Each drawer has the 1892 and 1894 patent date on them.The Library Bureau Sole Makers Company was in business from the early 1880s to about 1925.I guess the library in the 1890s had to be the only gateway to the world and the hands that were in these drawers.Very nice old patina and there are a few issues but not major and easily addressed and fixable with low expense.There is a piece along the right rear back panel which is not really visible from the front.A couple drawers have some cracks and one has a piece of the rear panel gone but every issue is repairable and I have not altered or repaired anything so you are dealing with the original item.No screws or glue added but it could use some skill to keep it original.There was tape used on the exterior over the years and those are the shadows you see in the photographs.The shadow of the ring on the top was put there by the original librarian so I had a place to put my coffee cup.It is a really cool piece and soundly built.Another 100 years is no problem with this guy. Circa 1900 Mahogany Green leather inlaid steps Sturdy and strong Minor surface wear, Here is a very hard to find set of antique library steps. These steps were made in England sometime around 1900 and we have recently imported them into our Atlanta. GA antique furniture store. Library steps like this were designed to allow someone to reach the top shelves of the bookcases in their libraries. Some are simple but others like this one are more decorative and add elegance as well as utility to the room they inhabit. The wood used is solid mahogany and the stairs themselves are covered in a green leather with gold tooling. A mahogany pole is central to the steps allowing one a place to use their left hand to keep balance while perusing books with the right. This pole is topped with a decorative brass cap. These antique library steps are in very good condition. The only wear is some superficial surface wear to the stairs as you can see in the photos. Structurally the steps are sound. At 180 pounds I am able to climb to the top stair and feel very stable. This is a very unusual find and would make a really interesting addition to any room with tall bookcases. These antique library steps are sturdy and beautiful. The four stairs spiral around the balance pole. Here you can see some of the minor surface wear to each step. The mahogany feet are quite sturdy. Each step is covered in gorgeous green leather. A beautiful and interesting addition to any home or office. The turned mahogany balance pole is capped with a brass top. Have Questions? This is an old favorite of mine.Small enough to be very versatile.My mother was a librarian and I have her large 60 and 72 drawer units from her library but this guy is a real treasure.The larger units are from the 60s, this guy with it's dovetailed joints goes back to the 1890s. Each drawer has the 1892 and 1894 patent date on them.The Library Bureau Sole Makers Company was in business from the early 1880s to about 1925.I guess the library in the 1890s had to be the only gateway to the world and the hands that were in these drawers.Very nice old patina and there are a few issues but not major and easily addressed and fixable with low expense.There is a piece along the right rear back panel which is not really visible from the front.A couple drawers have some cracks and one has a piece of the rear panel gone but every issue is repairable ... moreand I have not altered or repaired anything so you are dealing with the original item.No screws or glue added but it could use some skill to keep it original.There was tape used on the exterior over the years and those are the shadows you see in the photographs.The shadow of the ring on the top was put there by the original librarian so I had a place to put my coffee cup.It is a really cool piece and soundly built.Another 100 years is no problem with this guy. Vintage 1 Drawer Antique Oak Library Bureau File Card Catalog Index Yawman Erbe
This listing is for a nice vintage cabinet by the Yawman and Erbe It is a one-drawer example. With the original brass drawer pull, and brass tag that reads"Y and E" It has the original adjustable sliding card holder in the drawer. Everything operates smoothly, the back however is missing(see picture) and there is some paint splatter on the front. These files were in common use in the early part of the 20th century in libraries, schools, and offices and were built to last. This example has wonderful quartersawn oak wood grain patterns and quality dovetailed construction with a few small cracks on the sides from over the years, but does not affect the overall condition. The dimensions of this file are approx. 7.5" wide by 16" deep by 10.5" tall.quite a bit taller than a standard card catalog. For auction is one beautiful vintage 4-drawer quarter-sawn oak file cabinet from the early 1900s. It is in fantastic original condition. The finish is original and has only minor nicks and scratches. The brass hardware retains its original patina. And all hardware is accounted for. Each drawer has a dark green metal adjustable divider inside, and the top drawer has the original LBSM patent decal inside the drawer face. All metal glides operate smoothly. The finish is slightly lighter inside the label holders. There is also a slightly darker area on the top towards the front left of the cabinet(see photo) There is only one side panel. But it is reversible, so assuming the file cabinet is placed with one side against a wall, you can use the side panel on whichever side faces the room. These cabinets were made to screw together in rows, so you ... morecan also attach it to an existing LBSM file cabinet of the same size and vintage. There is a date stamp on the inside(JUN 15 1922) which I assume is the date of manufacture. VINTAGE GLOBE WERNICKE LIBRARY CARD CATALOG CABINET FINISH 237 W-OAK
