This atlas contains 35 maps and must be very scarse as we found only one auction record and no other sales references. Collector's item. Transl. New Atlas for the traveller of the 17 Provinces of the Low-Countries. by Mr. Sanson. Geographer of the King. Artists and Engravers: Mapmaker: Nicholas Sanson d'Abbeville(1600-1667) and his descendents were important French cartographer's active through the 17th century. Sanson started his career as a historian where. It is said, he turned to cartography as a way to illustrate his historical studies. In the course of his research some of his fine maps came to the attention of King Louis XIII who, admiring the quality of his work, appointed Sanson'Geographe Ordinaire du Roi' Sanson's duties in this coved position included advising the King on matters of Geography and compiling the royal cartographic archive. Sanson's corpus of some three hundred maps initiated the golden age of French Cartography. Publisher: Pieter und David Mortier were booksellers in Paris and have published a wide range of geographical works. After Pieter's death, his widow continued the business until their son Cornelius took over. Cornelius started a partnership with his brother-in-law Johannes Covens and established the famous publishing house'Covens and Mortier' 1685-1866) in Amsterdam. Most likely this company was the largest map trader of his days. Thousand of maps were brought on the international market by Covens& Mortier, often edited from earlier sources and all members of this firm were gifted with a great commercial talent. From the fabulous to the humble. A touch of the past to enjoy! So. The story behind this large tapestry is that I bought a group of textiles from the attic of a grand country home, and this was amongst them. I thought I knew what it was immediately. But didn't dare to sell it without confirmation, so I sent some images to a top London Museum with a textile department. Based on the images. And not examined by hand, they confirmed that this was probably a 17th Century tapestry, and based on the tree's and village in the background, very likely to be Flemish as this was common to Flemish work. If whole and in good conditon. These tapestries have sold for £10,000 plus in recent times! This is neither whole. Or in good condition SO PLEASE READ AND STUDY THE PHOTOS WITH CARE! Personally. I find it so compelling that I would say it could be immediately framed just as it is, with all the faults. It is the type of image that would look fabulous in an all white empty room, certainly dramatic enough! But it has suffered greatly. As you can see. The main piece has a male face to one side. The second piece has his hand[s] and foot, but there is nothing to connect them. I think that second piece could only be used to support renovation of the main piece. The tapestry has broken in strips of approx 2-3" horizontally in many places. Some areas have escaped. But not many. I would say that some of the repair work to re-join these strips is good and certainly not easy to see if you are a non-expert like me. There are many more still to be done. The lower half. Including the town, is far better than the upper part. Look at the back and it is clear that a loose woven canvas was added to the back. On which some of the repair work could be done. This wa

