This fine silver plate piece features a round base with 4 cabriole feet in the Rococo style. It has oval medallions around the base with a scrolling acanthus leaf handle that raises above the base. The glass jar is acid etched and hand painted with a large landscape scene featuring a mother and child walking on a large estate. The painting is further enhanced with heavy applied gold enameling. The silver plate is made by William ... moreRogers Manufacturing Co. the bottom is marked"WM. Rogers Mfg. Co. and then reads"Rogers" with an anchor on each side. There are also the marks"Quadruple 448" The anchors date this piece to 1865-1867. The insert is a very pretty opalescent light blue satin glass with a diamond hatch mark design. Please see photos as I am doing a terrible job of describing the beauty of this piece. The glass is slightly bluer on top and more opal on the bottom. There is wear to the rim but no chips. Cracks, or other damage to the piece. The silver plate holder is very decorative with a floral design and a ruffled edge. The lid of the pickle jar has a brighter finish than the rest of the piece and I am unsure if it is the original lid. Please make your own determination. The decoration on the tongs has floral elements but also may not be original to the piece. The pickle castor measures about 10&1/2" tall and just over 6&1/2" at its widest and the glass insert measures about 4&1/4" tall and about 3&1/2" in diameter. I cannot find the pattern for this piece and I know this glass design is rare- this is over all a stunning and unusual piece and would be a perfect addition to any collection. Complete antique pickle castor set in very good overall condition. Jar is made of ruby glass with silverplate lid. Base is marked on underside with hallmarks and"Columbia Silver Co. Quadruple" Jar itself with lid measures 6.5" tll. Base to top of handle measures 9.5" Comes complete with tongs. Silverplate needs some polishing but I usually leave that up to the discretion of the buyer- some like to keep the original patina. Great piece for collectors! The FIGURAL FRAME was made to look like a cucumber“PICKLE” VINE. It wraps around the base and shoots into the air. It is covered with leaves resembling the leaves of the cucumber vine. Cradled in the large leaves at the base is the circular ring that hold the FIGURAL PICKLE BARREL JAR. The large leaves actually wrap around the jar to hold it in place. The naturalistic theme continues on the lid. Atop the lid embossed with flowers. Rests a large open-winged butterfly. This is one of the few PICKLE CASTORS that beautifully represents its purpose. Up for auction is this lovely Ca. 1800's Silver Plate Pickle Castor From The Meriden Co. Connecticut. Quite ornate with scrolling Flowers And wreath type handle on lid. The Claw Feet tongs are fantastic as well. The glass has a sunburst center and nicely etched 4 sides as well. Overall a real sweet piece. The castor measures 9 1/2" overall height and 7 1/2" to point of top finial. It is 3 7/8" wide& deep. It is marked Meriden B* Company 137 on the base. The entire piece is in excellent condition. No chips or cracks on the beautiful& ornate glass. The base. Lid and tongs are free of any cracks or repairs, the lid has a small indentation as seen in the first photo.

There is some very nice detail on this castor, on the base it rises up in front of the glass and shows nice detail of flowers and more on the lower part of the base it has a little bit of detail as well. The thongs are cool with detail that looks like birds feet. The glass jar is clear and in great shape. It has these amazing swirl designs. The jar lid is detailed as well, the jar lid just sits on top of the glass it does not go on tight, so you should be careful when you move it. The condition is what is expected for a piece this old. In one of William Heacock’s reference guides and he attributed the Herringbone pattern to Phoenix glass but I have not found that information to be concrete. There are not any chips. Nicks or repairs to the glass. The plated holder has had both side attachments repaired. They do need to be repaired again. Hartford Company Quad Silver Plate 739 PICKLE Castor Jar Complete w/Lid & Tongs
This 9 1/4" total PICKLE Castor is made by Hartford Silverplate Co. Quadplate 739. The silverplate is highly tarnished. The glass canister is 3 3/4" tall x approx. 3" in diameter across the top opening. There is a small surface chip in one of the diamond shape designs in the glass as shown in photo 4. The diamonds on the two side and again on the bottom add a nice accent to the lined jar. The lid fits well and tongs are included. Toronto Company Silver Plate 0101 Pickle Castor Glass Jar 11" Tall
This lovely. Vintage PICKLE CASTOR jar was made by Toronto Company. It is marked S.P. 0101. It is complete with a secure fitting lid. The glass canister measures 4 3/4" tall and approx. 3" in diameter across the top opening. The jar has a fluted design. Possibly because of the design. All the lower edges of the glass have rough edges due to minor chips that are visible when viewed up close. The total height of the highly tarnished piece is 11" The frosted glass canister has a bit of a rough edge on the bottom rim. The top inside of the glass. Ornate Victorian Quad. Silver Plate Pickle Castor Blue Glass/Crystal?
