ANTIQUE 19THC HM DELICATE BRUSSELS LACE VEIL & FINE BEDFORDSHIRE MALTESE CUFF
This is for a delicately designed small applied Brussels bobbin lace veil with point fillings and a fine Bedfordshire Maltese lace cuff. The veil is very pretty with finely well done motifs and lovely point fillings. It however does have scattered small breaks to the delicate net. So NOT perfect, please see pics. The cuff is finely done and has a very delicate light quality. So a nice example of this type lace. It is in near perfect condition. With no stains or breaks, just a couple of loose threads at one end. The veil measure approx. 29" long x 19" at it's widest. The cuff is approx. 10" long x 3.25" at it's widest. Both are a soft white color. With the cuff perhaps slightly more creamy. Please feel free to ask any questions.

This is for 3 very fine antique laces. The first being a narrow scalloped border of 19thc handmade Valenciennes lace. The second a length of 19thc Brussels applied lace with a delicate design of floral and foliage. The third being 2 fragments of a very fine silk machine made lace with a lovely pattern of flowers. The length of Valencienns is in very good condition. The others are at best in fair condition. The measurements are approx. 60" x 1 1/4" for the Valenciennes. For the Brussels applied approx. 52" x 4. with a loose join in the middle. For the silk fragments approx. 12" long each x 8" at the widest. STOMACHER This is a beautiful little panel of antique mixed Brussels Duchesse lace(a mixture of mostly bobbin lace with a central panel of needle lace) I think it would have been a little stomacher or modesty panel. It is made from linen thread. The condition is good overall. Patinated to a pale creamy'tea' shade with a few tiny marks. A pretty piece for a collection. Mid 19thC antique Brussels application lace fall cap for crinoline dresses I have a refund policy. Please read the details at the foot of this page. English speakers only please. Welcome to the Fabric. Lace& Trims Department. For dressmakers. Renovaters, collectors and those with a creative heart! I am honoured to have the advice of a lace collector of 30 years experience in my lace listings this week. HOWEVER. She is in a different country and bases her opinions on my images only. You must look at the images and decide for yourself. The generosity of the antique textiles expert continues to overwhelm me. Nowhere else will we find such help and support. Here is a good example of'Buyer Beware! Although a pretty piece of cotton Brussels lace application. I actually bought it labelled as'18th Century Point de Argentan' It didn't ... moreappear 18th Century to me. So I asked the lace mentor. I notice that the fall cap has a sewn-on label saying'Point d'Argentan' That is idiocy and should be removed. Argentan is an extremely fine and expensive 18th century French needlepoint with a buttonholed mesh. This is a mid-19th century Brussels cotton bobbin lace of ordinary quality applied on machine-made net. So there we have it! Having said that. The fall cap is pretty and in good condition. Mid 19th Century, it would have been worn with the crinoline dresses of the period. It would either be worn alone indoors, or underneath a bonnet outdoors. Very clean and fresh appearance but with minor spotting of stain[will probably rinse out] and there may be some broken bars that I cannot identify. Have a good look at the pictures. Other than that. Just two tiny holes close together in the ground. Perfectly wearable or nice to display. The'lappets' are quite long and make a statement. Pl ease do take a look in my shop if you have the time! The borders and cording are very well made and the over all piece is delicate and fine but with wonderful detail and definition. This piece and others like it take enormous amounts of time and expertise to produce a work like this. It is either French or Belgian in origins. Sometimes it is difficult to tell. Techniques, designs and threads were typically used throughout Europe by the best lace makers. It is an amazing skill and not easy to learn. Size: 89 inches by 12 inches
