The silver plate is made by William ... moreRogers Manufacturing Co. the bottom is marked"WM. Rogers Mfg. Co. and then reads"Rogers" with an anchor on each side. There are also the marks"Quadruple 448" The anchors date this piece to 1865-1867. The insert is a very pretty opalescent light blue satin glass with a diamond hatch mark design. Please see photos as I am doing a terrible job of describing the beauty of this piece. The glass is slightly bluer on top and more opal on the bottom. There is wear to the rim but no chips. Cracks, or other damage to the piece. The silver plate holder is very decorative with a floral design and a ruffled edge. The lid of the pickle jar has a brighter finish than the rest of the piece and I am unsure if it is the original lid. Please make your own determination. The decoration on the tongs has floral elements but also may not be original to the piece. The pickle castor measures about 10&1/2" tall and just over 6&1/2" at its widest and the glass insert measures about 4&1/4" tall and about 3&1/2" in diameter. I cannot find the pattern for this piece and I know this glass design is rare- this is over all a stunning and unusual piece and would be a perfect addition to any collection. Ornate Victorian Quad. Silver Plate Pickle Castor Blue Glass/Crystal?
I have seen some of the other pickle castors that have sold for ridiculous money recently and in my opinion this would fall into a higher quality category. Both the lid and base have such beautiful detail. The blue of the glass or crystal(not sure) is a great color and has no chips or cracks. No damage to piece whatsoever. Victorian/Antique Blue Thumbprint Silverplate Spooner/Pickle Castor
Here is a beautiful Victorian Serving Castor with the original glass insert. This is a hard to find piece. I believe this piece is from the 1877 to 1890's era. I tried to find info about J Rogers Silver Co and found only one piece of info that claimed J Rogers sold his business in 1877 and retired. It is marked J Rogers Silver Co on the inside of the lid. I purchased this fine old piece at an estate sale this last summer. The home was previously owned by a very long standing antique dealer well known in Portland by many. She collected everything and hoarded as well. It holds 12 spoons around the side of the piece. I have shown 6 on one side for viewing. All 12 holders are intact. This piece has been used. It is not a flawless piece. I have taken photos so please view each and every one. The last photo shows three and I want to reiterate ... morethis- I said three very itty bitty. Teeny flea nips along one side of the glass bowl. You can't hardly see them when viewing them up close. The camera does pick them up on the screen. There are no cracks or chips. I always try to emphasize any imperfections. While this lovely piece is not perfect, it is very very nice. I want you to be satisfied so please recognize that antiques are not always perfect. Victorian PICKLE CASTOR - BLUE SPATTER Glass Jar White Enamel Flowers - AURORA
AURORA S.P.MFG. CO. Quadruple Plate/ Warranted/ 672. Victorian PICKLE CASTOR Enamel& Gilt decorated BLUE Spatter Glass Jar/ Insert. An unusual& interesting shape for both the frame and the jar. The handle of the FRAME curves upward from the base- it is finished with a decorative floral header and another decorative piece on the back which has a double prong hook for tongs or a fork. The base is a solid platform- 3.75" wide including the raised rim. 3.25" wide recessed area- supported on 4 open work feet- 75" high. Overall height is 9.5" 6" deep. Condition: Very Good- most of the silver plate has worn off exposing an attractive finish to the base metal. There may be some missing decoration on the back of the handle indicated by a couple old marks that may have been solder points- not really missed, the handle ... morelooks to have been re-attached- newer looking solder joints on either side- under the rim of the base. The JAR or Insert is Fabulous! A beautiful sky BLUE color with mottled"raindrops" of white opalescent glass- a Spatter effect often referred to as"End of Day" The surface is hand decorated with White enamel flowers and Gilded leaves and branches. The squatty shape fits the frame so perfectly- it must be original. It Measures: 3.75" tall. 4" wide, 3" diameter foot, 2.75" wide mouth(OS) Condition: Excellent- a few super tiny"flea bites" on the rim- NO chips cracks. Or repairs, some wear to the gilding- several lovely old bubbles in the glass! The LID is a nice fit for the jar- it slips inside the mouth of the jar and sits on the rim. Antique Victorian Figural Enameled Blue Pickle Castor
Up for auction is this rare and unusual blue enameled pickle castor in a silver plated frame marked Meriden# 1761. It stands 11 1/2" tall and has a bird sitting at the top of the frame. The silver plate is in very good condition with just a small loss of silver at the bottom of the holder. There appears to have been previous repairs made to the ring that goes around the frame(where it attaches to the handle) The blue enameled insert is 4 3/4" high and is decorated with sprays of apple blossoms and golden highlights around the perimeter of the jar and at the top. There are a few tiny flea bites at the top of the jar. The silver plated lid has an opening for the pickle fork.

