Major clear out of my studio, it is now filling up fast with new auction finds. The new year began well– I was offered the fabulous contents of a Victorian linen cupboard and a family collection of lace from a local estate. I also acquired lots of new stock from two wonderful antique textile auctions- one in SW England and another in Yorkshire. I am continuing to list these items as soon as I have laundered and inspected them– lace, shawls, Edwardian and Victorian costume, a collection of buttons etc. Happy browsing! This is a lovely triangular antique tambour lace shawl. Veil or mantilla- snowy white and freshly laundered, with no marks or stains. There is a sprinkling of tiny holes(last photograph) ... morebut these are relatively easy to mend with a well placed stitch. the floral scrolling motifs and polka dots mean that your stitches can be disguised as little flowers. This could be worn over a strapless wedding dress, or even worn as a wedding veil- I have shown it worn in two different ways. The long edge is 210cm long, and the point at the back is 44cm long. Veil or scarf that measures 20" x 11" This is a machine made copy of Chantilly bobbin lace. The field of dotted netting is edged with two different patterns with a floral motif. Really beautiful! We acquired this piece from the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. This dates back to the civil war era C. 1850's. This is in really great shape for it's age. There is some damage along the curved side and some the lace has started to disintegrate on one of the corners as you can see in the pictures. Finding this hoard was just serendipity– I simply happened to be in the right place at the right time! I am also listing new items from two large country houses– one in Shropshire and one in SW Scotland. So do keep looking! Absolutely stunning long veil. Wrap or mantilla, dating to around 1880. It has beautiful floral patterns embroidered along all the edges, and is more richly embellished at each end. There are also undulating motifs running the length of the veil. Itl is 42cm wide and 260cm long. You could wear it attached to a ... morehair comb or headdress as a wedding veil, or wrap around your shoulders as a accessory to a strapless wedding dress perhaps? A beautiful Victorian bonnet veil of black tamboured lace. It looks like it was probably made from an earlier shawl as the top edge is hemmed. The design is quite dense& really attractive. The fabric is in good. Sound condition but there is fairly extensive fading so it is no longer jet black all over. It measures 124cm wide x 106cm long. So do keep popping back to see what I have unearthed! This is one of the finest antique French wedding shawls. Veils or mantillas I have come across recently. It is exquisite- even the tulle or filet background is hand netted, suggesting this is a ... morevery early piece. It is freshly laundered and snowy white, with no marks or stains. I can spot just one or two small breaks in the net ground(last 2 photographs) which I think could be easily remedied with a well-placed stitch or two. The scrolling floral motifs are all hand embroidered on to the net- so pretty. It measures 75cm wide x 259cm long. It could be used as a veil, a wrap or a shawl. Edged with a handmade lace border, with densely embroidered motifs at each end, this really is a special piece- perfect for a special bride-to-be! More photographs below. PLEASE READ. This week I shall be selling Antique Victorian& Edwardian Lace. Children and Baby clothes from my own collection. None of them have ever been on sale before as they belonged to the Mother of a friend who is in her 80s, and they remained in the family until they were given to me. I am not a business seller, I am just selling a lot of my own pieces in order to have some holidays this year after last years surgery and chemo and also to make more space for my own artwork. Description of the item A 19th century handmade Spanish Blonde Bobbin Lace Veil or Mantilla. This lovely Victorian veil. So beloved of Queen Victoria and the Victorians in mourning is silk bobbin lace on a netting ground. All the tiny leaf shaped motifs are of bobbin lace, so there is a remarkable amount of work and time in this piece. It measures. This lace is referred to as Spanish Blonde as it is made with silk, although a small amount of shiny white was also made but in much smaller quantities.I did have a piece in my possession a long time ago. The lace is of closely woven silk.Which gives it a lovely sheen and texture, and there are also some honeycomb fillings here and there in this lovely family heirloom veil.a beautiful piece of history. Condition Report. The condition is good with minor flaws: A little of the picot edge.about 2" Has come unstitched on the hem and there are 3 tiny holes in the netting above this. There are 2 tiny holes further along. And a small one in another place.this is the only damage I have found and I have taken photographs of the holes.probably the last two or three images in the row. Whilst the veil is fresh and clean from a smoke free home. It has the slightly musty smell of old silk which seems quite common I have found with black pieces in particular. Up for Sale A Stunning 19th Century Antique Elaborated Gros Point De Venise Hand Made Needle Lace Ivory Bridal Mantilla Veil Shawl or Runner. 23" x 54" I'm not an expert in linen. Please correct me if description is inaccurate. Please use closeup view to examine photos. Panoramic detailed view are shown in pics 6.7,8,9. I beleive the mid section fabric is a very fine linen. But there could be silk as well but I can't guarantee. Linen fabric has 16 pull thread squares. Squares" were they meant to change the mid section into net veil? Condition are shown in last pics. 1 1/4" red spot is shown in last pic. I believe spot will remove once laundered. Three tiny holes on the linen are shown in pics 10 and 11. Three pull thread"squares" have broken threads. Best if soaked in order to refresh it as it was stored ... moreaway for many decades. Color is light ivory cream. Almost white.
