Victorian pickle castor, IVT cranberry glass, hand ptd insert, & tongs x2, c1890
Victorian pickle castor. Metal unmarked, IVT(inverted thumbprint) cranberry glass, hand painted insert, floral spray in raised thicker enamel, tongs x 2, c1890. The castor is about 9.75" tall and 6" wide. The castor is probably original and from a quality company. The number"24" is scratched into the base(photo 7 at about 5:00) The glass insert has a ground and gilded top. There is a small fleabite on the inner rim of the insert(photo 5) which is minor. I did polish lightly, and checked the plating. The plating is all intact with no worn spots. It could be thoroughly polished when received, however, old silver plate looks better to me with some oxide to reflect its antiqueness. My opinion. Added Feb 11. 4:45 pm: The castor has been identifed as a excellent example of the Meriden Silver Plate Co. by an experienced collector/author. ... moreAs a Meriden castor, it would be"quadruplated. Offered from a NJ estate is a rare and beautiful Victorian ear double castor set A silverplated stand with flower and scroll embossing around cups and handle. Flared embossed feet. Decorative scroll hook for the tongs which have 3 claw scaled grabbers and dogwood flowers applied on the handles where you'd grip. The jars are gorgeous cranberry glass in a melon rib pattern. They flare at the bases and taper to straight sides. The silverplated lids are beautifully embossed with raised scroll and have knobs with feather motif. Excellent vintage condition with no dents. Scratches or dings to the plate. The bottles are in excellent condition with the exception of a 3/8" shallow rim chip. On one that is shown in close up in the final photo. We continue offering items from a consignment that have been in a Southwestern New Hampshire family for years. As we have now discovered, back into the first half of the 19th century. My consignor explains; To the best of my knowledge my family were primarily farmers in Dublin. NH. There were several generations living on the farms at the same time. Farm income was supplemented by various means. Hiriam Carey was the Dublin carriage driver for Mark Twain and my Grandmother was a seamstress who also made costumes for the likes of Amelia Earhart and Joseph Linden Smith during their stays in Dublin. Though there may not have been a lot of money to purchase luxuries' or non essential items sometimes the family was given small things for either payment or in appreciation. Antique Pickle Castor Yellow Quilted Satin Glass Silverplate Frame Lid Tongs
My parents collected antique art glass(among other things) in the 1960's- 70's& this is from their collection. The glass part is screaming yellow quilted cased satin glass; no maker's mark but it has the pontil on the bottom so it was hand blown. The inside is white satin glass; the outside is a the yellow that is lighter at the bottom going to darker as it gets higher. There's an impressed quilted pattern plus the quilt pattern is made the colors in the glass(hard to explain& hope you can see what I mean in my pics) It's a fine piece of victorian glass. It measures 4 3/4" tall; 3 1/8" across the top& 2 5/8" across the bottom. The glass has no chips. Breaks or other damage. There are a few small dark spots where the silver of the frame has touched to glass. The lid has no marks on it- it fits ... moreperfectly. The tongs are also unmarked and are 6 5/8" long. The frame is 11 1/2" tall. It has 4 round ball feet. There's a place to hang the tongs. The frame is stamped Wilcox Silver Plate Co. 4696 Quadruple Plate. This listing is for a Victorian-style silverplate pickle castor. Panel style, clear insert, w/tongs, by Rogers Smith of New Haven, Conn. The castor measures 10 1/2" high and is in Very Good condition with light surface scratches and a few small tarnish spots but but no dings, dents, or other blemishes. According to several reference books on silver marks, the ROGERS SMITH/ NEW HAVEN mark on the underside was used from 1857 until 1866 when the company was merged with Meriden Britannia Co. Especially to base, consistent with these older stands. The glass is clear. Pressed glass, and might be Heisey. Antique Barbour Quadruple Silver Plate and Amber Glass Pickle Castor With Tongs
This is an elegant pickle castor with tongs that I have had since the 70's. The silver plated base is marked"Barbour Silver Co. quadruple. 2309" The base is adorned with a fine embossing. The header has stylistic flowers or leaves and a large flower at the top center. A leaf and bud design hold the tongs. There is very slight wear of the silver on the lid edge, which is topped by a decorated knob. There are no dents or scratches or dings in the silver base. The tongs are decorated with a flower and a bow and the claws at the end. They are only slightly tarnished. The amber glass is thick glass with"V"s of smooth glass at the top and inverted"V"s of smooth glass at the bottom. Between the"V"s are daisies and buttons. The glass has a couple small bubbles from the manufacturing process, but no chips ... moreor cracks. The total height is 10 3/4 inches tall and 4 inches diameter at the base. Up for sale is this beautiful Victorian quadruple plate Pickle Castor with a clear glass jar and tongs. At the top it has a flower motif. I see one tiny dimple on base. Otherwise good. Made by New Amsterdam Co. The jar is clear and is hand painted in the Mary Gregory style. Some bubbles in the glass and a very minor scratch. The metal stand measures 10 1/4" tall. Base 3 7/8" by 4 1/2" inside diameter 3 1/4" Jar 5 7/8" Tall, top 3 1/8" bottom 2 1/2" Glass fits well in stand. Some of the plate is worn on the tongs.

