DESCRIPTION Fabulous antique large ecru hand-done CLUNY/BEDFORDSHIRE CONTINUOUS BOBBIN lace collar! FABRIC: Cotton. I believe, but lined with ecru chiffon silk! COLOUR: Ecru! PATTERN: This is quite an amazing hand-done antique large collar with a tremendous amount of detail-from my ... moreresearch it looks like Cluny Continuous bobbin lace but also has some features of Bedfordshire! Very detailed and simply gorgeous with a delicate scalloped edge! There are some sewn-down pleats to make it contoured. Across the front yoke and up near the shoulders. It's lined in chiffon silk in ecru which lining goes past the shoulder embroidery.there is a bit of wear in the lining(see photos) SIZE Approximate measurements: If folded in two from top to bottom would be 24 inches; around the outer perimeter would be 45 inches; inside the neck is approximately 36 inches! CONDITION Excellent antique collar with no breaks that I can see in the lace although the lace is very delicate and tiny! As mentioned. The lining has a bit of wear! Antique Bedfordshire handmade lace lovely collar
Antique handmade lovely Bedfordshire lace nice size collar. It measures 27 inches( 68cm 5mm) around the inside edge then the front points go down 4&1/2 inches(11cm) by 7 inches(18cm) down centre back. There are a very very few very very minor pulls otherwise in good condition, nice work. It has been stored so could do with a light launder. A PRETTY VICTORIAN BEDFORDSHIRE BOBBIN LACE COLLAR & A SMALL JABOT - Hand Made
A very pretty Victorian hand made Bedforshire bobbin lace collar. Which has lappet shaped pieces at each end. It is 23" 58.5cm) long and 1 1/2" 4cm) deep at the back and the lappet pieces are 3" 7.5cm) deep. It is in very good vintage condition and I cannot see any breaks. There are two small areas of light discolouration. But the collar looks like it has had very little use. Also a small piece of jabot shaped tulle which is edged with hand made Bedfordshire lace. It is 6 1/4" 1 6 cm) long and 6" 15cm) wide. It is in very good vintage condition and shows no sign of use. I am happy to post abroad and always combine postage where ever possible. This is an unusual Bedfordshire lace collar. Neck measures 15 ins. Depth 2.5 ins. G ood condition. This piece is from a large collection I bought recently. Pair of Bedfordshire style bobbin lace cuffs from Nagercoil, India 19th C.
I am always very skeptical of labels on lace. They have to prove themselves before I believe. This one is at least plausible. According to Nagercoil history on the web. A lacemaking industry was indeed started there in the early 19th century by missionaries from Scotland. This certainly is a Bedfordshire style lace. Kinda like but not exact. Clothwork is half stitch with raised decorations. Braided bars. Continuous with the cloth work. Skinny, straight tallies. Edging a sort of version of the Beds nine-pin edge. All consistent with a small commercial industry designed to provide a bit of money for the poor women of the community. Pieces had to be simple and fast to make. The label was attached to another part of this group. Which seems to have been a collar and cuff set. Label went off with the collar, all that's left is the picture. ... moreThese are about 2 1/2 inches deep. About 8 1/2 inches in diameter. Good condition- usable either as cuffs. ANTIQUE 19THC HM DELICATE BRUSSELS LACE VEIL & FINE BEDFORDSHIRE MALTESE CUFF
This is for a delicately designed small applied Brussels bobbin lace veil with point fillings and a fine Bedfordshire Maltese lace cuff. The veil is very pretty with finely well done motifs and lovely point fillings. It however does have scattered small breaks to the delicate net. So NOT perfect, please see pics. The cuff is finely done and has a very delicate light quality. So a nice example of this type lace. It is in near perfect condition. With no stains or breaks, just a couple of loose threads at one end. The veil measure approx. 29" long x 19" at it's widest. The cuff is approx. 10" long x 3.25" at it's widest. Both are a soft white color. With the cuff perhaps slightly more creamy. Please feel free to ask any questions.

The colour is a soft off white. I have not washed these laces as I thought them to be clean enough to present. Condition is very good. ENGLISH BEDFORDSHIRE BOBBIN LACE COLLARS(2) 19TH CENTURY. The wider collar is 4 cms wide at its narrowest point. It features a design of acorns and leaves on a picoted bar ground. Circa 1870-90. The design is similar to pieces produced by the lace company of Thomas Lester. Bedford in the latter half of the 19th century. The narrow collar is 3.5 cms wide and features a repeating design of leaves. Circa 1860-80. There is a collar of identical design(attributed to Thomas Lester) in the collection of the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery. Bedford, illustrated in Anne Buck, Thomas Lester.
