Vintage Crescent Antique Silent Butler Silver Copper Shell With Glass Insert This Auction is for a Vintage Crescent Silverplated Over Copper Silent Butler with glass dish insert and wooden handle. It's in very good condition for its age but does need to be polished. There is a hallmark stamped on the bottom as shown but no model number. I'm not sure of the age but in trying to research it seems to be from around the early to mid 1900's. The only place that I've noticed the copper showing through the silver is on the short side shown in top middle picture. The glass dish insert is damage free and clean. Welcome! Up for auction is a Silent Butler that is marked EPC which means electroplated on copper. Also on the bottom are 3 hallmarks. One shows the profile of a man with a beard. The second is a crown. And the third is an S that makes me think this might be Sheffield. It is in good condition, but the inside needs polishing. I am not sure if the brush came with it, but this was my grandmother's, and she was a real Victorian entertainer, and she always used them together. The butler is approximately 7 1/2" square. This particular one is OVAL- WHICH IS NOT COMMON- SILVER PLATE over COPPER. It measures 6 3/4" x 5 1/4" and is 1 1/4" deep. It has a beautiful braided trim around the outside and COPPER ACCENTS ON THE HORSE. There is some pitting on the inside bottom. But it is not too deep. The handle unscrews for easier cleaning. Vintage F. B. Rogers Silver Plated on Copper, Silent Butler w/ Wooden Handle
This piece was made by the F. B. Rogers Silver Co. It is marked Silver on Copper. It has the number'88' on the bottom. I don't know what this refers to. Probably a pattern number. There is also a large Lion Mark on the top. I couldn't find any information on that. The F. B. Rogers Silver Co. was founded in 1883. It absorbed West Silver Co. in 1896 and became a division of National Silver Company in 1955. I believe this piece was made in the early to mid 1900s. It is called a silent butler. It would have used to collect dust, ashes and crumbs. It was given that name in the 1940s so I believe to be from around or before that time. The cover is hinged and can be lifted by your thumb while holding it by the handle. The covered section is 8 1/4" x 6" The handle is made from a nice dark wood and it measures about 5" ... morelong. It has tarnished to a very nice patina and the bottom has some scratches both of which come with age and use.

Academy Silver on Copper"silent butler" crumb tray/ ash tray. Measures approximately 7-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches. With a 4-3/4 inch black handle. Engraved with 2 lions on the top and has a raised design to open the lid. The lid does not close completely. The interior shows definite signs of use. The exterior has small scratches and discolorations from use. Overall very good condition. Weighs almost one pound.