This needlepoint originally had a subject in the center however it was so large. Too large to make into a pillow so I cut out the center and made two pillows. Hopefully they will remain together. Please see mate sold separately. I used a black velvet for the center and framed it with a 1.5” wide antique French vestment trim which had never been used before(NOS) The needlepoint border is approx. 3” wide and is in excellent condition. The colors are vivid;green. Beige, gray, plum, rose, blue and more on a black background. I finished the pillow off with two trims, one is a black tassel trim and on top of that I used a black onion and beaded trim to give it some sparkle. This trim also matches the mate. This one of a kind pillow measures approx. 24” x 24” There is a zipper closure for your convenience and a down and feather insert for a plush look and feel. The entire pillow is lined for extra durability. This pillow will surely last at least another hundred years if treated with care. It was meant to be an heirloom. to be treasured and past down to future generations. I am selling this pillow separately but I have photographed it with it’s mate. They are both in excellent newly created condition and come from a smoke free home. Either one or both pillows would add much character and charm to any room or decor they grace. Beautiful Fine Brussels Lace around the edges and in the Four Corners. Net infill's with Flowers Embroidered on the net. This Handkerchief was probably a Wedding Handkerchief and the centre is made from the Finest Cotton Lawn. There is two flaws in the Lawn that I have noticed. One a pinhead size dot which is on the wrong side which is not visible on the right side, and a fine feint brown line about 1" long, there is a tiny pinhead size wear in this line, a hole in the net in one of the corners and a smaller hole where the Lace has been pulled up on the net in another corner. I have been told that it is brussels lace but I dont know for sure as I am not a lace expert. When measured laid flat the outer edge diameter is 25 ins. The inner edge diameter is 12 ins and the width is 6.5 ins. approximately. I think it is Brussels lace but I am not sure as I am not a lace expert. It is certainly the most beautiful lace collar I have seen. It would look wonderful framed and hung on a wall. ANTIQUE 19THC HM DELICATE BRUSSELS LACE VEIL & FINE BEDFORDSHIRE MALTESE CUFF
This is for a delicately designed small applied Brussels bobbin lace veil with point fillings and a fine Bedfordshire Maltese lace cuff. The veil is very pretty with finely well done motifs and lovely point fillings. It however does have scattered small breaks to the delicate net. So NOT perfect, please see pics. The cuff is finely done and has a very delicate light quality. So a nice example of this type lace. It is in near perfect condition. With no stains or breaks, just a couple of loose threads at one end. The veil measure approx. 29" long x 19" at it's widest. The cuff is approx. 10" long x 3.25" at it's widest. Both are a soft white color. With the cuff perhaps slightly more creamy. Please feel free to ask any questions.

I recently bought an interesting collection of lace edgings and flounces from the collection of the late Susan Cox who founded the Tiverton lace school. Although some are quite short I shall list them all separately- if you buy more than one I will combine postage. This is a fine bobbin lace length. I think probably Brussels, but couldn't say for sure. Unwashed, a mid ivory colour. Very good condition, possibly unused, both edges finished. 33.5 ins long, 5 ins wide.

The length of Valencienns is in very good condition. The others are at best in fair condition. The measurements are approx. 60" x 1 1/4" for the Valenciennes. This delightful border dates from about the 1780s. The very fine bobbin net has some mends but these are so well done they do not distract from the overall design. This is a beautiful fine but delicate antique lace flounce in a very long length worked in a wonderfully intricate floral design It is a great length. Approximately 250 ins by 13.5 ins(635 cms by 34 cms) Unfortunately there are some brown marks which needs to be removed and I do not know how to remove them. There are also some very small holes, none of them serious. Please study photographs which form an important part of description. Although there are quite a number of brown marks, on one side there is a piece of 7 feet and a piece of 5 feet which have no brown marks. This is a very beautiful length of lace which I have been told is brussels lace but I am not an expert. I am always happy to combine shipping in order to save on costs.

Yardage of mid 19th Brussels bobbin lace appliqué on fine machine made cotton tulle. Seems to have been rescued from a gown- is still attached to a deep border of fine cotton machine tulle. Condition is very decent and usable. Found six seams plus some tears and holes in the Brussels appliqué lace. Others in the attached border of fine cotton antique machine net. The seams were not particularly elegantly sewn- certainly could be improved, although care was taken to match up pattern repeats. Would benefit from being taken apart and reworked- lots and lots of good material. Including the quantity of fine cotton tulle. Brussels bobbin lace appliqué lace is about 3-3 1/2 inches deep. A few dark storage spots, a large water stain(2nd last photo) and some holes(last photo) Some hooks are attached along one end, but I don't think this lace was ever used. Elaborate and wonderfully pretty!

London c 1895 Brussels Belgium lace fine hand worked Brussels+ Point De gaze intricate late Victorian baby christening gown The gown has a worked bodice and sleeves and deep worked skirt all as shown. With silk and net edged slip below length is a 35" length and 9.5" flat across the front chest underarm The dress lace is almost as worked with hardly any flaws and is in remarkable condition for the age and has been carefully stored.there are small button fastening to rear and a couple of teeny pin holes in under silk slip the point de gaze leaves are raised and worked in delicately. And the edge is fine. Given the clearly classic design of the gown it could be used for a boy or girl.
