My contacts had also stored away some fabulous things for me to rummage through. And I bought several large trunks of antique textiles and ephemera from two particular large country house estates. There are some real treasures hidden away in those dusty boxes! Today I am listing a few items to tempt you, and to give you an idea of the delights to come! The last photograph at the end of the listing is a quick“loot shoot” of some of the items I will be listing over the coming weeks… A very pretty fine hand appplique lace tulle capelet or shoulder shawl. Which would ... morelook wonderful worn over a strapless wedding dress- something old, something new! This dates to around 1890. It is in very good condition- freshly laundered and snowy white with no marks. I can spot one tiny repair that blends in with the applique work and is almost impossible to spot, but I mention it for accuracy. The capelet has a square back- 17cm deep, and measured around the top edge, this is 117cm. A lovely antique accoutrement that could be used to embellish, or wear with a very special dress. Lovely! Sweet vintage/antique Tambour Lace Boudoir Pillow. Exceptional detail on this delicate treasure! I purchased the pillow many years ago from the woman who bought it while on an antique hunting trip in Paris. Silk Pillow"form" that fills the pillow is a rose pink color and shows signs of age- could easily be swapped out for a new pillow form but thought the original should be sold with the lace cover- I love the"age" It gives it character in my humble opinion. See photos of the silk that has separated/ worn due to age. There is a water mark on the back of the pillow- on the silk` also shown in photo. Top of pillow- there are small"pulls" in the thread of the lace that I have captured in the photographs- I believe this can be overlooked as I have had it on display for many years on a velvet settee with other pillows ... moreand the"pulls" have not affected the overall look of the display. I find no holes in the lace on the pillow or lace trim that surrounds it. Pillow measures approximately 16.5" across(point to point) not including 3" lace trim- Back closure has 2 mother of pearl buttons. REMNAN OF NET LACE. This is for a lovely remnant piece of tambour net lace. Not sure if was once a valance or something to that effect, its got rough edges and seams on both side before the rough edges. There is some staining and some holes, I try to show in photos, however its great to use as a runner or to drape over something. Its a nice large piece. 1905 Antique Tambour Lace Long Panel 112" x 11" I am not exactly sure what this was used for, The embroidery goes right up the center with dainty turned in edge one side. And a scalloped embroidered edge on the other. Both ends are embroidered with a small scalloped edging. There some holes along the length I have tried to pick out in the pictures that need to be sewn. It is old and needs repair but is still a beautiful piece of Antique Tambour Lace. A pair of antique 19th century French tambour lace curtains in very good condition. About 126" long. 60" wide at lower hem and 39" at top pleated hem, the sizes are not exactly the same(about an inch difference) The 3½" deep top hem has been folded several times. Scalloped sides and hem. 7 fine brass curtain rings hand sewn into the pleated top hem. One has a pale storage mark on top hem. The other in the middle, photographed. Antique Victorian French Tambour Lace Wedding Bridal Dress Flounce
Here is an absolutely rare antique find in Tambour lace bridal flounces. It's just incredible to find one that is still intact. Strong yet delicate, and not disintegrated, dry, brittle and shattered. This one is a stunner, light as a feather and can be handled well with care. The flounce is circular measuring 108 inches in diameter, and for picture taking, I have gently pinned it to the bottom of a snowy white dress. It had been salvaged from a white silk wedding gown. The flounce was hand stitched along its upper edge to the silk as evidenced by the shattered fragments that remain. There is a pic of it with a pencil. The elaborate, detailed and aristocratic pattern of medallions and florals repeat among branches and scrolls. The center front measures 19 inches in length, and gradually increases around to the back where it ends up measuring ... more36 inches at its longest. It was completely brown from age and has been gently soaked to an off-white, almost pale ecru color. There are no stains. In close inspection, it has approximately 28 breaks to the net, out of what appears to be thousands, as this is a sizable piece. There