Antique Vtg. Pickle Castor w/tongs Vaseline Glass, Quadruple silver # 104
This is a very beautiful pickle castor made by Barbour Bros. Co. and is marked on the bottom Silver Qualruple and number 104. The arch that holds the tongs has a flying bird in the top center section and fish on the side. The tongs have bird feet as pinchers and flowers on the side of them. The glass is a Vaseline green with star bursts. I did not polish this. It's as is. There are two chips in the glass, I'm pointing to them in my last two pictures. Up for auction is a lovely complete antique pickle castor from the Wilcox Silver Co. Quadruple Plate( which is the heaviest plating) The frame is in wonderful condition. Doesn't wobble, nothing broken or dented and the plating is great, clean, shiny and with minor wear for its age. The crown is highly decorated with leaves and flowers, the handles on each side near the base are very ornate and the bright work around the bottom if you look closely is also quite detailed, this is only something you would get from the 1880's silversmiths. The lid which is also in good condition other then some light surface scratches has a finial that seems to match the small little flowers as the top of the frame(the dark areas you see on the lid is just reflection) The inverted cranberry thumbprint pickle jar insert is a gorgeous color with no cracks. ... moreChips and only the most miniscule tiny nick on the rim which you can hardly see and barley feel(I tried to take a picture but it didn't show) This Victorian set is completed by a nice pair of antique pickle tongs. This is a wonderful set which I have owned for many years and now time to pass on to someone else. Up for auction is a lot of pickle castor parts. Jars, tumblers, frames, lids, forks and tongs. This is a compilation of items purchased on e bay that either were not as described or Mr. Postman put his accidental touches on! The glass listed has no cracks or chips. Most of the lids have plate loss. One of the frames has an old repair on the very center of the very top. It has silver plating over the repair. The other frame has a re-attached foot. The rope twist frame has a very small insert space(2 1/2" and is just under 10" tall. The crown is not centered and the frame does not sit evenly. The other frame has decent plating and all I can read on the base is"Triple Plate" Insert space is 3 1/4" and it is 10 1/2" tall. One of the lids is for a cigar jar and may or may not be silver plated. The lid with the very ... moretall finial appears to be newer and is heavy. The lid with the large flower finial is worn and the finial is interchangeable. One of the tongs has claws missing. The other tong only has some plating loss. Both of the cranberry jars appear to be old. They are both heavy and thicker than tumblers. They may be jam or jelly jars. They both look old. The jar with the exotic flower etchings looks to be newer and may be a short tumbler. The inverted thumbprint jar has a 3" rim and is 3 3/4" The spiral jar is 3 1/2" tall and has a rim diameter of 2 7/8" The clear cane and fan pickle jar is 4 1/2" tall and has a 3" rim diameter. It is in perfect condition. The milk glass. Enameled Hearts jar is 3 1/4" tall and has a 3" diameter rim. The rim has some worn areas that are smooth but may have had some nicks at some point in time. They are smooth to the touch. The enamel is intact. The crystal pickle jar shown with the"screw" type lid is 4 1/2" tall with a 2 3/4" rim. The lid shown on it is a little bit large but works. Forks average about 6" in length from different makers. Antique Pickle Castor Cranberry Dot with Tongs This beautiful pickle castor was purchased at an antique show in Del Mar. California many years ago. This set has always been one of my favorites. I love the cranberry jar. The best is the bird head designed. Tong holder and the bird claw designed tong. Truly lovely. Item Description*Jar size: 3.75" width(at widest point) x 4.25" height*Metal holder size: 5" width(at widest point) x 11" height*The metal holder is marked Superior Silver Plate Company- Quadruple- 19 on the underside(see photo 12) Set includes holder frame. There is a stamp on the bottom. I believe it is Wilcox with the 2 crossed hammers, quadruple plate 4615. Warm Golden Amber Glass Insert that measures 4 1/2" tall x 3" wide and seems to fit frame perfectly. Heavy Jar is in Excellent Overall Condition with No chips or flea-bites! From a local Ohio estate, we are pleased to offer this lovely Victorian era pickle castor with a cranberry art glass insert. We are often amazed that these beautiful pieces were made just to serve condiments on the Victorian table. Most of us. Today, just take the pickle or relish jar out of the refrigerator and put it on the table! But. In the late 1800's, this would have been a delight for any hostess to showcase her fine dinner as it was passed around the table with it's tasty treat inside. The frame features an aesthetic design with a band of scrolling entwined flowers held off the tabletop on four ball-tipped spade feet. The leaf design on the feet is mirrored in the elements at the base of the ... morehoop handle and on both sides of the open work crest that winds above the top loop. Atop the jar is an ornate highly chased lid with an assortment of garden dwellers- including a plumed bird. A dragonfly, and a butterfly amid a sea of lush flower blossoms