I have seen some of the other pickle castors that have sold for ridiculous money recently and in my opinion this would fall into a higher quality category. Both the lid and base have such beautiful detail. The blue of the glass or crystal(not sure) is a great color and has no chips or cracks. No damage to piece whatsoever. PAIR PICKLE CASTOR HOLDERS BASES SILVER PLATE VICTORIAN STYLE ENGLAND CASTER
Here are two Victorian style pickle castor bases that are looking for inserts at their new home. They are not marked. But I assume they are silver plate, however use the photos to decide as I am not 100% sure what they are made of or how old they are. One of them is marked made in England on the bottom& the other is not marked. They are not an exact identical pair, but match so well nobody would really notice. The fork holders are intact on both& they are in good shape w/ sturdy handles. All I note is the seam on one is slightly apart at the top as shown in photo, however it is still sturdy and this may just be a manufacturing flaw. A beautiful Victorian PICKLE CASTOR with an enamel decorated Cranberry glass jar/insert in a Quadruple Silver Plate Frame. The mark: GEO.LINSENMAYER* QUADRUPLE* PLATE* PHILA. an obscure maker I have never come across before. The Frame Measures: 10.75" tall on 4 reticulated feet. 4.75" on each side with a round 3.25" wide cut-out for the jar- floral engravings on 2 opposing corners- 5" wide embossed floral border around the entire piece between the base and the feet. The decor on the Insert- Hand Painted enamel Blue Berries and gold outlined green& yellow leaves along with more gold leaves and ferns in the background- is repeated 3 times around the squatty shaped cranberry glass jar. Antique Barbour Quadruple Silver Plate and Amber Glass Pickle Castor With Tongs
This is an elegant pickle castor with tongs that I have had since the 70's. The silver plated base is marked"Barbour Silver Co. quadruple. 2309" The base is adorned with a fine embossing. The header has stylistic flowers or leaves and a large flower at the top center. A leaf and bud design hold the tongs. There is very slight wear of the silver on the lid edge, which is topped by a decorated knob. There are no dents or scratches or dings in the silver base. The tongs are decorated with a flower and a bow and the claws at the end. They are only slightly tarnished. The amber glass is thick glass with"V"s of smooth glass at the top and inverted"V"s of smooth glass at the bottom. Between the"V"s are daisies and buttons. The glass has a couple small bubbles from the manufacturing process, but no chips ... moreor cracks. The total height is 10 3/4 inches tall and 4 inches diameter at the base. Up for sale is this beautiful Victorian quadruple plate Pickle Castor with cranberry jar and tongs. At the top it has an owl sitting on a branch with a circular decoration next to him. Ornate base and top. Good condition for its age but there is some plate loss on tongs and supporting rods. It is made by the Derby Silver C. mark is on the bottom. The cranberry jar is in good condition no chips. Might be a replacement. Smaller in diameter then the base. Lid fits perfect on it. The metal stand measures 11 1/2" tall. One piece is a pickle castor stand and features beautiful flowers. The opening of the pickle castor stand is about 3.5" wide on the inside of the rim. The stand is about 9.5" tall. It includes the piece on the side for the spoon to rest on. I am not sure if the second stand is to a brides basket. A squatty pickle castor or something else. It measures approximately 4.125" wide and is about 4" tall. It has an intricate pattern around the edges and also has a spoon rest on the side. Both of these pieces are tarnished and I don't see any marks. I assume that they are silverplate. But could possibly be pewter. They come as-is with no guarantee as to the material. Ultra beautiful and fine Rogers Smith silver plated pickle castor set with tongs. There are no defects of any kind that I can find on this beautiful set. The