A long barbe or lappets shaped from late 17th century bobbin lace with tiny scrolling and looping motifs. Many very tiny interesting filling stitches. Berainesque style, described as"light arabesques and playful grotesques" was popular from the late 1660s to early 1700s. Piece is fashioned into this long tie from a larger piece. Probably a flounce, by rounding the ends and adding a tiny bobbin lace edging to the cut edge. About 2 1/3 yards long. About 4 inches wide. Has been freshly washed. And is in very decent condition.
