This is a long. Fine, bobbin applique lace flounce. I sold a shorter length of this lace a week or so ago. Sadly this piece is in fair condition only, with many scattered small holes and a fair amount of repairs. When gathered or draped these aren't too noticeable, so this is probably a piece for a dressmaker(would make a lovely wedding dress! rather than a collector. This is for a very interesting mid-18thc Brussels bobbin lace flounce. With birds! It is a very lovely fine lace. Finely worked, and of superior quality. This is from the"Pat Earnshaw Collection" Is as found, very soft and a creamy white color. It is in wonderful condition. But does have a few tiny pin hole in the ground, really minor. There also is the very lightest of age marks. Shown in pic 11. The length measures approx 66-67" x 3" This is really beautiful example. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Very old FLEMISH BOBBIN LACE DEEP FLOUNCE YARDAGE Collector study piece
Deep flounce of early- perhaps 17th century- Flemish bobbin lace. Large scale stylized floral and leaf motifs in typical Flemish style. Most likely was a furnishing lace of some sort. Or perhaps for church use. Very good study material, showing origins of raised work, and methods of carrying pairs throughout the lacemaking process. Huge size and length also shows very well the lavish use of handmade lace. Motifs are not cut at the top. So it probably is the original width. Many of the motifs are still in remarkably good condition, well formed, with original fillings, especially variations of five-hole ground. Many still surrounded by original bars. Condition overall is decent for such an old piece. Lots of mends and broken connecting bars and wear. As might be expected for lace centuries old. Freshly washed, and generally clean. Antique Handmade Milanese Bobbin lace deep flounce-Earnshaw Collection
Simple elegance is the hallmark of the design in this Milanese bobbin lace border. Design is continuous with the top edge. Very typical of old Milanese. A tiny edge has been added to the bottom with crochet-hook sewings as the lace was made. Just enough detail in the tapes lightens the motifs and gives movement and direction to the design. Background mesh is a torchon mesh. Pairs of threads twisted and crossed, with an occasion highlight of a tally-like device or point d'esprit. Very close sewings as the tapes turn to form the flower petals obscures the turns and makes very convincing rounded petals. Condition is quite good- some breaks in the mesh. And also breaks and mends in some of the flower centers. Has been freshly washed and is clean and light ivory white. Border is joined and continuous. Antique handmade bobbin lace flounce trim. Flemish? A length of handmade bobbin lace trim or flounce. Its old. But I dont know how old, or what type of lace it is, maybe Flemish? Im not sure what its made of either. But it has a soft drapey feel, and I feel it may be silk? The colour is natural ecru or beige. The lace itself appears to have been woven in smaller panels. That have been very carefully joined, almost invisibly(see line towards top of photo with tape measure) Some of these joins are coming undone- see second to last photo The length as a whole is made up of 4 parts of lace(of various lengths) Which have been sewn together.
