Sheffield silver plate spoon warmer Benetfink & Co Aesthetic Movement engraved
Fine Sheffield silver plate spoon warmer marked Benetfink& Co. Aesthetic Movement design in the form of a nautilus shell poised on rocks; engraved with band of coral around top rim. Cattails and arrow arum(a water plant with arrowhead-shaped leaves) on the body and lid. Hinged lid. About 5¾” tall; about 7” front to back. Plate in fine condition. No significant dents or scratching, only very gentle normal use. Just the tiniest separation in the soldered join in on very front edge of lift tab on lid(mentioned for strict accuracy, not visible unless you look up under the tab) Also selling a second fine spoon warmer from the same estate by Elkington with year date of 1903 in a separate listing.

There is one large dent on the side, seen in our first photo, and a few other tiny dimple size dents. The foot seems slightly bent when viewed from the bottom, but I don't notice it when it is in the upright position. The warmer has some plate wear, but overall has retained a great shine. Measures at: 6.5" w x 5.5" h x 3.5" d The base is screwed on. Has a design on the lid but there are no markings anywhere to determine who it is from. Does have the number 590 engraved. It is very heavy. Needs to be cleaned/ polished( I will leave that for the buyer) The condition of the item is very good except for the silver loss on all of the body. There are no visible dents. Base has a crack but no visible deep scratches. The lid opens and closes without a problem. The structure is very good condition and worth cleaning. This is a fabulous rare antique Victorian silver plated spoon warmer modelled as an egg on a rocky sea bed base with seaweed fronds at each end of the egg. The quality of craftsmanship and detail is excellent. It was made by Thomas Wilkinson. Birmingham, circa 1870. Condition is very good. It has been cleaned and has a wonderful shine. A1, a symbol(looks a bit like an anchor with some side bits with a small crown above) inside a shield and has the number 865 on it. It also say it is it is Warranted Hard Soldered, with a 3-leaf clover inside a square with rounded edges. I belive it was nade by Richard Richardson who worked in Sheffield and actually established the business in 1796. I believe this item is c1870. It was fashionable at that time to have one of these. The spoon-warmer is in very good to excellent condition. I have not polished or washed it. This is how it arrived. I do see any wear to the silverplate. The only issue is a dent at the back top. Which you can see in the second last photo best. It is not a big issue at all. Please look at the photos(which form part of the description) and ask any questions if you have any concerns. apps.

The piece is in good estate condition with SOME visible areas of wear on the plate- some light scratches to the exterior surface. The base is marked with the Atkins Brothers Sheffield hallmarks. This antique spoon warmer is in the shape of a snail. With a hinged lid where the spoon would sit. The base is simulated rocks with an applied shell decoration to the rear. It measures approx. 6 inches wide and 6 inches tall. It weighs almost 2 pounds. This piece is unmarked, except for numbers engraved by a previous owner possibly for ID in the event it was stolen. It is in excellent shape with one small spot of minor wear to the plate(see photo) A unique item to add to your collection. Standing on a cast rock base this Victorian silver plated spoon warmer is in the form of a nautilus shell. With a shell thumb piece for carrying. It is 5.5" 14cm) high, 6.5" 16cm) long and 3.5" 9cm) wide these are getting hard to find and a replate will leave you a valuable and highly desirable piece. Low start and no reserve. VICTORIAN SHEFFIELD SILVER PLATED NAUTILUS SPOON WARMER C. DRESSER click on images to enlarge We can only assume that this large and superbly fashioned Sheffield silver plated Victorian nautilus spoon warmer was designed by the famous Christopher Dresser and made by the equally renowned silversmiths Atkin Brothers. The‘C.D’ at the end of the makers marks does rather imply this and it is known that Dresser designs were sometimes marked with just his initials. We have not come across them on an Atkins piece before. And certainly Atkins marks do not usually have such initials at the end of the stamp(please see image) The piece is raised on a good heavy decorative foot depicting a rocky outcrop complete with the odd shell. To the upper is a hinged lid to allow filling. It is definitely of the persuasion of the Aesthetic movement with in which ... moreDresser was decidedly involved. Although there have been many designs of a similar persuasion since. Today he is usually associated with his rather more outlandish, rather stark and geometrical concepts especially in recent times especially with many being the inspiration for contemporary Alessi pieces. However it is true to say that looking at his fabric designs he had a definite passion for inspiration from the natural world. It is in reasonable condition for its age but there is some usewear to the silver cover. This is apparent to the linear decoration to the body and some to the hinge to the upper. The rocky outcrop is also rubbed but very effectively so adding rather than detracting to the aesthetics of the piece. There is a slight deviation to one corner of the lid and two fairly large dimples to the body. As can be discerned in the images. These could most probably be pushed out successfully as there are no splits or deep creases. There is the usual and expected evidence of the piece having contained the essential hot water to the inner. Despite the above the piece still looks super on display and is still fit for purpose. This very rare Victorian silver plated spoon warmer is in the form of a marine Buoy on a seaweed and shell covered rocky base. It is stamped with a design registration mark for 24 th November 1868 and measures 19.1cm or 7.5 inches long. It is in great condition with just minor distortion of the end ring to the buoy. Some minor loss to the plating and is offered with no reserve.

The smooth shell-form sits on a rock-like formation base with textured and smooth facets. A tab handle shaped like a clam shell is on the back of the base. The hinged lid has a bracket shaped edge and opening. The spooner has a two-piece construction and would unbolt. This is a really good feature and not all that common. Antique Victorian Silver Plate Nautilus Shell Spoon Warmer By Mappin Brothers
Here we have a mid 19th century silver plated Spoon Warmer by Mappin Brothers. Mappin Brothers were formed in 1849 and didn't become Mappin& Webb until 1868. This is a rare piece to have it before Mappin& Webb were formed. The silver plate is worn in places from use and age as seen in photo's. Total height 13 cm. Length 15 cm, width 8.5 cm.

Up for Auction today we have a Circa 1880 Victorian Scottish Britannia metal spoon warmer with removable brass screw cap& handle resting on a stylized rock base. Measures 29cm x 14 cm or 9 1/2" long x 5 1/4" tall This rare spoon rest is in very good damage free solid condition with minor surface wear to the spoon opening. A charming Victorian spoon warmer in the shape of a nautilus shell. English silver plate at its most inspired. Hinged moustache edged lid. Rare Antique English Spoon Warmer - Marine Buoy - Registration Mark For 1868
A rare example of a Victorian silver plated spoon warmer modelled as a conical buoy resting on a rocky shell and seaweed base. Fitted with a suspension loop and fixed with a chain. This example is lucky enough to have a design registration diamond mark, allowing us to date the registration of the piece to 24th November 1868. The underside has a full mark for the well renowned and highly collectible silversmith, Atkin Brothers of Sheffield. This one has it all, in superb undamaged condition. 7 1/2" in length. This is a wonderful ANTIQUE VICTORIAN SPOON WARMER Beautifully crafted by MAPPIN& WEBB in the ever desirable and popular NAUTILUS shape Hopefully backstamp and be seen in picture: MAPPIN& WEBB'S PRINCE'S PLATE RD. 71553 W8213 This is stamped onto the cross member of the detachable base and there is a substantial shell shaped handle to prevent burning fingers when filled with the hot water There is a small dent to the front and a larger"thumb print shaped" dent on the curved back. Approx. six inches across and 5inches high Unpacked weight is a hefty 643 gramms There is some rubbing to the silver but it still has a very shiney appearance and best of all it is densely engraved with a seagrass pattern One was sold in 2006 in an American Auction.
