Vintage 6" Master silverplate silent butler crumb catcher, silverplate handle
One piece of silverplate I wanted came in a box with lots of other pieces. Don't have room for all so looking for new homes for some pieces. Will be glad to combine shipments. This is a 6" diameter silent butler or maybe called a crumb catcher. Inside nice and clean. Outside needs a good polishing. Most I've sseen have a wooden handle, but this one has a flat, metal handle. Right by the hinge there is a mark too small to capture in a photo that I think says MASTER. In nice condition but does need cleaning. If you look closely at photos and see some dots on the seam where lid meets bottom. It is in excellent condition. The only flaws are a little wear on the handle. And a few tiny black bumps inside that I did not try to clean. The butler may need polishing. ANTIQUE 1900'S SILVER PLATED SILENT BUTLER TO EMPTY ASHTRAYS& CRUMB CATCHER-MADE IN ITALY This silent butler dates back to the 1900's. It was used to politely empty ashtrays. It measures 7 1/2" wide. 5 1/4" deep and 2" 1/2" high. The attached handle measures 4 1/4" Victorian inspired silver plated silent butler made by the Sheffield Silver Company which began in 1908 in Brooklyn. NY. They produced plated silver hollowware. The company later moved to Massachusetts and became a division of reed and barton in 1974. This beauty features a rectangular receptacle with a wooden handle, hinged lid and claw-shaped handle to open the lid! Notice the coat of arms insignia on the top of the lid. Marked EPC with the insignia used between 1935 and 1950. Numbered 269. The silver plate is in good shape as is the wooden ... morehandle. It does have a rearing horse design on the front and is marked on the back. I have this a quick clean/polish and shined up really niceleyl it could probably benefit from another finishing clean. From a local estate. This auction offers a vintage silverplate silent butler or crumb catcher made by the Napier Company. The company startee in 1875 by E. A. Bliss and J. E. Carpenter. It was originally called Carpenter& Bliss, then became the E. A. Bliss Co. in 1883. In 1920 the company changed its name to Napier-Bliss Co. and in 1922 the name Napier Company was adopted. I believe this piece dates to the 1940's/1950's. It has an embossed horse head on the lid. From the looks of the interior, I believe it was never actually used. It needs a little polishing and buffing, but is otherwise in excellent condition. It measures approximately 10" long x 6 1/8" at the widest point. Today it can be used for small hors d'oeuvres or hold tiny biscuits on a buffet table. Measurements: 8 1/2' by 8 1/2" Condition: Good. Used in bygone days to artfully collect ashes and crumbs, made by the Henry Birks and Sons Company(Montreal, Quebec, Canada) Henry Birks opened a jewellry store in Montreal in 1879. In 1893. He went into partnership with his three sons, and created Henry Birks and Sons. Birks is known worldwide for the production and retailing of high quality Sterling Silver and Silverplated holloware. Primrose Plate was one of their Brand Names. In 2005, Birks merged with the American chain, Mayors Jewellers.Birks& Mayors now has over 50 stores across North America. We cannot date this piece with certainty. But expect that it was likely made in the 1930's or 1940's, which would suggest that this item is about 70-80 years old. The Silent Bulter ... moreis 5.5 cm(2.2" tall. Is 28 cm(11" long to the end of the handle, and is about 17.5 cm(6.9" in diameter. It is clearly marked"PRIMROSE PLATE" E.P. COPPER" and"B.M MOUNTS" The E.P. Copper indicates that this was Silverplated over Copper. The Silent Butler bowl has a smooth finish. Done without imprints or etches. The top edge of the Bowl has a braid pattern all the way around. The hinged Lid is ornate, with a detailed scroll, leaf and plaid pattern. The hinge is in very good working order, with a tiny bit of play. The thumb perch(used to open the lid) is shaped akin to long-grass blades and is firmly attached. The item's handle is made of finished wood. And is firmly attached. Excellent Condition.no dents or major evidence of silverplate wear. There are a few light scratches on the bottom surface of the bowl. And a small incidence of plate wear on one inside wall. This item is actually in such good condition, one has to wonder if it was used very much at all. A fabulous piece. This listing is for a lovely Antique Silver plate Silent Butler. Crumb Catcher, Tidy. Common in the time of 1850-1899. It is Embossed with a 1” Crest being supported by a stag on the left. Giraffe head over the crest and a Unicorn supporting the crest on the right. Engraved below the crest and animals is"MAJOR AB ADVERSIS" that means"greater through Adversity. This is a very unique piece and has lovely ornate claw thumb pull opener to raise the lid. Hinge works fine. The exterior is in fair to good condition, tarnished look. And vintage, with patina and scratches. The interior b ase and interior cover are in very good condition. Very clean, appears to have been light use only. Outside is much rougher. I see one ding on the exterior top above the crest. Turned wooden handle 4 1/2" long, the silver plated b ox is 7 1/2" ... morex 5 1/2" x 1 3/4” Eng raved with Rogers on bottom(trademark) with a crown) the number 18 on one side of the crown and the number 83 on the other side of the crown. Under that is says Rogers Silver Co. under that it says silver plated, and under that it has the heavily stamped number 86. Trademark is extremely worn on bottom. And you will agree with me that items made with silver are a good investment regardless of the value of paper money. There is no room for a argument regarding this financial issue. Now. I have taken several pictures for you to see the many details in this piece. This is a great antique piece. Has not been cleaned or polished. The silent butler is an interesting leftover from the life of nobles- it was used by mansion butlers, servants, or staff to brush crumbs from the table, ashes from smoking, and tidy ups, thus the handle and the rear opening lid. This auction is for a vintage Silverplate Silent butler with a lion insignia on the top. It could use a good polishing. It is in really good condition. It has a wooden handle and measures 7 1/2" x 5 1/2" x1 1/2" tall. Plus the 4 1/4" long handle. It does have initials on the bottom, they look like JUS. not sure) It does say silver-plate under the initials. So I am not sure who made this piece.

Fresh from an upstate New York estate! This offering is for a most handsome"Silent Butler" circa 1940's. These versatile silent butlers were used for clearing unwanted crumbs at the end of an elegant dinner to ready the table for the dessert. Coffee or after dinner drinks. Ah, those were the days of elegance! You can re-live that bit of elegance or use this hinged lid silverplate"butler" as many do- for serving nuts or mints, guest soaps or pot pourri in a bathroom or for an ashtray to keep the smoking ashes from cigarettes, pipes or cigars from wafting their odor into the room. The butler has an elegant round form with lightly convexed sides and is mounted on three elegant"Queen Anne" shaped feet. The flat hinged lid features a knight in armor profile with shield with scrollwork(Coat of Arms) very Art Deco! ... moreThe wood handle has a very dark, almost ebony finish. From the shape of this butler, if it were used, it was used very little. There are no stains or burn marks and the only sign of use is some fine polish marks and some minor scattered very fine scratches on the underside. Truly it has a mirror finish making it hard to photograph due to the reflections. Lid fits nicely and hinge works fluidly. The underside is engraved"Oneida Silversmiths. These pieces are not part of any set. Crumb Tray measures 10 1/2" long and is 7" at the widest. Unrelated curved brush is 11 1/2" long. Brush has a thin wood base with a thin metal layer. Brass or copper color wash, but I can't tell which. condition: Silent Butler tarnished. Scratched, hinge a little wobbly, wear to handle.
