This Handkerchief was probably a Wedding Handkerchief and the centre is made from the Finest Cotton Lawn. There is two flaws in the Lawn that I have noticed. One a pinhead size dot which is on the wrong side which is not visible on the right side, and a fine feint brown line about 1" long, there is a tiny pinhead size wear in this line, a hole in the net in one of the corners and a smaller hole where the Lace has been pulled up on the net in another corner. For sale absolutely mint. Outstanding, unused victorian torchon lace. The length is incredible: 11 yards and 7 inches long. The width is about 2.25 inches. I believe, the style is torchon bobbin lace. It is 100% linen, I guarantee(I can tell the difference)The color is pure white. I was my great grandmothers, and it is been in the family for a long time. This lace was folded in her closet for so many years. She brought it from Belgium more then a century ago. Attending several auctions. The most exciting was perhaps an auction in Northumberland– the entire contents of a stately country mansion called The Hermitage. Time had stood still in this large Georgian house(I have posted a photograph of the house at the bottom of each listing of items acquired from this estate) and diaries and household accounts gave insight into a bygone age of spectacular house parties and entertaining on a grand scale. Amongst the treasures I am listing this week are several pieces of wonderful 19 th century wedding lace. Ribbons, buttons etc. as well as some lovely Victorian costume items. I am working my way through the boxes, ... morelaundering, inspecting, photographing and listing! Do keep looking… From The Hermitage(I am listing some wonderful lace from this estate sale this week) An exquisite Victorian(circa 1880) Brussels handmade Duchesse lace wedding handkerchief. Which was found rolled in blue tissue paper. I have carefully laundered it, and it is snowy white, with no marks, stains or damage of any kind. Such exquisite handkerchiefs were usually reserved for weddings, but sadly, there were no marriages in the family that lived in this stately home after 1914. This handkerchief appears never to have been used, and there are no initials embroidered on to it. It measures 33cm x 33cm. The lace is exquisite, and the finest silk and linen lawn centre is also without damage. A museum quality lace handkerchief with provenance- unique and stunning. More photographs below. Lapel-style Brussels handmade lace. A combination of Duchesse bobbin lace and Point de Gaze needle lace inserts. White color. Clean. Has been washed. Very good condition, a few of the usual breaks. The Point de Gaze insert in the center back has a very small hole(see pictures) the other two look fine. No apparent stains. Long front ends are about 3 3/4 inches wide at the bottom ends. Center back about 6 inches across. About 3 inches deep. Lapels about 15-16 inches long. Total lengthbout 39 inches long in the inside edge tip to tip. We believe this is a cover that would have been laid atop a pillow(not a pillowcase/sleeve) It may also have been used atop a vanity or table. My father didn't recognize it and thinks it belonged to my great grandmother which means it may have been created in the UK or come from somewhere else in Europe. Because of this. We think it dates late 1800s to early 1900s. We are not lace experts, but my sister has sewn for many years and is confident this is handmade. Measures 25"x17" A few very small stains as indicated in photo. It was hiding in my grandmother's(b.1896) family steamer trunk for well over 70 years along with blouses. I don't know how to describe this because I not sure I know who made them or where it was made. My grandmother was from Germany but I don't think it is old enough to be hers. My grandfather was a Graf Von waldek and lived in a castle in Germany. I think this was made for their first daughters. Caroline, wedding. Maybe it is Brussels lace. I have looked at any pictures and this looks like Brussels lace. If I wrong. Please educate me. The cap is trimmed with wax flowers. The train is a real train. I think cathedral. This veil and head piece are fragile. The should may not have been worn by this se bride. They could have been marys. Doris's, frances, June, jeans, nells, Lois's or Caroline's. Vintage Antique Lace Brussels Duchesse Point de Gaze Handmade BIG Bertha collar
This is a BIG. Beautiful collar or table centerpiece. Originally a circle, it unfortunately is now in 3 pieces which can be put together. The lace is fabulous. All handmade. Most likely from turn of the 19-20th century. I am not an expert in types of lace. I am making my best guess in the title. But it is handmade without question, 3-dimensional, and fabulous. The leaves stick out and above the body of the lace. Hard to see in the pictures. Check the pictures carefully for the dimensions. I have laid out measuring tapes on the lace. No brown spots. Perfumes, smells, or problems- except the tears. Totally fabulous. Even if you didn't sew the pieces together, the biggest piece would make a terrific statement. They will ... moremake a perfect gift to a lady who loves antique lace. In my photos I set the gloves on a red sweater. I put orange tissue paper inside them, and I displayed them on my mannequin. This auction is for the gloves only. The blue Oscar De La Renta sweater and crystal Chanel belt are not included in this auction, but they are listed separately. I am selling the gloves at below my cost just to move them during the holidays. I think these gloves would best fit a small-sized hand. I am 5' 1-1/2" and the hands fit me perfectly, but there is room in their width in the forearms and upper arms to fit someone who is a little heavier than I am. If these gloves fit too loosely on you, I would suggest adding very thin elastic at the gloves' upper edge, or you can do a tiny basting stitch to gather them slightly for a perfect custom fit. On the back side of the wrist it appears there is a place to add cuff links or a chain link attached to two buttons, for example, and can be added to make the gloves fit more securely around the wrist. This superb lace piece is a high quality 3-dimensional Point de Gaze needle lace with the buttonhole stitches and raised outlines. The lace is in excellent condition with an exception of a small break as shown in one of the pictures. The color is as shown with age. It measures 18 inches across and 6 inches deep. I decided to spend last week on a mini buying trip- visiting all my contacts in the North of England and Southern Scotland. I managed to find some beautiful Victorian and Edwardian items– amongst other treats, a collection of silk shawls, fabulous buttons, Victorian christening gowns from an estate in Northumberland, and some stunning hand stitched Durham quilts. I also had a delivery from France, so February begins with a rather splendid mixture of French, Scottish and English treasures… enjoy browsing! A long length of the most beautiful handmade Brussels mixed Point de Gaze lace. Measuring 261cm x 15cm. It is freshly(and VERY carefully) laundered, with no marks or stains. I can spot around 6 breaks in the net ground(see last 3 images) but it is otherwise in excellent condition. Perfect for special wedding dress projects, this handmade Victorian lace is exquisite!
