Major clear out of my studio, it is now filling up fast with new auction finds. The new year began well– I was offered the fabulous contents of a Victorian linen cupboard and a family collection of lace from a local estate. I also acquired lots of new stock from two wonderful antique textile auctions- one in SW England and another in Yorkshire. I am continuing to list these items as soon as I have laundered and inspected them– lace, shawls, Edwardian and Victorian costume, a collection of buttons etc. Happy browsing! This is a lovely triangular antique tambour lace shawl. Veil or mantilla- snowy white and freshly laundered, with no marks or stains. There is a sprinkling of tiny holes(last photograph) ... morebut these are relatively easy to mend with a well placed stitch. the floral scrolling motifs and polka dots mean that your stitches can be disguised as little flowers. This could be worn over a strapless wedding dress, or even worn as a wedding veil- I have shown it worn in two different ways. The long edge is 210cm long, and the point at the back is 44cm long. As you can see from the photos there are a couple of places on the edges where the lace has frayed a little however the main body of the stole appears to be free from damage. GORGEOUS VINTAGE 1920's PURE SILK BRIDAL SHAWL MANTILLA LOVELY CONDTION
PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR PHOTOS Here is a wonderfully elegant silk shawl of generous size with scalloped edges on all sizes. Made on a'pusher' machine, all silk. Length is 90 inches and width is 22 inches. It weighs 100 grams(4oz) Condition is very good. Just one small loss to about an inch of scalloped edge where it has snagged on something but it can hardly be seen. Probably dates back to the 1920's. Please note this may appear to have an orange tinge in the photos, it's reflections from the orange walls where the photos were taken! Please see my other textiles. Always happy to combine postage.

1800s Antique Lace Shawl Mourning Shawl Civil War Shawl Chantilly Lace Mantilla This stunning and extrememly rare two piece Spanish Silk lace mantilla headress and cape is a remarkable piece of textile history as well as American history and Spanish lace mastery. This lace was made by hand; chantilly lace. From French origins, yet made by the hands of skilled Spanish artists, takes about 10 hours for one square inch of lace to be made, This lace set has invisible seaming, known as point de racroc, which allows for a beautiful semaless transition from the Alencon-type netted back drop, into floral relief, which is better know as Chantilly Lace. The pattern is a fantastic make up of scroll work, floral and foliage needlepoint, which comes together into this master piece of a cape and headdress. From a carefully preserved collection of family lace- a gorgeous tambour lace on tulle shoulder shawl. Mantilla or wrap dating to around 1840. It is freshly laundered, and ecru in colour(if you have a Farrow& Ball colour chart to hand it most closely resembles colour Nr 1- Lime White) Very fine detailed work- especially ... moreat the ends of the front lappets and the edges. The lappets are 26cm in diameter. The shawl is shaped to fit over the shoulders(25cm deep at the back, and 230cm long) I can spot around 6 holes(I have shown the largest of these in the last 4 photographs) and some pinprick holes. Lots of wonderful 19 th century French fabrics are being unpacked and laundered– some are listed this week. I also have an amazing collection of 19thC jet embellishments– unused. This is a very beautiful antique French wedding shawl, capelet or mantilla- embroidered with appliques and crewel work embroidery(Cornely) with scrolling motifs of grapes and vines(often symbols of fruitfulness and bounty) It is freshly laundered ... moreand snowy white, with no marks, stains or damage. There may be the odd stray thread to trim, as this type of applique and crewel work edging sometimes leaves slightly fuzzy edges, but no holes or damage. This would look wonderful worn over a strapless wedding dress, or a special evening dress- perfect for summer evenings. It is 32cm deep at the back, and 142cm measured from one end to the other. So do keep popping back to see what I have unearthed! This is one of the finest antique French wedding shawls. Veils or mantillas I have come across recently. It is exquisite- even the tulle or filet background is hand netted, suggesting this is a ... morevery early piece. It is freshly laundered and snowy white, with no marks or stains. I can spot just one or two small breaks in the net ground(last 2 photographs) which I think could be easily remedied with a well-placed stitch or two. The scrolling floral motifs are all hand embroidered on to the net- so pretty. It measures 75cm wide x 259cm long. It could be used as a veil, a wrap or a shawl. Machine made bobbin lace/Chantilly lace dating from late 19th to early 20th century, possibly of French origin, no label designating fiber content but the feel is either a strong silk or cotton fiber. Triangle in shape with scalloped edges. And corded threading outlining the assortment of floral and leaf motifs. Measures: across the top: 97 inches(2m 49cm) center to bottom point: 56 inches(1m 42cm) left or right top tip corner edge to center point bottom: 76 inches(1m 83cm) Condition: Noted after searching the textile that it is: free of dry rot. The design consists of elaborate sprays inside oval cartouches, the ground filled with leaves& swags. Condition: There is an old 3” tear/separation in the middle of the top border and an area of loss to the net measuring approximately 3” x 2” just below; a vertical separation to the net measuring approximately 7” in length just above the deep border on the point; an approximate 2” long area of scattered loss to the net at the approximate 2:00 position on the center cartouche(the largest of which is a 7/16” hole) a few eraser head size holes to the net in the same cartouche and various other scattered pinhead& eraser head size holes throughout. Up for Sale A Stunning 19th Century Antique Elaborated Gros Point De Venise Hand Made Needle Lace Ivory Bridal Mantilla Veil Shawl or Runner. 23" x 54" I'm not an expert in linen. Please correct me if description is inaccurate. Please use closeup view to examine photos. Panoramic detailed view are shown in pics 6.7,8,9. I beleive the mid section fabric is a very fine linen. But there could be silk as well but I can't guarantee. Linen fabric has 16 pull thread squares. Squares" were they meant to change the mid section into net veil? Condition are shown in last pics. 1 1/4" red spot is shown in last pic. I believe spot will remove once laundered. Three tiny holes on the linen are shown in pics 10 and 11. Three pull thread"squares" have broken threads. Best if soaked in order to refresh it as it was stored ... moreaway for many decades. Color is light ivory cream. Almost white.
