Up for auction is an Antique New York Stoneware Deep Blue Flower Design 4 Gallon Crock. The New York Stoneware Co and the number 4 is impressed. The flower design is a very dark cobalt blue. Each side has an applied elephant ear handle. Circa: 1859- 1885. Fort Edward. NY) Measurements: 11 1/4" tall. 11 1/2" in diameter at the top. Base 11" in diameter. Floral decoration is about 5" wide X 6" tall. The blue floral decoration has dots and circles. Condition: This crock is being sold AS IS. This is a solid crock but it has issues. Large Blue decoration has excellent dark cobalt blue color but has a chip at the top branch. Shown in picture 2. There is a large chip at the rim above the ear handle, picture 8. We can't recall seeing this very charming mark before, and can't seem to find any record of stoneware being sold with this mark, so we're guessing it's at least very scarce if not quite rare. Probably dates to the late 1800's, we're also guessing. We're also not sure, but believe this is either from Mansfield, Ohio or Mansfield, Massachusetts. We invite emails with further information that we can add to this listing. Nicely decorated with a cobalt feather like design below the cobalt washed merchant stamp. And a stamped"2" for a 2 gallon crock above it. Measures about 8 and 3/4 inches tall and 9 and ... more1/2 inches across. There is a crack that begins at the top edge left of the decoration and ends on the base as can be seen in the photos. Otherwise, it appears to be in surprisingly good shape. The only other flaws are in the making glaze pops as can be seen in the photos, one just above the g in general(with a bit of cobalt glaze over it) and then there's one on the interior and two on the back side(each about 1/4 inch across) and some minor imperfections, scratches and wear as to be expected with a utilitarian stoneware piece. Heavy crazed thick stoneware crock with"coffee" labeled on the front. The crock has been wired at the top because of the cracks on each side. Crack on one side goes almost to the bottom of crock. The other crack goes about 3/4 of the way down side. Basketweave design over- all with a leaf design on back. This is a great old kitchen primitive. Manufacture is unknown. Crock is 5 1/2"high and 5 inches on the diameter top.

I t looks like the lid may be a replacement but I cannot tell for sure. The spigot is pla stic and the interior of the cr ock and lid are immaculate so your guess as to the age of this is as good as mine. This would make a big hit on your Thanksgiving beverage table or next summer picnic. The exterior of the crock has quite a bit of crazing and also has a yellowi sh discoloration of the glaze. i do not know if it could be cleaned off but I do know it adds to the character of the item. We are listing today for your consideration a lovely Antique 19th Century Stoneware Saltglazed Cobalt Blue Flower Design 2 Gallon Ovoid Crock. This crock is in Excellent Condition with a few spider cracks on the base with 2 going through to the inside. 3 of them extend up the outside bottom of the crock. There are minor shallow chips to the upper rim. Both outside and inside. The crock is 100% structually sound, it rings true when you tap it and holds water no leaks. No other issues at all. The crock measures 12" tall x 10" wide x 8" at the mouth x 6 1/4" at the base and weighs approximately 10lb 10oz. The crock has an incised 2 below the one handle. A lovely large crock with a great ovoid shape and applied handles. It has a heavy and dark cobalt blue flower and leaf design that borders the top half of the crock. Thank you for your interest in our auction of an ANTIQUE BLUE DECORATED. HANDLED, STONEWARE CROCK BY F. H. COWDEN OF HARRISBURG, PA. VINTAGE 1881-1888. This is a used item, that has been in my family from the beginning, in the 1880s, passed down from my great grandmother. It is still in fine condition. There are no cracks any where on it. There are two points on the bottom of the crock that my be chips out of it, or it may be that they were manufacturing flaws, but in any case, as can be seen in our photos, they are insignificant faults, and would have no effect on the use of the crock. What's more, they are on the bottom of the crock, where they wouldn't even be seen in normal usage. The crock is glazed both outside and inside, and there doesn't seem to be any crazing any where on the crock, inside or outside, that I have seen. ... moreFrom research that I have recently done on this crock, I have been happily surprised to learn that this piece representing the stoneware produced by the Cowden family of Harrisburg, PA, the capital city of Pennsylvania, is or was among the most highly collected stoneware in the nation. Up for bids is a one gallon