This is a very good quality.Large silver plated toast rack dating from the Edwardian period. The toast rack is heavy quality and has a lovely loop handle and little ball feet.It holds six slices of toast.So very suitable for a guest house or large family.The silver plated finish is in excellent condition with no wear but as this has been in a cupboard for many yers and was completely black it has only had a quick clean and still shows signs of the black tarnish.The rack is stamped EPNS and measures 14.5 cms high x 15 cms long x 7.5 cms wide. A great looking vintage toast rack that would be as useful today as it ever was.

SILVER PLATED BREAKFAST SET Vintage/antique EPNS combined egg cup/toast rack; age unknown; inherited from a family member. And thought to have been acquired in around the 1930s, not necessarily new; markings to the base are described below. The item has a flat base with four bun feet; the edges are bent downwards to give the appearance of depth(0.8cm) Fixed to the upper surface are a small cup to one side and a small spike to the other; in between is a structure made from bent cylindrical wire rods to form two vertical slots for slices of bread/toast. A circular handle to the top, and two hooks, probably to accommodate a spoon(not present) The spike secures a separate egg cup, which has a hollow stem. Height(max) approx 13.2cm; length of base(max. Including feet) approx 16cm; width of base(max, including feet) approx 8.1cm The base is stamped ... morewith the letters EPNS in separate squares; the number‘3869’ and a row of five symbols in separate squares/lozenges. A reference number has been scratched nearby: F169 XN/S. There is also a scratched-out scratched reference that is indistinct but appears to resemble‘S/NX o-C/5’ The number‘3869’ also seems to be found on the EPNS components of some ceramic Wedgwood pieces. Such as lids. The row of five symbols has lost some detail due to polishing, but appears to comprise a fleur-de-lys, a gondola, a gothic letter‘D’ an ampersand, and another gothic letter. Research suggests that this combination represents the maker Deykin& Harrison, established in 1907 at the Venetian Works, Jennens Row, Birmingham(according to the silvercollection.it website) In that case, the fifth character would be a gothic‘S’ which is plausible given what remains(please see photo) The egg cup has no markings. The small attached cup and the egg cup have wavy/beaded upper edges and decoration to the base. And in the case of the egg cup, to the stem also. There are no makers marks on this piece and it is stamped'EPNS' on underside of tray. The tray has a hammered finish and the rack itself can be removed for easy cleaning. In excellent condition with a few small dark spots and light scratches in places consistent with some age- see photos. This is a silver plated toast rack made from EPNS(electroplated nickel silver) by Barnett Henry Abrahams. Ring handle. Raised on bun feet, space for four toasts and a supporting dish for crumbs. Condition Loss of silvering and pitting in the middle- please see all the photos Measurements Weight- 180 g 10 x 10 x 10 cm I'm selling a lot of silver and silver plated items at the moment.
