Offered from a NJ estate is a rare and beautiful Victorian ear double castor set A silverplated stand with flower and scroll embossing around cups and handle. Flared embossed feet. Decorative scroll hook for the tongs which have 3 claw scaled grabbers and dogwood flowers applied on the handles where you'd grip. The jars are gorgeous cranberry glass in a melon rib pattern. They flare at the bases and taper to straight sides. The silverplated lids are beautifully embossed with raised scroll and have knobs with feather motif. Excellent vintage condition with no dents. Scratches or dings to the plate. The bottles are in excellent condition with the exception of a 3/8" shallow rim chip. On one that is shown in close up in the final photo. Stand is 10" to top of handle 8" wide and 4" deep. Jars are 4" across at widest. ... more3" at waist and 5 3/4" tall to top of finial. The stand spans 8" by 4" with a footed platform to hold both jars. The feet are super ornate and adorned with fans. Scrolls and wings from the Aesthetic era. The corners on the frame that support the jars have a full figural deer lying down with a cherub or putti holding on to the antlers. see photos) The castor retains both original Early American Pattern Glass jars in the paneled Diamond Point pattern. Both jars are excellent with no damage or chips. The jars are covered with a dome top lid with a repousse of engraved floral bouquet on both sides of ... morethe lid with a tall finial. The castor frame stands 13" in height to the center handle and has a hanger on each side for tongs. This castor set came from a fine estate and has been in the family for generations. It has always been well cared for. I lightly polished and there is no silver loss or damage. Here we have a very unique. 1880's era ~ VICTORIAN"DOUBLE" PICKLE CASTOR WITH BOTH ORIGINAL CUT GLASS INSERTS WITH FIGURAL BIRD GLASS LIDS ~ This was made by SIMPSON HALL& MILLER WALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT. I imagine it is not a real easy example to find, as it is the only one like it we have ever seen. It is certainly quite fancy and was probably fairly expensive to purchase, some 125 or so years ago. I would guess that not all that many were ever sold, and you usually find pretty basic single models, and one like this would have been purchased by a fairly affluent family. The condition is actually quite good given its age. The only thing that needs mentioned on the cut glass inserts is that one of the lids has an edge chip on the top and bottom in the same area approximately. see picture#9. Both bases and the other lid is ... morein excellent condition with no chips or damage" which is pretty amazing" The two cut glass inserts measure 6 1/2 inches tall" to the top of the bird" by 3 inches across at the base, and get larger near the top. This is just the way the pickle castor looked when it was discovered in an estate this week. It would make a fine addition to any collection. 19th century Double Pickle Castor set.
Up for auction is this very nice Late 19 th Century Double Pickle Castor Set. Having two frosted glass jars with etched design with silver plate covers all situated on a sliver plate base. Includes one pair of tongs with three fingers on each side. There are no apparent markings on this set but it is very nice. There is a minor indentation noted at the base and some wear to the silver. Pickle Jars are 6-1/4 in. tall to top of lid, and 3-1/4 in. across at base. One of the glasses has a large chip at base and several small chips at top rim. The other glass has a few minor nicks at base. The metal holder has some small dings or dents, and two pieces missing from the metal rings holding the glass jars in place, see pictures. Rare Victorian Meriden Silverplate Pickle Castor Double Handled Loving Cup Amber
This auction is for an elegant antique pickle castor in an unusual double handled form. The silverplate castor is stamped Meriden with a mold number of 216. The jar is amber pressed glass with a beaded dart design. The castor has a lot of plate loss and there are a couple tiny fleabites on the jar. But this is otherwise in good condition and displays beautifully. Measures approximately 7" tall when lidded and 6 1/4" wide from handle to handle.
