The glass insert measures 6 inches high to the finial on the cover and is 4 3/4 inches in diameter across the bottom of the jar. This fine silver plate piece features a round base with 4 cabriole feet in the Rococo style. It has oval medallions around the base with a scrolling acanthus leaf handle that raises above the base. The glass jar is acid etched and hand painted with a large landscape scene featuring a mother and child walking on a large estate. The painting is further enhanced with heavy applied gold enameling. The silver plate is made by William ... moreRogers Manufacturing Co. the bottom is marked"WM. Rogers Mfg. Co. and then reads"Rogers" with an anchor on each side. There are also the marks"Quadruple 448" The anchors date this piece to 1865-1867. The insert is a very pretty opalescent light blue satin glass with a diamond hatch mark design. Please see photos as I am doing a terrible job of describing the beauty of this piece. The glass is slightly bluer on top and more opal on the bottom. There is wear to the rim but no chips. Cracks, or other damage to the piece. The silver plate holder is very decorative with a floral design and a ruffled edge. The lid of the pickle jar has a brighter finish than the rest of the piece and I am unsure if it is the original lid. Please make your own determination. The decoration on the tongs has floral elements but also may not be original to the piece. The pickle castor measures about 10&1/2" tall and just over 6&1/2" at its widest and the glass insert measures about 4&1/4" tall and about 3&1/2" in diameter. I cannot find the pattern for this piece and I know this glass design is rare- this is over all a stunning and unusual piece and would be a perfect addition to any collection. Up for auction is an awesome Victorian pickle jar lid. It is silverplate with heavy embossing. Depicting birds, flowers and butterflies. The plating is in great condition, bright and shiny without any bends or breaks. What makes this piece so outstanding is the wonderful finial on top of a butterfly in exceptional detail that only the Victorian silversmiths seemed to take pride in doing. The lid measures 3 1/4 inches inside diameter. Sometimes the lid makes all the difference in the beauty of your pickle castor insert and a less detailed frame. My parents collected antique art glass(among other things) in the 1960's- 70's& this is from their collection. The glass part is screaming yellow quilted cased satin glass; no maker's mark but it has the pontil on the bottom so it was hand blown. The inside is white satin glass; the outside is a the yellow that is lighter at the bottom going to darker as it gets higher. There's an impressed quilted pattern plus the quilt pattern is made the colors in the glass(hard to explain& hope you can see what I mean in my pics) It's a fine piece of victorian glass. It measures 4 3/4" tall; 3 1/8" across the top& 2 5/8" across the bottom. The glass has no chips. Breaks or other damage. There are a few small dark spots where the silver of the frame has touched to glass. The lid has no marks on it- it fits ... moreperfectly. The tongs are also unmarked and are 6 5/8" long. Silverplate frame and top, no makers marks, no markings of any kind, no plate marks either but it is silverplate, It is missing the fork. The lid is domed but it had a dent which was fixed from the underside but it still is not perfectly round at the top, slightly off not perfectly round really not that noticeable I had a hard time trying to get a good photo. The ring around the bottom that holds the jar in place is slightly off round. The glass jar is handblown. I see no seams that you would find in pressed glass, it is a heavy weight piece of glass, ribbed panels with a band of floral etchings. There is a small clam shaped chip at the bottom of 1 of the ribbed panels, some tiny flea bites and rough marks around bottom edges of jar, no breaks or cracks. There is wear to the plating. Here is a beautiful Victorian Serving Castor with the original glass insert. This is a hard to find piece. I believe this piece is from the 1877 to 1890's era. I tried to find info about J Rogers Silver Co and found only one piece of info that claimed J Rogers sold his business in 1877 and retired. It is marked J Rogers Silver Co on the inside of the lid. I purchased this fine old piece at an estate sale this last summer. The home was previously owned by a very long standing antique dealer well known in Portland by many. She collected everything and hoarded as well. It holds 12 spoons around the side of the piece. I have shown 6 on one side for viewing. All 12 holders are intact. This piece has been used. It is not a flawless piece. I have taken photos so please view each and every one. The last photo shows three and I want to reiterate ... morethis- I said three very itty bitty. This Quadruple Silverplated Pickle Castor made in Taunton, MA by Beacon Silver Company(later purchased by Rogers) This is#430 and in superb condition. It was owned by a great aunt in the Boston area and the piece was lovingly cared for. Being sold by the owner(not reseller) who loves antiques but is at the point of downsizing. Up for auction is this beautiful cranberry enameled thumbprint pickle castor in a silverplated frame marked Meriden# 0639. The cranberry insert is beautifully decorated around the entire perimeter with daisies and gold highlights around the jar and at the top rim. It is a corset shaped insert in very good condition with just a few flea bites at the top of the insert. The insert stands 4 1/2" tall. The silverplated frame is in very good condition also with no loss to the silverplate. It stands 11 1/4" tall. The sides of the frame are beautifully embossed with leaves. Flowers and fruit. There is a pair of tongs that hang from the side of the frame.

