Antique/vintage Carrickmacross lace collar with Limerick fillings. c. 1840
This is a fascinating Carrickmacross lace collar w ith varied Limeri c k fillings c. 1840. Sadly it is short of good condition- there are several areas of wear and small repairs. This piece is from a large collection I bought recently. Which once belonged to the late Pat Earnshaw, lace expert and author of many books on the subject. It is featured in her book- Lace in Fashion(Batsford 1985) page 86. I will be listing more wonderful pieces from the collection in the next few weeks.

Antique pretty Carrickmacross lace small shoulder cape or could be used as a large collar. It measures 15 inches(38cm) around the neck then the plaited ties. Down centre back just under 17&1/2 inches(44cm) there are a few small pulls in the net and lace edge otherwise in good condition, looks like it was made up from something else. And were waiting to be unpacked when I returned from France last week. I am slowly sorting everything out, and will be listing the contents over the next few weeks– shawls, lace, linen(I have several antique linen banqueting cloths that are perfect for Thanksgiving and Christmas) Victorian costume and other treasures, so do keep looking! Sadly. This very beautiful late 19th century Carrickmacross lace has many holes, so is only suitable only for smaller projects. It came from a country estate in Ireland. The lace measures 575cm x 40cm, and is currently a wonderful oyster colour.The top edge is raw, whilst the bottom has beautiful floral ... morescallops. Length And Collar Of Antique Cream Carrickmacross Lace(Length 99" Cream Antique Carrickmacross Lace. A Good amount of Cream Carrickmacross Lace. Applied Motif's on a Net Background, Collar has a Small amount of Guipure along the edge. This piece was originally a Large Bertha and I seperated the Collar from the Frill with a view to using the Lace in another project which I am not likely to do now so I am listing the Two Pieces which were joined together. The Collar which is damaged and photographed entirely measures approx. 17" across. 37" around the outside edge, 25" inside the Neck and 4" Deep at the back of the Neck. There are some feint brown marks and holes. The Length is approx. 99" Long and just under 4" deep. The first 19" of the length is approx. 5" deep and the last 15" is approx. ... more5" deep. This would have been shaped to fit around the top part of the Collar. This Length has been photographed the whole Length. It does have damage so please take time to view the photographs. This Lace is Very Pretty with applied Leaves and Flowers. Very Detailed and is a Lovely example of Carrickmacross Lace. Could have uses in other projects of just kept as an example of Irish Lace. Nice piece of Antique Carrickmacross Guipure lace- Excellent condition. And quite clean. Probably never washed, as it looks quite sharp and not crinkled or puckered. When flat. It looks like it wants to be a circa 1900 standing collar- but does not want to work quite as well on a mannequin. They did, however wear their collars rather snug. Nevertheless a good study piece for a collector or lacemaker. 13-14 inches long. About 2 1/2 in. wide center front, about 3 1/4 at the ends. Domestic shipping for this item is $3.00. 2 stunning antique 19th century embroidered tulle Carrickmacross + French doilies. From a family collection, as well as linen and lace, Victorian and Edwardian costume and accessories from a country house estate in SW Scotland, and some of the unusual items I acquired at the auctions I attended across the UK recently. I am also laundering and sorting out the remaining boxes of textiles and treasures from France- including some fabulous antique fabrics for projects. My fist buying trip to France this Spring is now organized– and my contacts have all received a long“wish list” 2 beautiful antique tulle whitework embroideries: a French fond de bonnet- bonnet crown. Hand embroidered with dense stitching, and an Irish Carrickmacross ... moretulle and appliqe work lace doily. The square doily measures 35cm x 35cm. it is in excellent condition, with no damage that I can spot. The bonnet crown is also in good condition, with just a couple of pinprick breaks in the tulle. Large and pretty 19th Century Irish Carrickmacross pelerine. Or large cape-like collar with long front ends. Very nice meandering floral scrolling design. Condition is very decent. Considering its age. A few little holes in the net. Mostly not especially visible. One pea-sized on the shoulder. seems to be the bigest. A couple of frays along the cloth. Also some fraying along the picot outside edges. Some of what appears to be a reinforcing line of stitching along the neckline. Still very usable. Sadly, it was never completed but it does give a most interesting insight into how this type of lace is made. One end is completely finished, with the infill stitches in the butterflies. Then we come to a section with the main part of the applique design finished but not the infill stitches; then as we go along, fewer of the stages have been completed, leading us to the far end with the design just on the paper pattern. This would be a good piece for a collection ... moreor to use as a teaching aid. A lace-maker may even want to take up the challenge of finishing it ~among other things, you'd need a pair of small, sharp scissors& a very steady hand! Item Description& Condition: Victorian/ Edwardian Lace Pelerine/ Cape- Carrickmacross Guipure I believe that the main part of the Pelerine's lace may be called Carrickmacross Guipure with motif inserts and that the collar may be chemical lace. However I am not very familiar with these laces so please study the photos carefully to make up your own mind. The Collar has an extra narrow band of lace just around the neckline- this may be to give it a bit of support? As you can see from the ... morephotos the collar could if desired stand up a little or fold over as usual. If the first is desired perhaps a little starch will help it for a stiffer efffect. However, it has also been made from three sections so it may be possible that it could have had bones originally? There is a hook and eye at the neck. In my opinion it is in very good used condition. No major damage- the eye needs a few stitches to tighten and there are a number of mainly minor issues commensurate with usage. I have shown a few examples which were spotted whilst taking the photos. Size: I am unsure how to measure this for a bust size. The model is a 32" bust. approx. 22.50" deep. 17.50" neckline. It is made up as appliquéd fabric edged with a silk cordonnet on machine made net with a square ground. I think it is either later 19th centyry or early 20th century. The condition is mostly good. A beautiful creamy white Art Nouveau. Hand made Carrickmacross appliqué lace stole or wrap. It has an Art Nouveau design of flowers and leaves. At each end and smaller designs of shamrock and flower groups in the centre. The wrap is 89" 226cm) long x 10" wide and in very good vintage condition, with two small, very light spots, but I haven't seen any breaks. There is no sign of the wrap having been used, but it had storage marks, so was gently washed. I am happy to post abroad and always combine postage where ever possible. Antique Carrickmacross Lace 211 inch length which is just 5 inches short of 6 yards by 16 inches deep/width. all one single length. I think this amazing. The work involved is staggering. The needle lace fillings are lovely and varied and every bride is buttonholed with a picot. I cant be absolutely sure but its possible that more than one lacemaker worked on this length but certainly no noticeable joins. I am selling this"as found" used. Unwashed and untouched. This is an exquisite wide Carrickmacross edging lace with lovely scrolling floral motifs and finely worked infills. It is 280cm long and 12cm wide- perfect for wedding projects or other special couture garments. It is in near pristine condition- there may be a tiny broken bride I have missed, but I cannot spot any damage. It appears never to have been used- the ends of the edging have not been cut. I have not laundered this, but it is celan, with no marks or stains. Beautiful Victorian Carrickmacross lace! More photographs below PLEASE READ.