Pickle Castor" Aesthetic Movement Era Limited Edition Design Number; 222 3"Daisies and Buttons" Blue Glass Sleeve Quadruple Silverplate Stand; 13 1/4" high x 6" across(at widest point of frame) Glass Sleeve; 4 1/2" high x 3 1/4" across Tongs; 7" long 2 lbs. 2 oz. Meriden Britannia Company Meriden. Connecticut circa 1852- 1862 Elegant. Limited edition design, Pickle Castor made by the Meriden Britannia Company circa 1852- 1862. Horace and Dennis Wilcox formed the Meriden Britannia Company in 1852 and the hallmark on this piece is from that era. In 1862 they purchased Rogers Brothers Mfg. holloware division, tools and dies, and by 1869 Meriden had completely taken over Rogers. The Meriden hallmark changed in the early 1860's to include Rogers. Meriden's limited edition designs were numbered next ... moreto the hallmark, and this piece is numbered 222 with what appears to be a 3 underneath. The design for the stand is an elegant, streamlined style floral pattern, in keeping with the use of nature themes in the Aesthetic Movement of that era. The sleeve is made of blue glass that was blown into a mold(no seams) And it has a faceted"Daisies and Buttons" design with many high points to give it a lot of sparkle. The bottom also bears the"QUADRUPLE PLATE" stamp next to the hallmark, meaning that 4 layers of silver were applied to this piece. This beautiful rare Pickle Castor is in wonderful antique condition; no cracks or breaks to the metal of the stand, tongs or lid, there's some age/use wear to the surface of the silver plate including tarnish and there's a small ding to the lid(see photos) The glass sleeve has a tiny flea-bite to the top edge and there's a small chip to the side of one of the petals on one daisy(see photo) No other chips, cracks or breaks to the glass, and the silver plate needs to be polished to look its' very best. Cobalt Blue Torquay Pickle Castor Set– Frame# 363 by Benedict Mfg. Co.1894-1953 measures 10 ¼” H x 3 ½” W x 3 ½” D. This frame sits on four little lions paw feet. The silver plate on the frame and tongs is excellent and original. The lid was rubbed to hard and needs resilvering. A charming blue cobalt Torquay jar enameled in white and yellow forget me knots and green leaves. Is the centerpiece of this set. This unique ridged style of jar is named for the town in which it was hand blown and not for its highly desirable melon ridged design. Torquay is located on the Wessex Coast of Southern England where the art of hand blowing glass is still taught today. According to William Heacock, noted author on Victorian Colored Glass, Torquay is a Kopp design produced by Consolidated Lamp& Glass Co. around 1904. The jar shows no wear ... moreand is a perfect fit to this frame. All proportions are beautifully matched. The jar measures 3” H x 4 ¼” W x 3” across the lip. No chips or dings nor flaws noted. Cobalt is a blue colorant that produces rich blues in glass making when used in mixes containing potash. Very few Victorian jars were made in the cobalt blue color. The tongs in this set measure 6 ½” in length and are three prong with a little spear creating the center prong. This beautiful set is circa late 19 th to early 20 th century.

ANTIQUE VICTORIAN MERIDEN PICKLE CASTOR WITH SPECKLED BLUE GLASS INSERT This auction offers an antique Meriden silverplated pickle castor with a speckled blue and white glass jar. The frame is 10-1/2" tall and about 4-1/4" wide. The jar is blue glass with a speckled white finish with cutouts. It is 4" tall and 3" in diameter. The frame is apparently slightly bent because the insert rests up against one of the columns. Which you can see in the photos. It is not harming anything-the insert still fits fine and can probably be straightened by hand, but I have not attempted this. The tongs are 6-1/2" in length and probably not original to the set. There is silverplate loss to the frame. It is marked Meriden B. Co. and Quadruple Plate 248. This auction is for a pretty antique pickle castor by Adelphi. The base of the silverplate castor has a row of nine embossed panels with floral scenes alternating with scenes of a figure walking through a garden. The top of the castor has a nice. Egyptian Revival style geometric design. The jar is a bright blue EAPG in a block design. The castor has the usual patina and plate loss and there are a couple tiny fleabites on the facets of the jar, but this is otherwise in good condition and displays beautifully. Also comes with a pair of hand form tongs. Measures approximately 12" tall when lidded and 4 1/2" wide.
