English fox hunting scenes ... moreare depicted in a very detailed manner. With lots of movement– as the chase is on! Long, thin, rectangular shape- with a slightly unexpected tall height. The tin has a hinged lid and once contained biscuits from Scribbans Kemp. It dates to circa 1954. There is generalized patina on the tin for an antique look. The vintage wear and patina includes some small areas of wear. Some small scratches and scuffs, some handling marks and soiling, some small dents and dings, etc. Lid is a little more muted than base and has some noticeable soiling. Noticeable denting on front side and one end of base. Some sticky sticker residue on front side. A few more noticeable scratches here and there. Still fairly small. Much of inside is covered with dark patina. There is rust inside- around the interior crevice. And around the upper edges and around the lid, including at the hinge areas. Several reverse dings and some other normal wear on bottom. Hinges seem attached well enough and they move freely until they hit a kink when the lid is almost closed. So there is some wonkiness to the open/close situation. And a little coaxing is required. Again. Condition issues of note: NOTICEABLE DENTING ON FRONT SIDE OF BASE AND ON ONE END. Lid is more muted and has noticeable soiling. A few more noticeable small scratches here and there. Some sticky sticker residue on front side. Some rust inside– at crevice. Upper edges, around inside lid edge, at hinge area, etc. Some wonkiness to the hinges. Open/close requires some coaxing. Approximate size of tin is about 11.25” by 3.5” by about 4” tall. One of the most elegant I have had in some time and one of my very favourites. This top quality example is made in three pieces. A silver plated base and fluted lid and a cut crystal cylindrical box with silver plated collar. The base is stunning standing on four original bun feet and the mark for the top notch silversmith, Walker& Hall. The crystal is cut into graduated sections and alternate panels finely cut further creating a spectacular design. In wonderful condition. Gorgeous Aesthetic style Sheffield 19 th c. silver plate Biscuit Barrel This wonderful silverplated biscuit barrel is signed and was made by Charles Ellis& Company. A Sheffield firm that opened in 1892 and closed in 1900. It measures approx. 9” tall to the top of the knob and 8” wide at the attached bottom plate. It weighs 2-1/2 pounds. It is lavishly decorated with a fern motif on the body of the barrel. The attached bottom plate, and the lid. It is a dazzling piece. The decoration is very much of the Aesthetic Movement. Condition: Very good. The silver plating looks bright and there is very light wear to the silver. It would benefit from a good polishing. The biscuit barrel uniquely appeared in England around 1860 and remained fashionable until the late 1930’s. They were made out of a variety of materials- silver. RARE 1892-1925 Van Bergh Quadruple Silver Plate/Milk Glass Biscuit Jar #3105
We have acquired this beautiful Victorian milk glass biscuit jar with a satin finish. It has a pastel green and yellow blend and features hand painted burgundy and purple lilacs. Greenery, and enamel accents. It has a quadruple plate lid with ornate finial, swing handle, and hinges. The inside of the lid is stamped Quadruple Plate, Van Bergh Silver Plate Co Rochester NY, 3105. It measures 8 1/2" high to the top of the finial x 6" across at the widest point. With some research, I have been able to surmise that this piece was made 1892-1925. It is in excellent condition with no paint wear, no cracks, no chips or crazing. There is tarnish to the lid and handle, and a couple of hard to notice straw marks or scratches on the glass, but difficult to see. This is a GORGEOUS and Rare Antique! For auction is this English silver plate biscuit barrel the barrel has a Patent lozenge mark on the base if I am reading it correctly the item was patented November 25 1870. Piece stands 3 ½ inches in height and 4 ¾ inches in diameter. The exterior has lost a lot of the silver plating but the detail of the etching is still very sharp small crack in the lip 1/8 of an inch in length. On Aug-17-14 at 06:35:56 PDT. The frame has an engraved lid with an openwork swag& tassel body supported on three embossed lion head& paw feet– the open sides let the large blue glass liner show through for a dramatic effect. It’s unmarked but we think possibly French( and measures approximately 8-1/2” high(to the tip of the finial) x 5-5/8” in diameter(excluding the lion paw feet) The liner measures 4-5/8” high x 5” in diameter. