Antique/vintage Spanish needlerun lace mantilla - Pat Earnshaw collection.
This is one of a small collection of lace shawls I bought recently from the collection of the late Pat Earnshaw. This is a needlerun lace mantilla- I think it is probably Spanish. But couldn't say for sure. It measures 31 ins x 2 yards 15 ins. There are several holes and areas of wear to the edge, apart from this near good condition.

So very pretty. I would imagine that this fingerless glove is mid 19th Century and very nicely made. If it had been the pair. I would certainly hope they went to a collector, but as a single, it would be lovely as part of a display, or for a trendy young lady to wear to a wedding. I think that the central design of flowers with leaves and buds is tamboured but so tiny is the work. It could be needlerun. The surround is spotted net. Then. The top edge and lower design is lace of ... moreflowerheads, with a tiny cuff of flounced lace to finish. I feel sure it is all hand made. Even the thumb is finely finished with curved edges. The condition is excellent but with mild staining. So give it a gentle rinse in cold water. It should come out very well. Depth 11cm and wrist width 14cm. Lovely! Lovely Antique Needlerun Lace Shawl Fichu 19th Century Victorian
Hand worked needlerun triangular shawl/fichu. With a repeating sprig running along the scalloped border on the two shorter sides. These sprigs contain a wonderful variety of filling stitches. There is a larger scale floral spray also with some interesting fillings in the main corner. The longest side is undecorated. The edges have been edged with a buttonhole stitch. Condition is fairly good for its age. But there are numerous small holes in the net and some small repairs. 19th century. Quite a bright white colour with a few faint marks. Here are three very deep flounces of needlerun lace that would decorate a Victorian dress beautifully! The lace Mentor dates the design to the circa 1840's although it has ... morea feel of an earlier period: The pattern has that slight rococo flavour you find in 1840s- 1850s items while still retaining the rows of little formal sprigs of the 1820s- 1830s. I'd definitely say 1840s. The flounces are in very fresh condition for age and generally very clean and bright. However. There are some very occasional dark stains that I would think need to be removed. I have not attempted to wash it as most is so fresh. Very occasionally we see a tiny hole to the net ground. Of no consequence. I didn't ask the Mentor about the footing- this seems to be simply rolled at the top in places. But is mostly a raw edge. A very attractive design. Richly applied to the border and individual motifs all over the top. So useful for many applications. Here I am back on eBay after a break of 12 months during which I have had surgery and chemotherapy. But that is behind me now and I have decided to sell my own collection of antique lace, textiles and collectables in order to fund two much needed overseas holidays to see friends and family next year. Description of the item. This is a beautiful antique Victorian shoulder cape. The intricate designs are of fine work.needlerun embroidery on netting very much in the style of Limerick Lace or Coggeshall Lace, but I cannot ... moresay definitely that it is one of these although it does appear to have been made by hand as the work is quite fine and varied.I have taken many close up photographs which you will be able to click on to enlarge, and also use the zoom feature, so I am sure that lace collectors will be able to decide on this. I recently saw an exhibition of Coggeshall lace at Payecockes in Coggeshall, where a lady was demonstrating the use of one of these tiny hooks to make the lace.I am also happy to hear from anyone who has more information that could help. It is a lovely thing. Having an attached collar which, along with the main body of the cape has a tiny picot edging and the colour is an old cream and there are problems so please see my condition report below. About the colouring and condition. I apologise for the poor quality photographs. But the weather has just been so dull of late that the lighting has been difficult. The lace is approximately 15" inches) deep and measures 64" around the hem. Condition. The colour is old cream. And the lace would benefit from a gentle wash as it appears to be a little dusty, although I have looked after it well, but not washed it. Sadly.
