An absolute winner. This antique desk or dinner bell dates to around 1898 and English in origin. The bell or gong is created in the form of a large mushroom or toadstool with two smaller ones underneath. The gong mallet that hangs from the twig holder is used to strike the large mushroom producing a shiny authoritative ring. The mushroom is marked EPNS for Electro-Plated Nickel Silver together with the makers mark F W over S. The maker is Frederick Wilson. The heavy base is cast with woodland style plants and rocks; on one of the edges the British design registration number is struck. 31340 dating this piece to 1898. One or the"rocks" to the front is smooth and acts as cartouche, which could be engraved if desired. The tree at the side is well cast with foliate detail and charming wise Owl perched on the top. very minor other wear ... moreto the plating at the top of the large muchroom and owl's ear is missing at one side. really super all-round condition. A charming figural open salt made from Silver plate and glass. In the form of a rowing boat. The stand has two integral oars that cross creating the handle. This unusual piece is lucky enough to have retained it's original molded glass liner and in undamaged condition. The stand of the frame has a mark for the silversmith, William Briggs and Company of Sheffield. Dating to the late Victorian era, around 1900, it remains in excellent condition, measuring 5" long x 2" wide x 4 1/2" tall. A really fabulous late Victorian figural cruet or condiment set dating to around 1900. Reflecting the automobiles of this era. The frame is shaped like a car with the wheels actually moving, this would have been"wheeled" along the table. Made from silver plate, the side of the frame is marked EPNS for Electro Plated Nickel Silver. All four pieces of glass are in excellent condition, each with silver plated fittings; two bottles for vinegar and oil, a mustard pot(no spoon) and a pepperette. salt was usually served in open table salts. For the equestrian collector or horse racing devotee. This figural cruet set is quite the charmer. The base is a horseshoe shape with a spur terminal on the handle. At the front is an upturned Jockey's cap as an open salt with a gilded interior. The mustard and pepper are in the form of riding boots, the mustard pot complete a spoon with riding crop handle. The riding boots are removable from the stand. What makes this more desirable than others I have had is the central piece between the boots with a Jockey cap lid. Unusual Antique Novelty English Table Lighter In Silver Plate c.1890
A most unusual and highly collectible table lighter in silver plate. The central light is in the form of a castle turret and either side. What appear to be Lighthouses. The central light would have been filled with fuel and the wick lit. The two"Lighthouses" have a lid that removes each a long"torch" the ends would be wrapped in a fuel soaked smaller pick and lit from the central flame. Rare Antique English Novelty Cruet Set - Miniature Tea Set on Tray
A magnificent novelty cruet set. About as charming as they come in the form of a tea set and tray. Each piece is beautifully engraved; the tallest of the pots is the pepperette, the shorter pot, the mustard pot; the sugar the open salt and finally the water or milk jug for oil. The mark on the underside is J.B& Co. with a crown, a silversmith I am not familiar with. The tray is beautifully made standing on four ball and claw feet and the handles beautifully shaped. Rare Antique English Novelty Cruet Set - Violin / Musical - 1894
This is a piece I have never seen before. And I doubt very much will come across again. This Victorian novelty cruet set is made from silver plate with a makers mark on the underside for William Padley(Formerly Padley, Parkin& Staniforth) of Sheffield. This piece is also lucky enough to have an English design registration number, 228149, for the year 1894. The violin has an open salt(gilded to protect the silver) a pepper pot and mustard pot. The glass jars carry on the musical theme, one engraved with the Wedding March and the other with Auld Lang Syne, both the lids are engraved with crossed violin bows. all quite outstanding and unusual. The two spoons, one for the salt and one for the mustard have terminals featuring the Bass Cleff and Treble Clef.