Up for auction is this really nice vintage library card cabinet by Globe Wernicke from Cincinnati.It is a 2 drawer unit. I don't know when it was produced. It still has a paper label on the inside of the cabinet that has the makers name and the stain number. The drawers have dovetails. The cabinet does not. There is a small strip of the veneer missing on the back panel of the cabinet at the bottom approx. 1/2' wide see photo no. 5. It also still has the catalog brass medallion on the side see photo no. 6. It has been refinished at 1 time or another. But seems to still be it's original color. It measures approx.14' across x 16 1/2' deep and 5 1/2' high. The drawers are in good solid condition and good working order. Please ask questions before bidding. Payment is due 7 days fro closing. The finish does have some minor flaws. There is what look like a little paint on the top in 1 spot. The overall appearance is nice. It would look very nice with a light coat of clear wax to clean it and bring out the beautiful grain. The pulls are non-magnetic and appear to be brass. The construction is very nice with dove tail joints and is still in good shape as far as the stability. Each drawer has a card hold the works to keep them from falling back if the drawer isn't full. This is a single oak file cabinet in good shape with some minor signs of wear. It has a plate marked"Library Bureau Sole Makers" on the front under the top drawers. Library Bureau made"top of the line" Oak file cabinets back in the early 1900's. No others compare! This is a beautiful vintage file cabinet. The tiger striped oak is beautiful on this piece as pictured. Brass hardware is intact and finish is excellent, 100% original. The left side of the cabinet is open. Originally intended to line up with another cabinet. I placed this side toward the wall. The inside measure of drawers are 12"W x 24"D. The large drawer fronts are about 11" high and the small drawer fronts are about 5.5" high. Overall, the piece is about 16 5/8" wide x 51 1/2" high x 27" deep. Up for sale is a vintage library card catalog. It is a four drawer. Dovetailed oak, two piece stacking unit. The drawers are wood, and in excellent condition with their original brass pulls. All the drawers slide fairly easily, except for drawer L-Q which has some wear on the wood but it still works fine. The metal rods and card stop/supports are all there and work well. Supports are stamped Pat. June 25, 1912. The bottom stacking piece has some age cracks along the sides in addition to some scuffs and scratches. Paint spatters, and a few dings to the wood. The pictures show the worst age cracks where the wood is split in two places, but it is still solid and together. Dimensions of the two stacks combined is 13 3/8" wide. 10 1/4" tall, and 15" deep. Vintage Card Catalog This is vintage 6-drawer card catalog. It is composed of oak wood with a medium-tone finish. The bottom of the catalog is made of pressed board. The catalog was made to hold standard 3" by 5" index cards with holes in them. A rod inserts through the hole in the cards to hold them in place. The rods are released when a small amount of pressure is applied to the bottom of the knob as it is pulled outward. Each drawer is approximately 1/4 full of blank index cards. The drawers stick out from the body of the cabinet approximately 1/8" On the face of each drawer is a brass handle with a window for inserting a drawer label. GREETINGS! This fabulous oak 60 drawer stacking library index card file was manufactured by the Yawman& Erbe Manufacturing Company Y& E of Rochester New York. The company was founded by Philip H Yawman& Gustav Erbe in 1880 and I believe this piece to be from circa 1900. It breaks apart into 12 sections of 5 drawers each plus another piece which is the top of the cabinet. It measures 59" tall at it's highest point and is 33" wide and 17" deep(18" with the handles) Each shelf measures 5 1/8" wide x 15 1/2" long x 2 1/8" to the top of the of the drawer or 3 1/2" to the top of the front of the drawer without an insert. I have inserts for each of the shelf units though so you can use them for storage without having to worry about the fact this was at one time a library card index file. Up for sale is a Beautiful Old Vintage Antique Oak File Filing Office Legal Cabinet Furniture by Library Bureau Sole Makers(or Solemakers) This is a very nice cabinet that has the perfect Mission. Arts& Crafts style. I