glass jar is highly unique with its etchings of birds( which looks like herons) and cattails. No chips.Cracks, or breaks. This was found at an estate sale with the Cartier bag.it barely fits over the castor but it is a neat little extra that I will be including. Please look closely at all pics. I imagine it is not a real easy example to find, as it is the only one like it we have ever seen. It is certainly quite fancy and was probably fairly expensive to purchase, some 125 or so years ago. I would guess that not all that many were ever sold, and you usually find pretty basic single models, and one like this would have been purchased by a fairly affluent family. The condition is actually quite good given its age. The only thing that needs mentioned on the cut glass inserts is that one of the lids has an edge chip on the top and bottom in the same area approximately. see picture#9. Both bases and the other lid is ... morein excellent condition with no chips or damage" which is pretty amazing" The two cut glass inserts measure 6 1/2 inches tall" to the top of the bird" by 3 inches across at the base, and get larger near the top. The frame measures 11 1/2 inches tall by 8 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/4 inches deep. The fancy figural silver plate frame shows some wear to the silverplate, and we have not tried to polish or clean it. This is just the way the pickle castor looked when it was discovered in an estate this week. It would make a fine addition to any collection. Antique Cranberry Thumbprint Silver Plate Pickle Castor Bowl ~With multi-Utensil Holders~ Very unique. And rare cranberry thumbprint glass insert measures approx. 4-3/4" diameter. 3" tall. Silver plated pickle caster holder has a ornate handle with ornate multi- utensil holders circling the bowl. The bottom of the holder has 4 ornate pedestal legs. Caster does not have any of the utensils. Unknown age, possibly from the late 1800's? No markings. Caster holder measures approx. 12" tall. 6" wide, 8" diameter center. Caster bowl is in antique condition. Cranberry thumbprint glass is in good condition. No chips, or cracks, has some light scratch marks. Silver plated caster holder has lots of patina, dents, wear, and missing silver plate(please see pictures) I try to describe as much as I can. Antique Pickle Castor Cranberry Dot with Tongs This beautiful pickle castor was purchased at an antique show in Del Mar. California many years ago. This set has always been one of my favorites. I love the cranberry jar. The best is the bird head designed. Tong holder and the bird claw designed tong. Truly lovely. Item Description*Jar size: 3.75" width(at widest point) x 4.25" height*Metal holder size: 5" width(at widest point) x 11" height*The metal holder is marked Superior Silver Plate Company- Quadruple- 19 on the underside(see photo 12) Set includes holder frame. Cranberry jar, tongs and jar lid. I am not sure if all the pieces are were originally together. They were purchased together about 20 years ago. Condition*Metal is in excellent condition. I don't see scratches or any dents. The underside needs a little ... morecleaning(see photo 5) I cleaned the metal as best as I could but still probably needs a little more cleaning. There are some polish residue in the small areas that I couldn't remove. Glass jar is in good condition but has five chips around the rim(see photos 6-11) You cannot see these chips when the lid is on the jar. Old Victorian Albany Silver Plate Co. Triple Plate Pickle Castor stand tongs lid
This auction is for an old Victorian Era pickle"stand/ holder/ frame" with its lid and tongs. There is NO glass jar. There is a toe broken off one of the claws on the tongs. And part of the ornamentation is broken off one side near the base. You can see where the stand sides are welded to the base. Otherwise this is a very very pretty stand, lid, tong set. It just needs a jar to complete. Even with the missing parts it is still functional and would make a lovely addition to a Victorian table setting.
