It is not perfect ~ the main issue being a smattering of small holes in the net. Along with a split in the header and a few nicks along the top. There are a few age spots, although you have to look quite hard at the piece to see them. This is an ideal collector's piece, for study purposes or could be cut into smaller sections for framing. It could also be used for reworking into costume items. Despite the flaws, which I describe for complete accuracy in the description, it is still a most beautiful piece of hand worked lace, exceptionally decorative and becoming rare to find in any condition! Antique handmade Belgian Point d Gaz Needle Lace Astounding fabulous piece! 15" sq. Or 38cm. The mesh on this type of lace is so fine it breaks with"mere breathing on it" Well over 100 years old.1850s. it is a marvel of fine handspun linen thread and near miraculous hand buttonhole stitches everywhere Just the tiniest bit of wear on the linen center. Look very closely and you will see that every every every. Thing is hand buttonhole stitches. the outlines are not just cord sewn down to net, they are multiple strands buttonholed into position with the lightest touch. there is plenty of airspace between the stitches on the outlines. Stunning Antique Point de Gaze Needle Lace Large Collar c.1870 Rare Ex Cond.
A beautiful lace collector's item. c1870 Point de Gaze needle lace very large collar. Beautifully worked and in excellent condition. I can detect no obvious stains or holes and the colour is the original soft cream. It does have a join in the lace which may be completely original to the piece or has been done at some time in its life, but is expertly done and is not a new'repair' ~ it may actually be an intentional and inherent characteristic. It is is not obvious and you have to look very hard to see it. The pattern is exquisite ~ highly intricate and decorative, it makes a wonderful display item.
