconsin, which soon became known as South Kaukauna Dairy and eventually Kaukauna Cheese. After years of experimenting, he perfected a cold pack method of cheese production. This consists of grinding natural cheese to a fine texture and, without heat, combining it with whey solids, dry milk, and flavors such as wine and spices. The flavors come through, and the product remains spreadable at room temperature. Fassbender chose a ceramic crock as the distinctive container for his new product. His cheese was served in hotels and clubs in the area and acquired the nickname"club cheese. The Kaukauna Klub brand was introduced and copyrighted in 1933. The year the firm also began to market the product in the gray stone crock. It is now produced in vacuum sealed plastic containers in step with more modern production methods. You are bidding on an antique. Ceramic, under-glaze transferred cosmetic Jar or"pot lid" as they are known. This little item dates to between 1870-1914. That is the period that we know this design was used by th is compan y of Atkinson's of LONDON. As shown in the pics. The jar displays quite nicely despite an inner flange chip which encroaches slightly to the outer side of the flange(please see pics) some slight burial stain shows on the jar. But not overly so. Up for auction today is a Vintage S to neware lid Unknown ma ker and item this goes on. But. I found it on top of a Monmouth 2 Gallon crock, and it fit, but just a bit big and d id not look right. So I am pretty sure it did not go with it-but would assume it would be for a 2 or 3 gallon stoneware crock. Measures just over 1 0.25" diameter and is 8.5" wide at t he insert that goes into the crock. That part is be veled or ang eled. I t looks like the lid may be a replacement but I cannot tell for sure. The spigot is pla stic and the interior of the cr ock and lid are immaculate so your guess as to the age of this is as good as mine. This would make a big hit on your Thanksgiving beverage table or next summer picnic. The exterior of the crock has quite a bit of crazing and also has a yellowi sh discoloration of the glaze. i do not know if it could be cleaned off but I do know it adds to the character of the item. The lid fits perfect but it is a darker brown than the other. I don't know if it was meant to be like this or another lip was put on it. There is a small chip on the outside of the crock at the bottom edge and a small chip where the color turns from beige to brown. The crock measures 4 3/4" across the bottom 3 1/2" at the opening and is 7" tall with the lid on. I do have the item pictured with a soda can or an orange ruler to help with visual size comparisons. Underside has an inner ring that measures 6-7/8" in diameter. Nice simple design. This is not bright white, but an aged white that has gray undertones to me. There are the usual slubs and imperfections from the glazing process, a couple of small darker areas. Nice condition overall. This is probably a bit small to be a crock lid and too fancy a top. I would sooner think that it's a soup tureen lid or something similar. This will ship in a Medium Flat Rate Priority Box. This has a raised lid, as is often with a salt box or crock. These came marked both as Salt or Butter; also unmarked, as is this one. We think the condition of the crock is good. But please check the pictures for your own determination. It does have a very fine crack on one side, running from the top, 3 in. down the side, not very noticeable; it has only one chip. A tiny flake on the top rim, probably a burst mould bubble. The lid has seen lots of use. It has chips and a fine crack; it does fit nice and tight on it's base. It is almost 9.5" tall. 5 3/4" acrossed the opening, andabout 7" acoss bottom, I would say this would hold over a gallon, There are no cracks to this crocks sounds great, There is some chipping to the bottom and the underside of the lid, If I am correct these crocks were used for storeing meat, you would fry it and place it in the crock and pour fat drippings over the meat and store in a cool place, you could then pull back some of the fat and get your meat out, then put the fat back on this would keep for a good spell. WISCONSIN PORCELAIN AMERICAN ART POTTERY MOTTLED BEIGE & GOLD CROCK-JAR & LID A+
Up for auction is a Scarce and Marked. Wisconsin Porcelain Company of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin(1919 to Present) 100% True Heavy Porcelain, American Art Pottery, Crock-Jar and Lid with a Brown Speckled and Mottled Gloss Beige Glaze Application along with Gold Trim in"Near-Mint" Used Condition, Circa 1930s to 1970s(or Possibly Later) which was Manufactured for an Unknown Purpose or Client at the time of this listing. This superb heavy porcelain crock-jar has no chips. Cracks, glaze crazing, scratches, scuffs, stains, repairs or factory flaws of any kind. I've graded its condition as being"Near-Mint" because when you look at the gold trim which was only applied to the lid you will see some tiny specks where some of the gold is either thin or worn away. You can see this close up by using the"Super Size" and"Zoom" ... morefeatures I've provided and you'll also see the worn gold isn't that noticeable. It really doesnt' hurt the aesthetic value of this fine crock, but it must be pointed out for accuracy sake. This jar measures about 3 3/8 inches tall with the lid on and without the lid it measures about 3 inches tall. Across the top it measures about 3 3/4 inches in diameter and the inside top opening is about 3 3/8 inches in diameter. The very bottom was left dry without glaze and it's sightly recessed which leaves a 1/2 inch wide ring base for the piece to rest on. The lid for this jar actually hangs over the top ridge so it measures about 4 7/8 inches in diameter and it's about 1 1/8 inches thick. The mark on the bottom is in-mold and it reads"Wisconsin Porcelain Co. within a recessed circle. This crock-jar was made from a true porcelain and it's a heavy porcelain piece weighing just over 2 pounds at exactly 2 pounds. 1.1 ounces. When you weigh the bottom jar section by itself it weighs 1 pound, 4.7 ounces and the lid by itself weighs 12.4 ounces. Blue and White Stoneware Apple Blossom Salt Crock with Apricot Lid
This is a blue and white salt crock in the Apple Blossom pattern with a lid from the apricot pattern. The base has a diamond background and there are apple blossoms on each side of the"salt" The lid does not look bad with this base but it is not the apple blossom pattern. It is the apricot. This item measures approximately 5 3/4" to the top of the hanger. It is a beautiful piece but it has been loved over the years and well used. The lid has been repaired and has a few chips. The base does have three cracks and hairline cracks that viewable on the backside, lip of the base and the front side of the hanger and inside the base. Please see pictures.