is some damage at the bottom edge that measures 4 inches wide which you can see in a pic with the pencil. The breaks in the net can easily be stitched with a fine thread of the same color, and the damage to the bottom edge can be repaired in a number of creative ways if desired. There also appears to be a previous professionally repaired seam to the net as seen in the pic, but it could also be the original joining seam, it's hard to tell. Aside from these flaws, this flounce most definetly has continued life left to it as it displays and flounces gorgeously. Should be a museum piece. Simply a beauty! A pair of 19th century hand made tambour net curtains just over 24" long. Gathered into binding top and bottom. About 20" wide. The width(ungathered) is 30" across. One curtain has 9 fine brass rings top and bottom. The other 11. Both have two or three small holes and slight discoloration from storage. Have washed. Sun-dried and ironed, the marks have faded already. From the attics of a chateau brimming with 19th century fabric. A pair of antique French tambour lace on fine cotton curtains. The gathered tops measure about 44" 1.10cm wide. The bottom 90"1.50 m wide and about 22"61cm deep at longest scallop. The top is gathered into cotton tape with press studs on the wrong side. The top having a decorative binding almost an inch deep. The embroidery is beautiful and there is plenty of it. About 18" deep in each scallop and almost reaching the top of the curtain. Could also be used for dress making/wedding dress hems. Antique French Tambour Net Lace Pair Curtains Matching 118" Long Panel Set Lot A
This gorgeous pair of antique tambour lace panels are approximately 118" long and 37" wide. The rod pocket seams have come undone. So they are not finished at the tops and will be a little shorter once you turn the edges under to form the rod pocket. They would be great for a high ceiling room where more length is needed, or may be long enough for a standard size window with enough extra length to cut and to create valances from the excess at the tops! These panels are over 100 years old, so they have a lot of history which is reflected in the numerous small holes(most are rice sized, a few are pea sized, and there may be one kidney bean sized) some dark stains and soiling, darkening of the lace, and a few loose threads. There are some repairs to some of the tears/holes(one of the panels has a 5" repair to a tear) I have tried ... moreto get pictures of most of the worst of the defects between the two panels. They have not been washed. An imperfect pair of antique organdy curtains with tambour embroidered hem. The tambour embroidery is about 10½" deep with a scalloped tambour embroidered hem. The curtains are 44" wide and one 111" long. The other 112" 3" deep gathered ruflette(modern) across top of curtains. One curtain has storage marks. Beginning of hole at 4" from selvedge and 27" from top. 2 holes near selvedge in amongst the tambour.44" wide and 112" long. At 23" and 28" from top is an area of small holes. At 26" from selvedge and 28" from hem are 2 holes. An L shaped tear at selvedge and 23" from hem. There are also a few pin head holes nearby and some faint storage marks. Antique French tambour lace gathered curtain frill. Pelmet, valance covered in tambour embroidery. About 21" deep. 134" wide across scalloped hem and 78" across gathered top. 22 solid brass curtain rings. The top frill has been gathered into the cotton binding and hand sewn in place. The cornely/tambour embroidery has been sewn onto fine cotton"batiste" Freshly washed. Sun-dried and ironed. There is an uneveness in the colour. Some shades of blue white and some of creamy white. One or two storage marks remain but should disappear with washing. A small tear in the top frill. This is another 19th century tambour lace curtain from the chateau attics brimming with monogrammed linen. This barely off-white heart shaped pillow sham features an exquisite center pattern of an angel blowing a horn surrounded by branches of various florals. It is signed"Carlin" at the lower right side. The edging has a scrolling pattern of trailing vines. The net backing has three button closures and bears the original tag by Carlin Comforts. The sham accommodates an appx 12 x 12 inch heart shaped ... morepillow. There are some minor flaws, breaks in the net here and there, a couple of small previously stitched repairs to the net as seen in the pics with the pencil. Nothing major, no big holes or rips. The lace was completely brown from age and has been soaked immaculate. No lingering spots or stains. Simply a rare gorgeous piece!
