Circa 1910. They were discovered on a local house clearance here in Brighton, still wrapped in the original brown paper package from Messrs. Mifsud, 140 Strada Santa Lucia, Valletta. Dates on this package are 1907 and 1909. I think this was probably brought back to England as a souvenir by a British serviceman in Malta during WW1. They are made of very fine linen. Trimmed with silk Maltese lace. Each one measures 25 cm. square. They have never been used, so condition is as new. Antique Alencon Needle lace Study Fragment -- Circa 1800
Interesting study piece of very old. Probably circa 1800, handmade Alencon needle lace with tortillees mesh in the top portion. The mesh in the area at the bottom, the"petit reseau" has been replaced with a machine net, and the final inch plus at the top has been replaced as well, with the original motifs appliquéd over the mesh. Interesting as a study piece to see how pieces were treasured. And mended over and over to keep them in use as long as possible. About 21 by 3 1/4 inches. Domestic shipping for this item is $2.00. Welcome to the Fabric. Lace& Trims Department. For dressmakers. Renovaters, collectors and those with a creative heart! I am honoured to have the advice of a lace collector of 30 years experience in my lace listings this week. HOWEVER. She is in a different country and bases her opinions on my images only. You must look at the images and decide for yourself. The generosity of the antique textiles expert continues to overwhelm me. Nowhere else will we find such help and support. Here is a band of narrow lace. Sewn with one seam. It belonged to the Hext family, and provenance will be sent with the sale. It came with some very fine 18th Century textiles{not available ... moreon Ebay} There is a note with the lace. Written in ink onto linen, that says it was a lappet, worn to the court of George ll. It didn't look anything like a lappet to me, so I consulted the Lace Mentor! Here is what she says: The lace is of course not a lappet and never was. It is a trimming lace. Typical good quality Brussels bobbin work from c. the 1740s. On the back you can see where threads pass over the flower motifs as they would be made first and then the net background worked in afterwards. As it has quite a lot of the Brussels net worked in, I don't think it is earlier. The Brussels net is almost identical to the Mechlin(Malines) net with four twisted and two plaited sides. Typical of Brussels work is also the tiny flat'tape' that surrounds the flower motifs. There are also some very attractive fillings. The lace even has its original footing, which is the tiny lace sewn on along the straight edge. I have seen two lengths of trimming lace sewn together along the straight edge(without footing of course) And gathered at the two ends to make a sort of'lappet' which I think was probably used as a sort of cravat, but obviously that has never b

Antique tambour net lace curtain panel about 46" wide and 72" long. Floral embroidery along left hand scalloped edge and across lower scalloped hem. About 4½" deep from scalloped edge and 5½" from bottom hem. Pale cream cotton inserts in the embroidery and in all of the small flowers. There are quite a few holes. Repairs and some unstitching, see photos) reflected in the price. An area(last photo) where someone took the trouble to repair the net in almost the same stitching. MARIA NIFOROS FINE ANTIQUE LACE. LINENS, TEXTILES CIRCA late 1800-early 1900's. the Brussels lace is earlier. part of a museum deaccession. This wedding dress has a Brussels lace on the bodice and sleeves and a enormous net skirt.This dress has been stored away and so would benefit from a nice wash and press. The lady was a very small size.we have put this on a young girls mannequin for now and will list measurements below. The dress could easily be altered if desired.We did not film the long train spread out, this measures apprx. 112" at the back.There are two layers with great volume in the net. The dress was donated to the museum by Joseph R.Grismer,early American actor, playwright and theatrical director. Item Measurements: Apprx. 60" shoulder down to edge at front. The back of the gown measures 112"Waist apprx. 23-24"across ... morechest.15"shoulder to shoulder apprx. 13-14" Item condition: In mainly good strong condition.The underarms have stains. after a wash they can always be removed.
