This is a somewhat rare antique quadruple silverplate Victorian age figural toothpick and/or matchstick holder from the 1800's. It is in pretty good condition. As you can see from the photo's. The top of the cup is out of round and it could use a professional cleaning. I personally would display it just the way it is. Other than that, it looks good. It is made by the Derby Silver Company. It has their logo on the bottom along with the number 2302. The cup is 2 1/8" tall and approximately 2" in diameter at the top. The figural lady is 3 3/8" tall. This is a lovely Victorain figural toothpick holder. Features a large dog with glass eyes sitting alongside a toothpick holder with a scalloped edge and indentations around the sides. The piece is in great condition. Most of the silverplate is intact. There are no missing or broken bits and no repairs. The piece is somewhat tarnished with a lovely shiny patina. I didn't try cleaning it as I would like to leave that option to the buyer. Measures approx. 2 1/4" tall and 3 1/4" The bottom is marked Derby Silver Co. 2306. This week we have this gorgeous. Figural, Antique holder. I believe this piece is a toothpick or stick pin holder although it could be used for matches or hatpins. I have used it to display stickpins and have loved it for years. The main holder is made of copper in the form of a wooden bucket with reinforced rings. There is a silver( crab on the side. The bottom is marked as shown in photos and I believe the date letter P is for 1883. The pattern/patent/production number 89. There is a letter or symbol in front that I cannot decipher. It may be an"r" The crab has some copper on surface so it may have only been silver plated. But I am quite sure they use to put sterling silver onto copper and vice versa in these mixed metal items. The crab is missing its frontmost right leg. See photos. Still presents well. If it wasn't for this it would have been said to be in excellent condition. This is a very rare lovely Victorain figural toothpick holder with a chinese man holding a heavy-looking bamboo pole with a box shaped toothpick holder hanging off the bamboo pole. The bottom is marked Aurora Silver S.P. Mfg. Co. and has the production/patent/patent number 327. I recently sold one of these that just had the number and not the maker's name. This one has the maker's name as well. Toothpick holders are not shown in the book by Gottschalk and Whitson's book" Figural napkin Rings: Collectors Identification and Value Guild" In plate 540 on page 220. They valued it at $350-500 in 1996, 18 years ago. A similar figural napkin ring to this toothpick holder is shown in Gottschalk and Whitson's book on page 280 plate 693 and a similar combination figural napkin ring salt and pepper set on page 156 plate 381. The napkin ring is not marked as to makerbut is numbered 67. Possibly attributed to Aurora Silver Co. probably because the comination set in the book is marked Aurora Silver Co. 5356. This is a lovely antique American figural toothpick holder c1880 which has a hunting dog next to the toothpick holder which is shaped like a bowl with a egg shaped end. The detail is excellent down to the fur/hair on teh dog and its eyes etc. It is not marked as to maker or number. It was made accordingly. Have seen this before. This figural toothpick holder is in excellent condition. I have not polished it. Just washed it in warm soapy water. It has a nice darkish patina and teh silverplate is in excellent condition. There are no issues with this. Just lovely. With a lined and tappered toothpick holder next to a fine lady. The detail on the lady is quite amazing. The lady also has a lovely patina. The toothpick holder is marked as made by Derby Silver Co. founded in CT in 1873) and is numbered#2302. It is c1870-1890. dimensions: approx. 8.5 cms x 5 cms x 8.5 cms high weight: approx 160 gms ~ 5 oz condition. This toothpick holder is in excellent condition. No repairs. No missing parts. No pitting. No cracks/splits. The lady has a lovely patina.see photos. Overall the silverplate looks pretty good but there may be a bit of plate loss on the holder itself. Around the bottom. I would say it will still polish/clean up to a brilliant shine, if you like them like that. Overall I would say the toothpick holder is in excellent condition.
