Antique lace collar. Perhaps for a child as it is 5 1/2" long when laid as it would aroung the neck, and each side is approximately 1 3/4" wide at widest end. I believe it to be either Point de Gaze, or Belgian Duchesse Bobbin; made. I don't know much about laces. It is ecru in color and is very, very delicate. It is in PERFECT CONDITION. I recently bought an interesting collection of lace edgings and flounces from the collection of the late Susan Cox who founded the Tiverton lace school. Although some are quite short I shall list them all separately- if you buy more than one I will combine postage. This is a good long length of Duchesse lace with Point de Gaze inserts. It measures 3 yards 10 inches x 8 inches. This is in very good condition and appears to be unused. But feels a little dusty and is a dark ecru colour.

I guessed Duchesse and the Lace Mentor added the ... morerest of the information! What will I do without her? This is a very nice piece indeed. And yes, it is Duchesse. There are two kinds of Belgian Duchesse lace. Duchesse de Bruges, which only consists of bobbin-made naturalistic flowers and scrolls. And Duchesse de Bruxelles, which has needle-made inserts. Duchesse de Bruges must not be confused with Dentelle de Bruges. Which is a much coarser lace consisting of very simple patterns of stylized round flowerheads and scrolls. This collar is of course of Duchesse de Bruxelles. In superior pieces it is quite common to find separately made leaves applied for a 3D effect. While the rest of the collar has a ground of bobbin-made bars. The needle medallions and the bobbin wreath half surrounding them has a needle-made ground as in Point de Gaze(in fact. The medallions ARE Point de Gaze) Because of the size and exuberance of the decor. I'd be inclined to think it dates from the 1870s. So. A Duchesse lace with Point de Gaze medallions! Wow! As seen on photo, it seems to have been pleated to fit a dress perhaps, condition generally very good, it measures along the bottom inc velvet 11and a half inches and from top shoulder down at longest edge nearly 15 inc velvet, this is another piece appraised by mrs Pompi parry as a piece of intererst, the lady at the time seemed to be advisor to a museum.

This is a pretty Duchess lace collar with Point de Gaze lace insets. The Point de Gaze has roses. Each with a raised petal. The Point de Gaze is in good condition, the Duchess has several broken brides and a repair to back neck. Colour a soft old white with some slight discoloration to back neck. Neck measures 17 ins. Depth at back neck 5 ins.

This is a very pretty little Duchesse lace and Point de Gaze lace collar. It is a sandy colour and has probably been removed from a dress- there is the occasional small stitch remaining. Condition in general good but there is a little wear and several small holes to the net. In addition there is some discoloration to left side centre front. Three roses have several raised petals.

Badly damaged but much too good to throw away large collar of Brussels lace- Duchesse with Point de Gaze inserts. All kinds of damage- rust stains. Torn point de gaze inserts, broken connecting bars. The basic lace, however, is of very good quality, and well worth the effort to rescue and recycle individual motifs. Three nice but torn inserts of point de gaze needle lace with lovely rose motifs with raised petals that could be remounted on a fine silk net, or saved as study pieces or framed. Lots of well-formed Duchesse lace. Flowers and leaves with raised rib work, extra layers of cloth work, lots of nice detail. About 15 1/2 inches long on the inside edge; lapel front pieces about 10 inches from neck to bottom tip and about 7 inches across. Center back about 8 inches deep. Color off white; ecru. BRUSSELS DUCHESSE LACE FALL CAP. A typical headpiece of the 19th century that replaced the separate lappets and cap of the 18th century. This beautiful handmade piece features mixed Brussels lacemaking techniques: bobbin-made lace elements and four inserts of needlepoint lace roses on a point de gaze ground. The roses have raised rose petals. A decorative technique introduced in the 1870s. The fall cap is quite large and may also be used as a scarf. Each“lappet” is about 30” 76cm) long from the center of the“cap” There are a few weak or detached brides. I noticed one light spot. Believe it is an Antique hand made Lace, Brussels/ Point de Gaze/ Duchesse Lace Scarf or Lappet in a gorgeous medium ecru color, which we tried capturing in the photos by darkening the surroundings a bit. We took many photos of this Beauty! It measures 53" long by 5" wide. In Amazing condition, Lace is strong and clean, with no damage that we could find, it has one stain shown in the next to last photo and it is shown up close in the last photo. Vintage Antique Lace Brussels Duchesse Point de Gaze Handmade BIG Bertha collar
This is a BIG. Beautiful collar or table centerpiece. Originally a circle, it unfortunately is now in 3 pieces which can be put together. The lace is fabulous. All handmade. Most likely from turn of the 19-20th century. I am not an expert in types of lace. I am making my best guess in the title. But it is handmade without question, 3-dimensional, and fabulous. The leaves stick out and above the body of the lace. Hard to see in the pictures. Check the pictures carefully for the dimensions. I have laid out measuring tapes on the lace. No brown spots. Perfumes, smells, or problems- except the tears. Totally fabulous. Even if you didn't sew the pieces together, the biggest piece would make a terrific statement. This lace was also called Rose Point which refers to the distintive roses with raised petals. point meaning Lace- Rose Lace' This bold attractive high victorian style is just perfect for a Brides Wedding Dress. Amazing designer piece of costume. Excellent quality and lovely condition. Manufacture of this lace originated in 1850 and it is entirely hand done. The best quality Duchesse has shadings and raised work which can clearly be seen in this fine example. It is very deep at the back wide across the shoulders.
