Up for sale is this beautiful Victorian quadruple plate Pickle Castor with cranberry jar and tongs. At the top it has an owl sitting on a branch with a circular decoration next to him. Ornate base and top. Good condition for its age but there is some plate loss on tongs and supporting rods. It is made by the Derby Silver C. mark is on the bottom. The cranberry jar is in good condition no chips. Might be a replacement. Smaller in diameter then the base. Lid fits perfect on it. The metal stand measures 11 1/2" tall. Here is a beautiful Cranberry enameled thumbprint Pickle Castor in a tall footed Silverplated frame marked Reed& Barton# 1230. The frame stands 11 1/2" tall and is in perfect condition with no loss to the silverplate. It is highly embossed and has a pickle fork hanging from the side of the frame. Up for auction is this absolutely beautiful Enameled Thumbprint Cranberry bulbous pickle castor in a Meriden silverplated frame# 175. The stand stands 8 1/2" tall and has a pair of tongs hanging on one side of the frame. The silverplate is in good condition. There is a tiny rough spot at the top edge of the frame. There is no loss to the silverplate.The cranberry insert is very heavy old glass with beautiful floral decorations and sprays around the perimeter of the jar. It stands 4 1/4" high and has gold highlighting at the top of the jar and inside the bulbous indentations. There is a flea bite at the top edge of the glass insert.

From a local Ohio estate, we are pleased to offer this lovely Victorian era pickle castor with a cranberry art glass insert. We are often amazed that these beautiful pieces were made just to serve condiments on the Victorian table. Most of us. Today, just take the pickle or relish jar out of the refrigerator and put it on the table! But. In the late 1800's, this would have been a delight for any hostess to showcase her fine dinner as it was passed around the table with it's tasty treat inside. The frame features an aesthetic design with a band of scrolling entwined flowers held off the tabletop on four ball-tipped spade feet. The leaf design on the feet is mirrored in the elements at the base of the ... morehoop handle and on both sides of the open work crest that winds above the top loop. Atop the jar is an ornate highly chased lid with an assortment of garden dwellers- including a plumed bird. A dragonfly, and a butterfly amid a sea of lush flower blossoms and foliage. Tongs with tiny hand pincers and bow finger rests hang from one side. The cranberry art glass insert has an inverted thumbprint design that plays with the light when empty and magnifies the jars contents when full in a most wonderful manner. Beautiful! Marked on the bottom with the Middlefield Plate Co. logo- Quadruple Plate. The words Hard White Metal and the number#96. Measures approximately 10-7/8" to the top with a 4-7/8" footprint. This set is in marvelous condition! No dents or damage to the frame and the silverplate has polished up nicely with an eye-pleasing antique patina in the recesses. Noting the silverplate may be a little worn(not quite as bright) on the pincers from the acidic nature of the pickles. This gorgeous cranberry glass pickle castor measures 9 1/2" in height and 7 1/2" at widest point. It comes with its original tongs. That measure 6 1/4" in length. I realize it needs a good cleaning and polishing, but I will leave this up to the buyer. As for condition. It is outstanding! The gold leaf at the top of the jar shows wear, but that is about it. Up for auction is a stunning cranberry thumbprint pickle castor in a beautiful fancy footed silver plated frame marked Pelton Bros. Quadruple Plate# 299. It stands 11 3/4" tall. The lid has an owl sitting at the top of the lid. The silver plate is in excellent condition. The Cranberry Thumbprint insert is 4 3/4" high. The insert is in very good condition with no chips. Cracks or flea bites. There are a pair of matching tongs that hang from the side of the frame. The insert fits perfectly in the frame. This is a beautiful addition to any pickle castor collection.

Antique Victorian Thumbprint Cranberry Pickle Castor hallmarked
Up for auction is this beautiful victorian pickle castor. The glass insert is thumbprint cranberry glass. The glass is perfect. No rough edges around the top. One air bubble inside the glass on the bottom.see pic. I have a victorian home and started to collect these for my curio cabinet in the dining room and the price tag was still inside the glass insert. This one has been re-silver plated at some time. As you can see the price was $350. There is a spider web hallmark with a"W" in the middle. And there are the numbers 82. I am not an expert on these victorian pickle castors, I bought some cause i liked them and they are different. This one has an interesting tong with hands on the end. I also like the top of the holder.see last pic. The silver plating is very good, just needs some polish. It has been sitting for years in my curio ... morecabinet. I have 3 I will be listing. This one measures 11 inches tall and the glass insert is almost 5 inches without the top, with the top 7 inches. Can't really find any faults with this. Its a beauty. The other 2 are amber glass. I was informed by another ebayer that is pickle castor was made by E.G. Up for auction with no reserve is an estate lot of 19th century Victorian Period silver plate and cranberry pickle casters. This lot includes 2 matching beautifully enameled cranberry glass with a matching floral hand painted designs. The frames are also quite nice but do show some wear as seen in photos. The jars are in excellent condition. With the exception of a small chip on the mouth of the small jar. Both jars have a lovely cranberry matte finish on the outside and shiny on the inside. The largest jar is 6" high x 6 wide" The smaller matching jar is 3 1/2" high x 3 3/4" wide.
