Vintage China Cabinet With Lattice Glass Door & Bottom Drawer-c. 1920s-1930s
This vintage china cabinet probably dates from the 1920s-1930s. It stands approx. 68 3/4" high. Is about 36 3/4" wide and 16" deep. The bottom section is a drawer. Inside the latticed glass door are two shelves. Grooved to hold plates. Someone has added eight cup hooks to the top of the inside. The piece has been stained. I don't know what kind of wood it is. Although the inside of the drawer looks like oak. Everything is in good condition. Solidly put together, but the finish is not perfect. I believe it is good enough to be used as is but some may want to refinish it. The door latches. But there is a bit of a gap at the top when latched(see last photo) which could probably be easily fixed by someone who knew how. I am offering without reserve a very nice. Antique custom made, solid hardwood corner china cabinet/cupboard. This corner piece was taken from an old home in Eastland, Texas. The cabinet retains the original white paint on the exterior and blue paint on the interior. The upper portion of the cabinet has a single glazed door that swings to the right. The framework for the glass is arched and divided into 18 old wavy glass panes. The lower part of the cabinet has two blind doors. The wood pulls and brass hinges are original to the cupboard and all are in excellent condition. The top section and the lower section are fitted with stationery shelves. This cabinet was built in the old home and there is a notch about 6" from the bottom on each side that allowed the wide baseboard to join the cabinet. There are four oval inlays of classical urns in light mahogany and maple. The skirt is in cupid's bow form. This auction is for one of two beautiful 1930s/1940s glass hinged door bookcases/curio cabinets/china cabinets which I have had FULLY RESTORED. It belonged to my Grandmother and I had it professionally refinished inside and out in a dark Mahogany/walnut stain/finish(which includes the top of the shelves. Legs and the inside back of the interior) This piece is wonderful because it can be used as a book case. China cabinet or curio cabinet. I have used it as all three over the years. Please note: this auction is for the sale of the cabinet only. All decorations. Dishes, books etc. are for display purposes and NOT included. This piece has the original brass door hinges. Lock and inner door shelf lock hardware(please note there is no key. I was never able to locate the original key– however, the right door will not lock on its own, I am including ... morethe gold metal‘doo dad’ I have used all these years to open the door) It has 3 removable shelves, not counting the fourth bottom shelf, with the original brass under the shelf supports. The left door has a latch that allows it to‘lock’ The door is released when you activate the inner lever. This book case/china cabinet measures approximately 37.0” across by 15.0” deep by 55.0” high. At its widest points. The depth of the inside of each shelf measures approximately 12.0” As you can see large books as well as china can be easily placed on these strong adjustable shelves. The detailing is superb. Just take a look at the beautiful door lock hardware and matching door hinges and the stately top cornice. One of the major expenses in purchasing beautiful pieces like this is in the restoration or refinishing of the piece. I can honestly tell you that the gentleman who refinished/restored this piece did a masterful job and has been commissioned to painstakingly restore the interior of the State Capital of Michigan. Bidding on an antique china cabinet I bought years ago to restore and never finished. I believe the wood is oak. It has 4 shelves. The piece has been stripped of the finish. There is some staining on the wood. I was going to use oxalic acid to remove the stains. There are a couple small pieces of trim that appear to be missing. The small piece at the top in the back is missing and the bottom front below the door also is missing some trim bits. The back panel was never there when I bought it. The curved glass in the door is in good shape, no cracks. Pickup onl;y here in Southampton, Pa, about 25 miles north of Philadelphia.