believe this was made in 1901 as the metal clasps on the inside of the drawers(see photo) are marked"Pat. Sept. 24 1901" This cabinet features 4 drawers with nice architectural pulls/ hardware. The plaque on the front of the cabinet reads"Library Bureau Sole Makers" It's a very heavy piece. It weighs about 55 pounds. It measures 17 5/8" tall, is 15 1/4" wide and is 23 3/4" deep(front to back) Please see photo with soda can for a sizing reference. I'm not sure if this used to sit on an office table or a library ... moredesk. The drawer face measures 12 1/2" wide x 3 1/2" tall/high. There's 2 section in each drawer so I think they were used for card filing. There are wood pieces in the back of each drawer(which I guess was used for adjusting the cards) but there is one drawer that's missing one. The cabinet shows wear as would be expected of an old. Heavily used wood(tiger oak? not sure) cabinet- it has scratches, scrapes marks, dings, dirt etc.The metal parts display tarnish. On the bottom the left corner, on the front of the cabinet, there's an approximately 1 1/2"2" section of damage to the wood. This is a lovely 6 drawer index card filing cabinet. It is in"as found" condition and has not been repaired or restored by us. The cabinet is made from solid oak and has a super depth of colour and patina. The cabinet is solidly made and is consequently, heavy. The cabinet was not designed to be a"quality" piece of furniture. But was practical and to be used. Hence, there are marks, scratches, stains and chips to the body and drawers of the cabinet, as you can see from the pictures. The fittings are in copper plate. Some of which has worn away and the base metal is showing through in places. The two handles on the sides are replacements, however, they ... moreare sturdy and well attached. The cabinet has a locking mechanism which runs along the back of the drawers. This has a lock, unfortunately, the remains of the original key is still in the lock. The drawers run well. And are well made and solid and are constructed with finger joints.Some of the drawers still have their original painted metal internal stops. This is a fabulous piece of industrial furniture and it shows wonderful signs of age and use and is looking to continue its working life as a true vintage storage piece. It is also a good size to make an interesting"coffee" table. Please note as this was designed for index cards if you do want to use for different storage you may need to put something into the bottom of the drawers to prevent items falling through the gap! Just thought I'd mention it for clarity! It measures 30 cm(12 inches) high. It is 59 cm(23 1/4 inches) long and is 39 cm(15 1/4 inches) wide. This cabinet is probably close to 80 years old and is in still really good condition it has dovetail jointing on the cabinet and on the drawer pulls themselves. It is Tiger oak wood and there are a lot of tiger stripes throughout. I've never seen one with with such an array of tiger stripes. One of the drawers has a solid bottom in it for pencils and tape and staplers and what have you. The plywood on the back has a 1 inch to a 1& 1/2 inch wide piece of veneer missing off of it which could be darkened and backed up against a wall and not even noticed. The cabinet measures 13& 1/2wide by 13& 1/2 tall by 16&1/2 deep. The drawer measures 5& 1/8 wide by 3& 1/4 tall by 14& 1/2 inches deep. The keepers all work properly too. Up for your consideration is a vintage library file cabinet The condition is excellent to very good. There is a small chip off the side if one drawer front. There is a gap in the seem on the lower right corner. That being said all other seems around it are tight so I don't know why that small space is there. The inside of the drawers are almost like new. There are some chips on the bottom edge of the back panel. This is truly an outstanding piece. And still has both adjustable card supports in the drawers. This has very nice quartersawn oak wood grain patterns and features quality dovetailed construction. This is an antique oak card catalog. Made around 1930S. It was made by the company"GLOBE" globe label and brass name plates and has the original brass tag and drawer pulls. It is in good original condition and drawers work as should. Both card supports are still present in the drawers and work well. This card file holds 3" by 5" index cards. This is a really well made file, with good construction all around. Please look at the photos. The finish is darker than the photos. The outside dimensions are 7 1/2" inches wide by 17" inches deep by 9 1/2" inches tall, so this is the great size to sit on a desk or kitchen counter top.

This auction is for an old oak 2 drawer 3 X 5 index card file. It is made by COLE STEEL EQUIPMENT CO. NY. USA. It measures 18" long, 14" wide and 6" high. There is a tight split in the top of the cabinet which is still secure. There is a few stains on the finish. The drawers slide smoothly. One metal frame rail on the bottom of the drawer, probably part of a system used to compress the index cards when the drawer in not full, is missing. Ple ase see photo's and email with any questions.
