An Exceptional Novelty Silver Plated Toast Rack designed in connection with the celebration of the Zulu Wars 1879 Africa. Fantastic quality and marked in numerous places with a registration diamond indicating a date of 1879. Modelled with bamboo spears and Zulu shields with a rush basket weave base shaped like a canoe. Decorated around the border with vine leaves. Fantastic quality and very rare- I cannot find another similar example. Must be by a leading maker- Elkington or similar- such is the exceptional quality. In excellent condition. No wear. Approx 9.5" long and 7" high. VICTORIAN DIXON NOVELTY NATURALISTIC OAK LEAF CHAMBERSTICK SILVER PLATE ANTIQUE
T his novelty silver plated chamberstick measures 150mm(6' x 110mm(4.5' x 60mm(2.5' high and weighs 295 grams. It is marked to the underside for the quality silversmith James Dixon& Sons EPBM with the design number 409 and dates to the late 1800's early 1900's. It has a well detailed oak leaf naturalistic design with a fixed sconce and branch handle and is in good condition with fine detail to the leaves and retains its original silver plate and as usual is missing its snuffer. A fabulous Victorian novelty travelling cigar caddy or trolley. Made to travel down the dinner table for an after dinner cigar. A wonderful talking point, this three wheeled caddy would hold eight cigars, and has a central removable ashtray. The front is created to hold a lit candle to then light the cigars off of; the back has an integral matchbox holder; fabulous to have the original dated initials of the original owner, J.J. 1892. Rare Antique English Novelty Cruet Set - Butlers Tray In Oak & Silver Plate
A fabulous and wonderful find. Which came to us in a black condition, our silversmith has worked wonders to professionally clean to create a magnificent example. The cruet is in the form of a Butler's Tray, made from solid English Oak and silver plated mounts and stand. The stand is marked by the silversmith, which is for Henry Bourne& Daniel J. O'Neill of Birmingham, only operated between 1881-1886, so easy to date. The inserts are cut glass and silver plate, the mustard and pepper with pagoda shaped tops. Antique Novelty Silver Plate Pheasant or Game Bird Dining Table Place Name or Menu Holders circ 1910 Each Antique Dining Table Place Name Card or Menu Holder measures approximately 3 3/4 inches or 96 mm across its length from the end of the birds tail to the front of the base by 7/8 of an inch or 22 mm across the widest part of its body from side to side and it stands 2 1/4 inches or 57 mm tall to the top of the birds head. Both dining table place name card or menu holders are made from a base metal that has been silver plated and each one is in the form of a Pheasant or game bird that has a slot in its back so that a place name card or table menu can be held. Each holder has been delightfully raised relief and engrave decorated to give the bird and base its definition and they both stand on raised relief decorated elongated oval shaped bases, ... morethe dining table place name card or menu holders have Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below and I estimate that they were made in England circa 1900- 1920. The condition is used and Excellent for their age. The Place Name Card or Menu Holders have with No Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, the holders stand straight, the decoration and definition is crisp, the holders are still working perfectly, the silver plating is still a good colour with only minor wear although as the name card or menu holders are used antiques they do have some extremely some minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this pair of antique dining table place name card or menu holders can still be used today also as desk top business card holders and that they would make a superb addition to any cabinet collection, I also think that they look fantastic considering that they're around 100 or so years old. Unusual Antique Novelty English Table Lighter In Silver Plate c.1890
A most unusual and highly collectible table lighter in silver plate. The central light is in the form of a castle turret and either side. What appear to be Lighthouses. The central light would have been filled with fuel and the wick lit. The two"Lighthouses" have a lid that removes each a long"torch" the ends would be wrapped in a fuel soaked smaller pick and lit from the central flame. The underside has a full mark with the makers initials TL over EM for the silversmith, Thomas Latham& Ernest Morton. Antique Silver Plate& Clear Glass Relief Decorated Novelty Biscuit Barrel or Storage Jar circa 1910 This Antique Storage Jar or Biscuit Barrel measures approximately 3 1/4 inches or 83 mm across the width or diameter of its central body from side to side. It stands 4 inches or 102 mm tall to the top of its upper rim and it stands 6 1/4 inches or 159 mm tall to the top of its handle when its up. The Biscuit Barrel or Storage Jar is made from a clear glass body that has been raised relief decorated to give it a coopered barrel like decoration and it stands on a raised circular foot rim. The top of the barrel's glass body has been mounted with a silver plated upper rim that has two raised brackets with a swing handle and it has a flat circular lid that has been engrave decorated to also give it a coopered barrel like definition to match ... morethe glass body, the lid has a delightfully shaped finial or handle and the biscuit barrel or storage jar has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram, I estimate that this novelty shape biscuit barrel or storage jar was made circa 1900 to 1920. The condition is used and Mint for its age. The biscuit barrel or storage jar has No Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, the barrel is stands straight, the decoration and definition is very crisp, the silver is still a really good colour with no wear, the lid is a perfect fit that opens and closes with ease, the swing handle is also working although as this novelty shape biscuit barrel or storage jar is a used antique it does have some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this antique novelty shape biscuit barrel or storage jar can still be used today and that it would make a superb addition to any cabinet collection, I also think that it looks absolutely fantastic considering that it's around 100 or so years old.
