She is wearing a lovely mohair wig. She has bisque lower arms that are also free of any chips, cracks, hairlines or damage. What makes this doll even more special is that she is adorned with an array of magnificent antique lace. Her total height with the length of the lace included is 23 1/2 inches long. With out the lace she is 7 inches long. If you are looking for an eye catching special addition to your antique doll collection this would be the doll for you. We believe this to be some type of valenciennes lace with what looks like a sheer type ruched cotton organdy, 3 rows of valenciennes lace atop the ruched organdy that goes around the back and sides it is ecru light cream in color with age discoloration and a few stains/spots and a couple of small holes in the ruching the inside looks to be the ... moresame with a tear. This handmade black Maltese lace flounce/trim was almost certainly removed from a dress that dates to around 1870(please see the fashion plates below that show such trims on gowns dating to 1870 and 1871) I think the thread is linen. But am not entirely sure. The lace shows a continuous flower, foliage, swirl and Maltese cross design. The upper border is enclosed in black taffeta- all handstitched. This auction is for an exquisite antique French early 1900s embroidered fine silver metal embroidered net lace tulle textile fragment. It measures approximately 17" across(measured along bottom due to its stability) x 19" top-to-bottom e dge. There are a total of five full scallops. One on the very edge is slightly torn and only a small portion of metal lace. It is approximately 9 3/4" from top edge of embroidered dot to bottom edge of scallop ONLY(entire embroidered portion only) Each scallop from point-to-point is about 3 1/4" There are no other rips. Tears or stains aside from aforementioned flaw. The tulle ground is cotton with a very fine weave. The silver metal threads are NOT metallic, but metal, wrapped around a fine cotton thread. The scallops have a lovely sparkling quality and there is no tarnishing. This is ... morea very feminine and simply stunning lace fragment. Its dainty floral pattern throughout has small flowers in shades of pale blue, peach, etc. outlined with metal threads as well. All photos have been taken in natural light with no flash.