Up for auction is a lovely complete antique pickle castor from the Wilcox Silver Co. Quadruple Plate( which is the heaviest plating) The frame is in wonderful condition. Doesn't wobble, nothing broken or dented and the plating is great, clean, shiny and with minor wear for its age. The crown is highly decorated with leaves and flowers, the handles on each side near the base are very ornate and the bright work around the bottom if you look closely is also quite detailed, this is only something you would get from the 1880's silversmiths. The lid which is also in good condition other then some light surface scratches has a finial that seems to match the small little flowers as the top of the frame(the dark areas you see on the lid is just reflection) The inverted cranberry thumbprint pickle jar insert is a gorgeous color with no cracks. ... moreChips and only the most miniscule tiny nick on the rim which you can hardly see and barley feel(I tried to take a picture but it didn't show) This Victorian set is completed by a nice pair of antique pickle tongs. Antique Silverplate Pickle Castor with Vaseline Pattern Glass Insert
This is an authentic Victorian pickle castor over 100 years old. The silverplate frame was made by Warner Silverplate Co. A U.S. company, and does not have any damage or repair. The plating is good. The vaseline or canary glass insert is an Early American Pattern Glass pattern that I was unable to identify. It will fluoresce under black light. The insert is in perfect condition. The insert fits snuggly in the frame, and the lid fits snuggly also. I hate to see pickle castors misrepresented as being antique or correct. When they are a complete reproduction or using a reproduction insert, or using something like a tumbler or another vessel that wasn't intended as a castor insert. You are bidding on a one of a kind. Server, mustard, or pickle castor or condiment server with a glass insert and a spoon. It is made by Wilcox Silverplate Company#1636, and the spoon doesn't have a name, but says sterling. I don't know if this is the original spoon. I've had this forever, and I don't know the exact age. the top of the container has an engraved initials, MB or MJ, it's very scrolly. It is 3" high and 3" wide. The spoon is 4 3/4" long. The silver plate is cutdown design with glass inside, a floral and leaf design. Very nice. Very ornate and beautiful.

I was unable to find a mark though I believe is was made by the E.G. Webster& Brother Co. It measures about 10 1/2" tall by 5" wide and is in good to very good condition exhibiting a nice patina. Tufts antique silverplate pickle castor stand complete with the original glass optic design jar and the 2 original silverplate tongs. Measuring approx. 10 3/8 inches from top to bottom. The lid shows some wear and the tongs and base do. As well. Little dots of pitting exist on the bottom part of the base that holds the jar. There are some bends on the lid and the bottom of the base. However. Both do their job well, with no visible problems of these issues and neither is a detraction. A former owner has etched his name"Preston" the inside of the lid and the bottom of the base. Under strong magnification I see a tiny fleabite on the bottom rim of the glass jar. Which may be inherent to the glass. RARE Antique Enameled BLUE HOBNAIL CROWN MILANO PICKLE CASTOR Silverplate Frame
Offered for sale is this absolutely stunning Enameled CROWN MILANO PICKLE CASTOR in a footed PAIRPOINT Silver Plate frame marked Triple Plate# 664. This rare castor stands 8 1/2" tall and is in good condition with no loss to the silver plate. The beautifully hand enameled CROWN MILANO glass insert stands 4" tall and is in very good condition with no flea bites at the top of the insert. It is beautifully enameled with sprays of delicate blue and white flowers. There are a pair of tongs hanging from the side of the frame. The castor has its original lid and tongs. A"must have" for any pickle castor collection. Please include the pictures as part of the description.

Up for sale is a STUNNING Cranberry Enameled Thumbprint Pickle Castor in a beautifully decorated frame marked Wilcox Silver Plate CO# 4624. It stands approximately 10 3/4" tall. The silver plate is in excellent condition with no loss to the silver plate. Breaks or repairs. The Cranberry enameled thumbprint insert has large indetations around the perimeter of the jar. It is decorated with Gold Floral sprays and is approximately 3 7/8" high. It is in very good condition with no nicks or flea bites.There is a pair of pickle tongs hanging from the side of the castor. Ebay Listing Page Antique Victorian Silverplate EAPG Consolidated Cone Pink Glass Pickle Castor Item Description: Up for auction is a beautiful antique Victorian era pink cased glass pickle castor. The pickle castor is in the Cone pattern and it was made by the Consolidated Lamp& Glass Co. between 1894-1900. The glass is cased with a white inner layer. A pink middle layer, and a clear outside layer giving it this effect. The castor retains its original metal lid, and overall the castor stands approximately 6 1/4" tall from the bottom to the top of the finial on the lid. The castor is housed in a silverplate frame with ornate embossed birds and flowers around the bottom. The frame stands about 10" tall, and it is only marked with the number 651 on the bottom. Item Condition: The overall condition of the castor is very good to ... moreexcellent. It is very clean and has no chips. Cracks, or broken areas except for the rim which has standard roughness as these are typically found. You can expect to find the typical flaws of older glass to include airbubbles, strawmarks, and other minor imperfections.
