1880s Victorian Silver Plate Silent Butler Crumb Tray by F B Rogers Silver Co
I am selling this wonderful 1880s Victorian Silver plated. Silent butler or lidded crumb tray, with turned wooden handle. It was made by F. B. Rogers Silver Co. who were a silversmithing company founded in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts in 1883. The company was acquired by Edmund W. Porter and L.B. West, who incorporated the company and moved manufacturing operations to Taunton, Massachusetts in 1886. For several years, the company became known as West Silver Company, and was producing silver products for the William Rogers Manufacturing Company of Hartford, Connecticut. In about 1904, West and Porter retired and sold the company to William Davison, Carleton A. Woodward and H.E. Nearing, who changed the company's name back to F.B. Rogers. It measures 8 inches by 6 inches. And the handle length is 5 inches. The condition is very good with ... morelight surface scratches and some tarnishing. Overall it is in fine fettle for the age. Vintage Crumb Tray Silent Butler marked"Forbes Silver Co USA Quadruple 925" With an eagle head mark in a circle. Please see the photos. The 925 mark seems to indicate sterling silver, but the hallmark seems to indicate silver plate. Acid testing indicated.925 silver. The tray is from an estate sale and is vintage, measuring 8 1/2" wide x 6 1/4" and is in good overall condition, minor scratches from normal use, slightly bent on the front edge and right edge, with some tarnishing, and weighs 206g.

EPC 3810 Poole Silver Co silent butler crumb catcher etched lion vtg movie prop
Vintage/antique oval shaped silver plated silent butler from Poole Silver Co in Taunton. Massachusetts. On the underside of the hinge it is stamped EPC 3810(pix 7) and other side of hinge has Poole Silver Co Taunton, Mass(pix 8) Nice scrolled thumb pull to open and close. Top has a crested lion etched into the metal and decorative rim all along the top. Sides are grooved(see pix 5& 6) so it actually has 4 of these decorative grooves. Handle is wood and has come away from the fixture but an easy fix; I will let the new owner decide if to clean or not as it can take quite some time to get the age on something of this nature& I hate to clean& deter from the value. Piece is approx 8" wide& 10" from end handle to opening side of butler and depth is 1 1/2" not including the height on the thumb pull. I am not sure ... moreof the age; I do know these were used to empty ashtrays into at the end of the evening to ensure no fire started in trash due to hot ashes-I remember my Grandmother using these when we would visit and all the adults sat in the florida room smoking. Great vintage condition with only some tarnish and some peeling on the electroplated area that has the crested lion. Inside looks pretty good; only a couple small pit marks. Will let new owner decide whether to clean or not; would make good movie/theatrical prop for era related prop. OLD SHEFFIELD SILVER CO SILENT BUTLER CRUMB TRAY 268 UNICORN DESIGN
I am offering the Antique Sheffield Silver Co. EPC) Silent Butler's Crumb Tray. It is number 268. And made in the USA. It has 4 claw feet and stands about 2" tall x 7 1/4" oval shaped x 5 1/2" wide. The lid is hinged, and it has a thumb finial for easy flipping. The lid also has an embossed unicorn pictured at the center. The interior is 1" deep and measures 7" x 5" It has a spindled design wooden handle. It is in relatively good condition for its age. With perhaps a bit of polishing needed, and some sprucing up on the handle, a bit of old English will do the trick. There are no dings or dents. And certainly presents itself nicely.
