With the original brass drawer pull, and brass tag that reads"Y and E" It has the original adjustable sliding card holder in the drawer. Everything operates smoothly, the back however is missing(see picture) and there is some paint splatter on the front. These files were in common use in the early part of the 20th century in libraries, schools, and offices and were built to last. This example has wonderful quartersawn oak wood grain patterns and quality dovetailed construction with a few small cracks on the sides from over the years, but does not affect the overall condition. For auction is one beautiful vintage 4-drawer quarter-sawn oak file cabinet from the early 1900s. It is in fantastic original condition. The finish is original and has only minor nicks and scratches. The brass hardware retains its original patina. And all hardware is accounted for. Each drawer has a dark green metal adjustable divider inside, and the top drawer has the original LBSM patent decal inside the drawer face. All metal glides operate smoothly. The finish is slightly lighter inside the label holders. There is also a slightly darker area on the top towards the front left of the cabinet(see photo) There is only one side panel. But it is reversible, so assuming the file cabinet is placed with one side against a wall, you can use the side panel on whichever side faces the room. The files have normal surface wear; the top cover section has a stain and 1 deeper scratch; the backing wood on the larger bottom file is loosening but backing wood is an easy fix if desired. The photos should tell you a fine idea of the condition of the 4 section. Overall very good and quite solid. The oak has a wonderful aged patina. We would prefer a local pick-up. Description: This is a GREAT OLD CARD FILE CABINET. It is made by the Library Bureau Sole Makers Co. in the early 1900s. It is solid oak with wonderful paneled sides and back. There are 60 drawers. 3 cabinet doors and 3 slide out shelves. It is in beautiful original condition outside of the normal use that would be expected. There are nicks on 3 of the top corners and 2 of the bottom corners as shown in the pictures. All of the rods and pulls are present and original. The black clasps on the bottom doors are replacements. Stands 60 inches tall. Is 40 inches wide and is 16 inches deep. The great thing about this file is that the oak drawers are pretty much solid on the bottoms so if you wanted to remove the rods it would make it a lot more usable for holding other items. There is front wear from the drawers being taken in and out and staining to the top. There is also a portion with a red and white spray-painted area on the side just below old'ORC' lettering. It measures 19.5"L x 13.35"W x 12.75"H. The pictures show how great this cabinet really is. The only flaws that are really visible, besides normal wear and tear, are seen in the last 2 photos, a small gouge in the upper right drawer and 2 small screw holes that have been filled, in the middle lower drawer. This is a single oak file cabinet in good shape with some minor signs of wear. It has a plate marked"Library Bureau Sole Makers" on the front under the top drawers. This is one of the few cabinets that come through finished all the way around so that you can leave it out in the middle of the room to made admired from all angles. This cabinet has been all completed refinished. Which means it has been all stripped, sanded, stained, multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer and the brass has been rubbed and reinstalled. The unusual thing about this file cabinet, besides that it is legal size, is that the top drawer is set up for index cards in the old days, but now they use it for a portfolio drawer. It is wide open in the center if you take the three rods out to make a portfolio drawer. The knobs on the top drawer are different than the ones on the bottom drawers as they are always missing, but we put them back in even though we take the rods out. We leave the knobs in the front to simulate that they are there, because that seems to be the way the customers like it. It measures 61.5 inches in height. 41.5 inches wide in front and 17.5 inches in depth. There are many drawers, some have the wood bookened support inside, but all are missing the metal rods to hold the file cards. It will fit cards that are 5x3.25 inches. It is in excellent condition and all original. The finish is very clean and original. It is a good looking clean golden oak file cabinet. Purchased from old building auction. I will do my best to describe. 12 drawers. Oak outer, metal inner all marked Globe. This is 2 pieces stacked, 6 drawers each. This will need some restoration. There is a laminate piece that was placed on the top. There are 2 drilled holes in the top. Faded paint? markings throughout. One drawer pull is split, there is one pull missing. Wheels were attached on the bottom with ply wood, can be removed. This stands 26.6" tall minus the wheels and ply wood. 33" in width. Very heavy. It is in overall very nice condition. Though the retaining knobs and rods the hold files in place are missing and one of the little brass category frames that are just above the handle. As well as two if the wood backing plates for the files I have included photo of the replacement piece that is being used. This is a matching eight drawer cabinet so it is quite heavy. Up for sale is a Beautiful Old Vintage Antique Oak File Filing Office Legal Cabinet Furniture by Library Bureau Sole Makers(or Solemakers) This is a very nice cabinet that has the perfect Mission. Arts& Crafts style. I believe this was made in 1901 as the metal clasps on the inside of the drawers(see photo) are marked"Pat. Sept. 24 1901" This cabinet features 4 drawers with nice architectural pulls/ hardware. The plaque on the front of the cabinet reads"Library Bureau Sole Makers" It's a very heavy piece. It weighs about 55 pounds. It measures 17 5/8" tall, is 15 1/4" wide and is 23 3/4" deep(front to back) Please see photo with soda can for a sizing reference. I'm not sure if this used to sit on an office table or a library ... moredesk. The drawer face measures 12 1/2" wide x 3 1/2" tall/high. There's 2 section in each drawer so I think they were used for card filing. There are wood pieces in the back of each drawer(which I guess was used for adjusting the cards) but there is one drawer that's missing one. The cabinet shows wear as would be expected of an old. Heavily used wood(tiger oak? not sure) cabinet- it has scratches, scrapes marks, dings, dirt etc.The metal parts display tarnish. On the bottom the left corner, on the front of the cabinet, there's an approximately 1 1/2"2" section of damage to the wood. This is crafted of quarter sawn Oak and is in good condition considering its age…beautiful wood grain patterns. And high quality dovetailed construction as seen in the photos. The drawers hold 3" by 5" index cards or photos. The file has original brass pulls, and the manufacturers emblem is brass as well that reads: Library Bureau Sole Makers. The four drawers do not have the same color, I am not for sure if it is different wood or just a different finish, but they are not the same color. The joints might not be as tight as they once were, but once again this is a very old piece. I would consider this piece to be very clean. The bottom is not as smooth finished as the rest of the cabinet and it is full of scratches and dings. Some type of oil or finish has been applied to it and the inside of the box and the bottom of the drawers does not have the oil applied to it. I have made a video at the bottom of the page so you can see how the drawers open and close. Also two of the four drawers has a small hole on the front of them and they all have scratches and dings.

All drawers are solid wood construction with dovetail joints at front and finger joints at drawer backs, made to hold 3x5 cards. Measurements are 16.5" long by 5.5" wide, drawer fronts measure 4" tall and backs are 2" high. This lot of 3 is in need of some repair or can be used for parts. Offered for your consideration is a great antique 15-drawer oak card file cabinet. Beautiful craftsmanship with dovetailed drawers- and it sits atop ball feet. Versatile piece due to its height and finished back– could be used for so many things. In the office. Kitchen, family room- use it as a bench in the bedroom at the end of your bed for storage, use it to store wine bottles, and so much more. CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition with normal wear due to age and use. There is a chip in the oak on the front edge and underside of the top. All 15 drawers have the adjustment slides to keep cards in the upright position. On one of the drawers– the pull needs a replacement screw and the other screw is not original. This is an absolutely beautiful piece that has been fully refurbished. Contains 30 drawers and is in impeccable condition. I have had this piece since 1990 and had it refurbished in 2010.