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, breaks, touch-ups or repairs to the silverplate or to the cobalt insert and no discernible wear to the silverplate. Birmingham)Ltd. The Biscuit Box is engraved with scrollwork and flowers front and back with a vacant cartouche where a monogram may be added. The hinge works smoothly and the lid closes well; the interior looks clean. Light scratches on the rim of lid from use. Good condition. No dents. I see one scratch on the saucer and light scratches throughout, perhaps from cleaning in the past. A number 5 is stamped on the inside of the lid near the hinge. I don't know what this means. This exceptional article of workmanship is museum quality. In complete working order. It comes well marked with the W A Hallmarks. 411239. Each door and base underneath is marked 80. 81, 82. The gold washed interior is absolutely flawless and thickly lavished. There are no signs of repairs. It closes just fine and all three spring loaded door latch rings are in working order. There's no wear through to base metal on the any of the tri-fold body sections- no even close to it. In fact. Other than light(if any) wear simply from storage and age, this gem doesn't appear to have been ever used. It has been extremely well taken care of and exhibits no unexpected ... moredents or pings(zero) deep scratches, or mechanical damage. simply BREATH-TAKING! The best of the best.this Victorian bread warmer is in such nice condition that it looks new. And this warmer is heavy duty.most of these I see are light weight.this one has thick metal base. Handle, and warmer. thus no dents of bent parts. And the design is fabulous. Gryphons are guarding the base surrounded by wonderful Victorian swirls. The reticulated bun warmer also has a superior design. The only mark I find is the number 12 embossed on both sides of the warming plates. Made in England. Hand chasing involves the craftsperson using a small chisel and mallet to engrave the decoration, which consists of scrolls, flora etc. E.P.C. means that a copper base object was covered in silver. Then the hand chased decorating was done. Very nice design with no visible dings or dents. It does need polishing. Plating looks good but may have some light wear under Patina. Victorian Silver Plate Biscuit Jar, Att. Underplate, Claw Feet, Exquisite!
This is an exquisite antique silver plate biscuit jar. It was manufactured by Thomas Latham& Ernest Norton ca. 1866-1896 in Birmingham England. It has an etched design. Finial knob, attached under plate with three claw and ball legs. It is in very good condition with a good working hinged lid. There is slight silver wear on the lid, haven't tried to polish. Could be polished more if desired. It is about 7-1/4" to the top of the finial. The jar has a 5" diameter. Please feel free to e-mail questions prior to bidding. The flared foot and rim both have a raised border either side has an attractive handle. The underside is marked EPNS for Electro-Plated Nickel Silver. Vintage frosted cut glass engraved biscuit barrel/jar, jam pot, silver plate lid
Gorgeous biscuit barrel decorated with engraved frosted glass and topped with a silver plated lid and handle. The lid carries a'bow' mark and item number 6314. The frosted pattern has'Biscuits' at the front and delicate vine leaves and branches all around. Condition Some loss of silvering and scratches on the lid. Scuff marks on the barrel and some grime in the engraved glass pattern- please see all photos. Antique Silver Plate& Clear Glass Relief Decorated Novelty Biscuit Barrel or Storage Jar circa 1910 This Antique Storage Jar or Biscuit Barrel measures approximately 3 1/4 inches or 83 mm across the width or diameter of its central body from side to side. It stands 4 inches or 102 mm tall to the top of its upper rim and it stands 6 1/4 inches or 159 mm tall to the top of its handle when its up. The Biscuit Barrel or Storage Jar is made from a clear glass body that has been raised relief decorated to give it a coopered barrel like decoration and it stands on a raised circular foot rim. The top of the barrel's glass body has been mounted with a silver plated upper rim that has two raised brackets with a swing handle and it has a flat circular lid that has been engrave decorated to also give it a coopered barrel like definition to match ... morethe glass body, the lid has a delightfully shaped finial or handle and the biscuit barrel or storage jar has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram, I estimate that this novelty shape biscuit barrel or storage jar was made circa 1900 to 1920. The condition is used and Mint for its age. The biscuit barrel or storage jar has No Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, the barrel is stands straight, the decoration and definition is very crisp, the silver is still a really good colour with no wear, the lid is a perfect fit that opens and closes with ease, the swing handle is also working although as this novelty shape biscuit barrel or storage jar is a used antique it does have some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this antique novelty shape biscuit barrel or storage jar can still be used today and that it would make a superb addition to any cabinet collection, I also think that it looks absolutely fantastic considering that it's around 100 or so years old.
