Each drawer has the 1892 and 1894 patent date on them.The Library Bureau Sole Makers Company was in business from the early 1880s to about 1925.I guess the library in the 1890s had to be the only gateway to the world and the hands that were in these drawers.Very nice old patina and there are a few issues but not major and easily addressed and fixable with low expense.There is a piece along the right rear back panel which is not really visible from the front.A couple drawers have some cracks and one has a piece of the rear panel gone but every issue is repairable and I have not altered or repaired anything so you are dealing with the original item.No screws or glue added but it could use some skill to keep it original.There was tape used on the exterior over the years and those are the shadows you see in the photographs.The shadow of the ring on the top was put there by the original librarian so I had a place to put my coffee cup.It is a really cool piece and soundly built.Another 100 years is no problem with this guy. I hauled this out of the basement of an old home, and it is showing some age ... morewear, most notably with a couple slices out of drawer faces. There is slight pull away of the dovetailing on the bottom, but I think you could probably carefully tap it back into place. The previous owner did a very slap-up job of putting a dark stain on it, so the finish is somewhat inconsistent, you can see the oak in places inside, and there are faint watermarks on top, but I honestly love the look and character of this piece, and it's completely solid and functional. All four metal sliders are still inside, though they are a little stiff/rusty. Measures about 16" x 13 1/2" x 9 1/2".

ANTIQUE OAK LIBRARY SOLE MAKERS CARD CATALOG FILE CABINET RARE LONG OPEN DRAWERS
Antique Library card catalog. Made by the Library Bureau Sole Makers Company. Made of oak. Appears to have never been refinished. Shows years of loving wear. Please see all the pictures for a better idea of condition. There are 3 drawers with 6 areas for cards. The drawers are unlike most cabinets and are open rather than seperated into cubbies. This actually makes it much more usefull than most other cabinets. Only one drawer still retains the inside hardware. All drawers retyain the original outside hardware. One very interesting thing about this cabinet are the hand holds that were carved into the sides. This cabinet was apparently moved alot so the hand holds were added after production to aid in moving the cabinet. Normally I would say this would hurt the value but in this case they were probably added around 100 years ago and I feel ... morethis actually makes it even more interesting. I wish I knew the story of why they were added. Possibly a portable library. Think about it. Its very interesting and personally I feel since it was done so long ago it adds to the history and interest of this wonderfull piece.We will ship anywhere in the Continental United States fully insured for 35.00. You get a coffee table AND the mother of all storage cabinets! BEAUTIFUL PIECE made by GAYLORD BROS. INC as a library card catalog. Blond wood. Most likely maple, but not positive. All 12 drawers are dovetailed and glide smoothly. They all have thick, brass finger pulls with label holders. Heavy, solid construction(weighing 45LBS) with a very nice patina. It measures approx. 20 1/8 inches wide, 18 inches deep, and 17 1/8 inches tall. Inside of drawer measures 14 11/16 inches long, 5 3/16 wide, and 3 1/2 tall. A 12 1/2" by 13" by 8" four drawer Sole Makers Library Bureau made of quarter sawn(tiger) oak. The 4 drawers are made to fit 3" by 5" cards. This piece is quality made with hand worked dovetails. Paneled back, quality workmanship throughout, two of the draws have the original inserts that would be adjusted front or back depending on how full the draw was, these inserts are both labeled"Library Bureau" with patent dates listed for New York/ Chicago, Boston/ Washington, and Philadelphia/ London, the dates range from March 15, 1892, to May 26, 1903. As you can see from the pictures the piece could use a little love but it is extremely solid- the drawers open and shut as designed and the tab to support the index cards will move back and forth as supposed to. Aside from the small area on the back of the piece where a piece of the wood chipped off. All of the original wood is in nice condition. This vintage industrial cabinet has been painted blue and is missing a few drawer pulls. Lurking underneath that paint. However, is tiger oak wood. Those card catalog pulls can likely be replaced and all the adjustable interior backing pieces are in place. The dimensions of the cabinet are 33.25" L x 18" D x 58.5" T. There are 38 drawers in total in this cabinet. There are nine drawers measuring 5.25" L x 9.5" W x 1" D inside, fifteen drawers measuring 13.24" L x 5 1/8" W x 3.25" D inside, twelve drawers measuring 13.75" L x 3 5/8" W x 3 5/8" D inside, and two drawers measuring 13" L x 15" W x 10.5" D inside. The cabinet is modular and the segments can be rearranged to suit your preference. It also allows the cabinet to be moved more easily. 1940s Vintage "Weis" Wood Library Index Card Catalog Industrial Cabinet File
This antique"Weis" index card catalog file cabinet measures 19-1/4 inches wide. 15" deep, and 14-1/2" tall. Modular construction, it has a top half and a bottom half, with two drawers per section. The drawer fronts are made of wood, not oak, fine grain hardwood such as ash or maybe poplar, and is painted olive drab green. The sides and back are made of a thin sheet material, perhaps plywood or masonite. Please note the original Weis decal located on the top of the cabinet. The drawer pulls are made of metal, probably steel, but I didn't check. This type of cabinet is great for index card storage, of course, but I have others like it that make great'small parts storage' for my workshop. It is in very nice to excellent condition. This is about as nice as they get. a beautiful piece worthy of use and/or display just about anywhere. I don’t know the manufacturer(Globe. Remington Rand, Gaylord Brothers. Sole Makers? but the craftsmanship of this piece is superb. There is a laminate piece that was placed on the top. There are 2 drilled holes in the top. Faded paint? markings throughout. One drawer pull is split, there is one pull missing. Antique Mission era oak card catalog. It is probably Weis. This is a 2 piece stacking unit. More pieces could probably be added. It has great patina with a dark oak finish. It would be lovely refinished. The cards drawers are wood and slide easily with no breaks. The unit does show some age cracks on the side and is actually missing some wood- see pictures. Very solid and heavy. Check the pictures. The drawers are just over 6" across and just over 4" tall so it was made to fit the 4x6" index cards. The entire unit measure 13.5" tall. 15" deep, 10" tall. This box was initially part of a stacking card file unit. Since I didn’t have the top section. I decided to add a piece of solid walnut to the top. Great Vintage 1920's Shaw Walker oak wood card file catalog cabinet storage with 6 drawers- has dovetail corners- metal drawer pulls with label holders- the drawers open nicely and have a moving divider in each drawer- the oak wood is aged with a great patina to it.
