I believe it is Civil War era. I purchased a small collection from the Washington DC area about 15 yrs ago and this was part of the lace collection. On the inventory list this was listed as 1850s to 1870s. Straight bobbin lace. I believe it is Chantilly and HAND MADE BOBBIN as there is many variations of length of stitching etc. And I think if you look closely at the photos, it can be clearly seen as hand made. As you can see from the photos there are a couple of places on the edges where the lace has frayed a little however the main body of the stole appears to be free from damage. It came in the length it is and has not been cut. There are 2 tiny cut marks on edges(see pictures) otherwise it is in very good condition. A gorgeous black Chantilly lace lappet in very good. Antique condition. This wonderful piece is very light and has beautiful floral motifs worked along its entire length. Black lace was commonly worn for mourning purposes in the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly in England. The exact date of this particular piece is unknown but a lace expert may be able to offer further information. The lappet measures 144cms in length and 13cms at its widest point. This could be framed for display and added to a collection of antique textiles or could be worn as a modern accessory. It was part of a collection of lace and costumes accumulated by the late Sir David and Lady Barran of Brent Eleigh Hall in Suffolk. Very Pretty Antique Victorian Black Silk Chantilly Lace x 3 Lengths
A lot of 3 lengths of late 19th century French black silk chantilly lace. The first design is slightly deeper at 14.5cm and this single length measures 76cm. The other two pieces are the same design. Slightly narrower at 10.5cm and both measure 110cm long each. All 3 pieces are in very good condition, with only a couple of tiny holes in the net that can be found. From a non~smoking home. Beautiful Antique Black Chantilly lace Style Over Skirt Welcome to my shop! A beautiful antique late Victorian/ Early Edwardian black Chantilly lace lace overskirt. The lace is machined and is very intricate in design. The lace motifs are reminiscant of the type seen on black lace shawls. The over skirt sits open with both edges of the opening having a decorative edging. As in a lace shawl, the same can be said for the hem line. The skirt is made of one continuous piece of lace, there are no seams or joins. The top of the skirt has been gathered on 3 rows of thread and set into a petersham waistband with hook and eye closings. Amazingly. There is no fading whatso ever to the lace, and only a few small holes here and there, nothing of any great significance, nor that poses a threat to the surrounding lace. The holes are difficult to spot as ... morethey get lost in the gathers of the skirt. This is another piece that was aquired from a retired BBC Costumier. I do sometimes wonder if I will ever get around to listing the last pieces, butthere are simply boxes and boxes or delights to be sorted! This is a large black Chantilly Lace Shawl from the late 1800's. It is triangular shape with scalloped edges. I has a lovely floral motif. It measures 105 inches across the top and is 54 inches long at the v. Condition is good with about 6 small breaks in lace netting.There are 2 more noticeable- 1 thumbprint and 1 fingertip size on the middle of the back. See pics with ball point pen tip at reference.
