The new year began well– I was offered the fabulous contents of a Victorian linen cupboard and a family collection of lace from a local estate. I also acquired lots of new stock from two wonderful antique textile auctions- one in SW England and another in Yorkshire. I am continuing to list these items as soon as I have laundered and inspected them– lace, shawls, Edwardian and Victorian costume, a collection of buttons etc. Happy browsing! This is a lovely triangular antique tambour lace shawl. Veil or mantilla- snowy white and freshly laundered, with no marks or stains. There is a sprinkling of tiny holes(last photograph) ... morebut these are relatively easy to mend with a well placed stitch. the floral scrolling motifs and polka dots mean that your stitches can be disguised as little flowers. This could be worn over a strapless wedding dress, or even worn as a wedding veil- I have shown it worn in two different ways. The long edge is 210cm long, and the point at the back is 44cm long. As you can see from the photos there are a couple of places on the edges where the lace has frayed a little however the main body of the stole appears to be free from damage. Lovely and White Schiffli Type Lace Stole/Scarf with lots of Embroidery on a Net background. This Piece is machine made, As can be seen from the many photographs the Embroidery virtually covers the whole length with a heavier type White Embroidery at both ends, this gives a little bit weight so it lies Nicely. This Stole/Scarf measures approx. 92" Long, 14-1/2" both ends at the front and 13-1/4" centre back of the neck. A lovely Embroidered Piece and Very suitable for a Wedding ect. Nothing of any note apart from the joins made by the Schiffli machine on the back where the heavy Embroidery joins the Tulle background. These are about 2" long each side, this is not a fault but ... morehow the piece has been constructed, I have examined the piece and can see nothing obvious. I believe this was taken off clothing. Possibly a bustle or other draping on a garment. It is one long continuous length with one sewn seam 42 inches into the length and there is an invisible join(common to larger pieces of this lace) running lengthwise in the entire piece. The small split shown on one end is where the join has slightly separated. It is gathered at both ends. Which could be opened up. 42 inches from one end still has the header and is wider at 8-1/2 inches. The next 10 inches at the center has a rather ragged edge(shown) and is 3-1/2 inches wide. The next 40 inches in length ... moredoes not have a header and is approximately 7 inches wide, with an unfinished edge. The overall length as is measures a little over 90 inches. Because this came to me this way. I did not want to separate it. However, one could probably take the seam out and separate the piece with the header. It's hard to find this lace. And harder still to find it in this size and length. The lace is untreated and would clean up well, there is one tan spot and it's overall light but shows signs of storage. I don't normally soak out lace unless the stain is going to seriously degrade the threads. That's not the case with this, so I will leave it up to the new owner. BLACK LACE LAPPET with a beautiful floral design. This lace probably dates from the mid to late 19th Century. It appears to be an early machine-made silk Chantilly or Blonde style lace. With extensive hand work. All the dark brown outlining threads were darned in by hand. The lappet is 8” 20cm) wide and 53 ½”136cm) long. It is in excellent condition with only minor flaws.

Long black machine lace stole - Edwardian -
A vintage black machine lace scarf/stole dating. I think, from the Edwardian era. It measures 104" long x 20" wide. The edges are scalloped. The stole is in good condition for its age, but the last 3 pictures show three small holes- there is also about 1/2" nick in the hem each end. I think the thread is a silk mixture. I can combine postage on multiple purchases.

Antique Victorian Wedding French Alencon Lace Silk Train Veil Stole Shawl 75"
Up for Sale a Superb Antique Ivory Victorian Edwardian Bridal Veil Stole. Description: Stole is made out of silk satin. I believe this fabric is called liquid silk. Trimmed with a fabulous wide soft French lace. Stole is double lined with a light silk chiffon as shown in pic# 7. Head end as shown in pic 4. While pic 5 shows the reverse side. Pic 5 shows the two sides of the stole. Measurements: 75" long 15" wide on one end 24 wide at bottom end Center part of veil is 25" wide. Alencon trim lace is 3" wide Condition: One tiny spot on the trim as seen in pic 8. One minor spot on the chiffon reverse side of veil as shown in last pic. Alencon trim lace has some small tears. I counted a total of 14( including minor pinhead tears) A couple lace tears are 2.5" on the corner and they are located by the head as shown in pics ... more9.10,11.These need repair. Other tears can be fixed or left as is since they are not noticeable. Otherwise immaculate. Light, soft, stored with care, no odors, great condition. My items come from a free smocking home. Here's an exquisite antique black lace mourning veil. Mantilla, lappet, scarf, stole or fichu. Victorian era, Gothic. Chantilly lace. Dimensions are 50" long x 13" wide. In the shape of a long graduated triangle with 13" at widest point. Estimated age around 1890's or so. Floral motifs. Very good to excellent condition with only a few loose tears or fraying around edges(see photos) Kept in a smoke free house. All sales are final.

Here is a very shapely small stole or similar in need of repair. But worth it! The Lace Mentor tells me: The stole- or is it some kind of fichu? It definitely has some sort of rounded ... moreshape. It is Brussels Appliqué and very pretty too. About the 1840s- 50s. With it's meandering pattern and very profuse too. There is a delightful design to the centre back. Sadly. It has quite large tear to the edges as shown. I would think that these are repairable especially as they are at the edge. One end also has quite a number of smaller holes as shown. Not a bright white. As none of the beautiful lace in this lot were, but a lovely thing. It measures 14" deep at the centre back. By 66" long in total. Not for wearing. This veil is very long and measures 108" x 20" wide This veil is lavishly embroidered with the most exquisite designs. Some of the embroidery designs on the veil vary in density. The end parts of the veil are intricately embroidered with lush openworked floral motifs. Flowers and sprays, tapering off towards the middle part of the veil. The middle part of the veil measures approx. 24" This part of the veil has a regular design of 2" x 1 1/2" The edge of this veil is slightly scallopped and has an embroidered edge of which the border measures 1 1/2" deep. Simple diamond shape mesh stole edged with Bucks bobbin lace trim. The piece still has it's original identification label from the Castle Howard Costume Collection. Which was the finest, privately owned collection of costume in the UK. It was sold to raise funds to restore Castle Howard. Condition is very good with a couple of small repairs in the net. A beautiful creamy white Art Nouveau. Hand made Carrickmacross appliqué lace stole or wrap. It has an Art Nouveau design of flowers and leaves. At each end and smaller designs of shamrock and flower groups in the centre. The wrap is 89" 226cm) long x 10" wide and in very good vintage condition, with two small, very light spots, but I haven't seen any breaks. There is no sign of the wrap having been used, but it had storage marks, so was gently washed. I am happy to post abroad and always combine postage where ever possible. A beautiful Victorian champagne silk Maltese bobbin lace scarf or stole. Which is hand made. The scarf has a design of Maltese crosses and wheat ear flowers with other shapes running down the centre. It is 66 1/2" 169cm) long and 8 1/2" 21.25cm) at the widest point. The scarf is in very good vintage condition and shows no sign of having been worn. This time I will be exploring new areas of France. Visiting large brocante fairs and markets… I am looking forward to filling my shelves with new finds! In the meantime, I still have lots of treats for you this week– I bought several boxes of antique textiles from en estate sale in Ayrshire, and am selling the last of the fine linens from the boxes I brought back from SW France at the end of last year…enjoy!