and foliage. Tongs with tiny hand pincers and bow finger rests hang from one side. The cranberry art glass insert has an inverted thumbprint design that plays with the light when empty and magnifies the jars contents when full in a most wonderful manner. Beautiful! Marked on the bottom with the Middlefield Plate Co. logo- Quadruple Plate. The words Hard White Metal and the number#96. Measures approximately 10-7/8" to the top with a 4-7/8" footprint. This set is in marvelous condition! No dents or damage to the frame and the silverplate has polished up nicely with an eye-pleasing antique patina in the recesses. Noting the silverplate may be a little worn(not quite as bright) on the pincers from the acidic nature of the pickles. This auction is for an old Victorian Era pickle"stand/ holder/ frame" with its lid and tongs. There is NO glass jar. There is a toe broken off one of the claws on the tongs. And part of the ornamentation is broken off one side near the base. You can see where the stand sides are welded to the base. Otherwise this is a very very pretty stand, lid, tong set. For your consideration. We are offering A Victorian pickle castor made by the Rockford Silver Company. It boasts 2 matching tongs and a L.G.Wright. Vaseline, Uranium jar. This castor is 12 1/2" tall and stands on 4 ornate feet. The jar is in the"Daisy and Buttons" pattern. Normally called"Vaseline" or"Uranium" It glows brightly under black light lamps. This is one of the more stunning vaseline jars I've seen in many years. It glows with natural sun light alone. ANTIQUE SILVERPLATE PICKLE CASTOR JAR WITH TONGS PERFECT CONDITION
I am assisting with the liquidation of a family member's estate. She was a collector or everything- Majolica. Antique pickle castors or jars, antique biscuit jars, antique Christmas and Halloween, vintage costume jewelry, etc. etc. Her taste was impeccable and her items are of the highest quality, so please check back with me often as I will be listing items as time permits. You are viewing an antique pickle castor or jar. The jar is clear glass and it is either cut or pressed with squares as well as"stars" within the squares. The bottom features a starburst design. The castor or holder was silver plated at one time. And the top features an unusual fan and flower design. The jar itself measures 4.25 inches in height, and the entire piece measures 11 inches in height. The bottom of the piece is marked with"Triple Plated" ... moreand the mark"385. UNION SILVER COMPANY PICKLE CASTOR with TONGS
You are bidding on a very pretty Victorian pickle castor by the Union Silver Co. It consists of a jar with lid. Stand and tongs. The stand is about 10" tall with a base diameter of 3 3/4" The tongs is 6" long and 1 3/4" wide. The clear crystal colorless glass jar is 4 1/8" tall without the lid and has a diameter of 3 1/8" With the lid on, the jar stands about 6 1/4" off the table. The glass jar has no mark and has three mold lines. The stand is marked on the bottom"UNION SILVER CO. TRIPLE" and the number 400. I do not know the age of the piece. I have not been able to find any information about the Union Silver Co. although I have seen other old antique pieces by this company on eBay. And they ha ve all been silver plated. I have had the pickle castor for many years and am puzzled by the fact that ... moreit never tarnishes but always looks bright and shiny as new with no care. Since I do not like to polish silver. This has been a definite advantage. My guess is that at some point it has been re-plated with something other than silver, perhaps nickel. Or perhaps the Union Silver Co. sometimes made items plated with something other than silver. Any information would be appreciated. The stand is in excellent condition with a bright and shiny finish. It has no dents or damage. The jar is also in very good condition with no cracks and only a very slight shallow chip on the edge of the base. Which is not at all noticeable. I do not ship outside the USA.

Rockford Silver Co. Pickle Castor Measures 10 1/2" tall The lid looks like it has been repaired. See picture. The bottom base has small dents. Glass insert has no chips or damage. Tongs are in good shape. Definitely needs cleaning.

Antique Triple Plate Rogers & Bro #137 Pickle Castor w/Tongs & Lidded Glass Jar
This pickle castor stands 9” tall. The jar with lid measures approximately 6” tall. The jar itself is 4“ tall and does not have any cracks or chips. The tongs measure 7“ long. The lid has a small bend(as pointed out in my pictures) But does not affect the appearance or fit on the jar. Webster & Brothers Quadruple Plate Vintage Pickle Castor With Matching Tongs
This is a nice pickle castor. It has an ornate design on either side and at the top where it also has a place to hang the tongs. The jar is heavy glass but the top does have some spots on it. I don't know the wxact age but would say bit is very old and would be a nice collectible for your collection or table. It stands a little over 10" tall. Please check the shipping before you buy. Victorian quadruple silver plate amber cane pickle castor with claw tongs made circa 1890. Stands 11" high and is 4" wide at the base. Four pieces in the set. All original. Amber pattern glass jar in a textured cane pattern, probably by McKee Bros. Marked on underside: Acme Silver Co Toronto with a moon and stars. The Acme Silver Co operated in Toronto.