antique gray colored stoneware crock with a cobalt blue feather pattern as pictured. The crock is probably native to here in southwestern Pennsylvania where many famous potters made their crocks and jugs with this color clay and blue designs in the mid 1800's. The crock stands 10 1/4" high and measures 6 1/4" wide across the top rim and 6 3/4" wide across the bottom. If your looking at the crock from the front where the number one is there is one chip on the top left side. Offering a nice Antique Blue and White stoneware Salt or Butter Crock with Lid. It has a nice two-tone blue& white color on the crock and lid. With blue only on the inside. This has a raised lid, as is often with a salt box or crock. These came marked both as Salt or Butter; also unmarked, as is this one. We think the condition of the crock is good. But please check the pictures for your own determination. It does have a very fine crack on one side, running from the top, 3 in. down the side, not very noticeable; it has only one chip. A tiny flake on the top rim, probably a burst mould bubble. The lid has seen lots of use. It has chips and a fine crack; it does fit nice and tight on it's base. This Rare 2Gal. Taunton Blue Bird" Crock is absolutely stunning. The Cobalt decoration is big. Bold and flawless; a perfectly executed Slip-Trailed design. This folky Bird is heavily shaded and perched on a thick, dotted twig. Clearly impressed on the shoulder: F,T, WRIGHT& SON, TAUNTON, MASS. There should be periods, rather than commas(F.T. WRIGHT) but this stamp error only adds to the appeal! Franklin Wright(and his son) ran this Massachusetts stoneware manufactory for 10 years, beginning in 1866. Fine, consistent Salt Glaze exterior; Albany Slip inside; some age-appropriate mineral stains on the rim and inside edge. A few insignificant nicks on the inner rim; otherwise in excellent overall condition! No cracks, repaired damage, restorations or other excuses! Antique Blue White Salt Glaze Stoneware Large Milk Crock Bail Bowl RARE! Minty!
In the years that I have owned this bowl I have never seen another one. The best I can tell from my internet research and consulting the Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware. This is an Apple Blossom on diamond waffle patterned salt glazed stoneware milk crock. It is missing the bail. Aside from that, this piece is near mint. There is a imperfection in one of the bail ears that appears it may have occurred during the firing process because it looks glazed over. No other cracks, no chips. It measures 10" across(or just under 11.5" from bail ear to ear) 5" high and 6" wide across the base. Milk crocks this size in other patterns are in the book. The molding on this is very sharp and crisp. The apple blossom on diamond waffle is shown on other pieces such as butter and salt crocks, however I cannot find this ... morepattern on this bowl anywhere. T.F. Reppert antique stoneware crock from Greensboro PA. Sadly this one is broken. It was shipped to my father and didn't survive the trip. He is thinning out his collection beginning with the broken ones. This was broken into pieces and glue repaired. I'm sure a professional repair job could be possible. But this feels pretty sturdy as is. It would not hold water but still displays well. It's a beautiful piece of history that can't be replaced and shouldn't just be thrown away because it's broken. So, in it's AS IS state, with this low starting price I would say this would be a great piece to bulk up a growing or new collection, or for shelf display. This is a blue and white salt crock in the Apple Blossom pattern with a lid from the apricot pattern. The base has a diamond background and there are apple blossoms on each side of the"salt" The lid does not look bad with this base but it is not the apple blossom pattern. It is the apricot. This item measures approximately 5 3/4" to the top of the hanger. It is a beautiful piece but it has been loved over the years and well used. The lid has been repaired and has a few chips. The base does have three cracks and hairline cracks that viewable on the backside, lip of the base and the front side of the hanger and inside the base. Please see pictures. As identified in the Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware. This auction is for a common pattern Daisy And Trellis Butter Holder. It measures 6" wide by 4.75 tall. Mint value $125- $175. There are six large daisies on a close trellis background. This is missing a lid and a bail which it held at one time. Bail holes for this mold were not made to go through to the interior. There is one fine hairline crack on the interior of bail hole placement that extends from top down approx 2.75" it is not visible on outside surface.
