A beautiful piece of antique. Hand made, Irish Crochet lace, lovely quality work with intertwining floral design. I am unsure if the creamy-white thread is cotton or fine linen. Appears unused. The only faults are three places where there are very small, faint brown age marks, these are intermittent along the length& really show more on the reverse. This meant that many did not get much use. It has been decorated with exquisite white punch work floral bouquets at each corner. A ladder work border and pretty pointed hand crochet lace with a stylised flower pattern. A classical timeless elegant piece perfect for a period inspired home. Two of the opposite corners are embellished with a horseshoe shape of punch work leaves and flowers with more leaves and flowers flowing from either side. Vintage Cotton Irish Hand Crochet Jabot, Belt, Hair piece? Perfect White Ecru
Please look at pictures! These are vintage/antique. So not new. They are old and likely have been worn or used. Vintage and antiques will have signs of age and fabrics may show some discoloration due to dust and former use. I have tried to accurately describe my items. Perfect White Ecru ~ I am not sure if this is true Irish Crochet– but both pieces have little double flowers which are seen on Irish pieces. ~ There are no flaws at all in these two pieces. They are well made. ~ Both have the same motif of 3 flowers in a triangular pattern at the end ~ The flowers at both ends of the belt ... moreare on the same side of the length ~ The other piece I assume is a jabot. The jabot has a dainty dot pattern going up the middle. The 3 flowers at each end are on opposite sides of the length. ~ You could be crafty and come up with any number of uses for these– pulls. Hair pieces such as headbands, the jabot stitched over ribbon or a necklace and worn as jewelry. See Pinterest.com for lots of ideas. Crocheted belts are in style. This item was purchased at an East Coast auction sometime ago and was found along with other items of the same era(Edwardian) The auction house disclosed the bedspread as"Crochet Irish Lace" I am not an expert in the area of doilies. Lace, etc. so I leave the final identification to the knowledgeable bidder/buyer. It is a beautiful piece that perhaps. In my judgment formed part of a bridal trousseau. I am sure it is a bedspread because the tassels are found on 3 sides only. The overall condition is good. But may need some restoration since some of the brides have separated. I have pondered long and hard over the origin of the animal depicted. I expected it to be either a lion or a dragon. However. After quite some research I have determined that it is either an iconic symbolic guardian lion dog from Japan which guard the Shinto shrines or a Snow lion which is the emblem of Tibet. These figures are sacred and regal and have different symbolic meanings in ancient cultures. I am no expert and apologise ... moreif I am wrong. It is. However, a beautiful quality piece carefully and precisely worked with a large filet lace inlay dominating the centre. This rectangular table centre has a centre of fine linen with a pulled thread edged hem and a wide band of the best Irish crochet I have had for a long time. It is beautifully worked using the traditional raised roses and leaves of clones lace joined with chains and picots. It measures approx 65 cms by 42 cms. I have washed and pressed this table centre and I can't find any breaks in the crochet. The linen has two marks(pic 8) which shouls come out with a soak. Happy bidding and good luck. I think this came from my grandmother who acquired a large amount of lace from an Irish woman in Boston who had many samples of lace for her dress making business. There is a large oval centre with a butterfly outlined in punch work with embroidered flowers on each wing at either end. This is a classically elegant piece crafted from silky smooth linen with a beautiful V shaped hand crochet lace and linen flap. As with all these antique pieces the hand crochet has been attached with tiny intricate and almost invisible hand stitches. The inside has been neatly finished with a neat French seam on two sides and a folded edge ... moreon the third.
