This beautiful antique textile was most likely produced by a young woman as part of her wedding trousseau. The collection of linens gathered for married life. The 6 unique individual designs for each lace'window' are homely including a house, watering cans and rakes for a productive garden, a swan for love and life-long loyalty as well as a cross. The lace vignettes have been crocheted with added ribbon work in an ecru cotton thread and then set into open squares so the light shines through ... moreand then there is more ladder trim and lace on the bottom. The whole thing has that café au lait colour of antique lace and the condition is excellent with no damage. A seam sewn along the top suggests it was made to hang either above a bed or as curtain to hide shelving. Measures 93cm wide by 94cm long. A very individual and unique item. Irish Antique Lace Panel shamrocks rectangle hand made crochet
This panel with lace inset with tucked mesh is finished on all four sides. The ends have scalloped crochet or tatted edging. It is 15" X 8" 38 cm X 20 cm) It could have been a modesty panel(dickey) Trim on a dress. I think this came from my grandmother who acquired a large amount of lace from an Irish woman in Boston who had many samples of lace for her dress making business. I have seen that shamrock-like pattern on other pieces Irish lace. It is a vintage item: there are a few small holes that can be seen in the photo and there is a little staining. Antique Figural Crochet. Crocheted peacock figure in white cotton which may have been used as a curtain. Table topper, runner or perhaps as an insert for a tablecloth. It is large and measures 40 inches in length by 25 inches in width. The crochet is a fine gauge stitch. It is in general good clean condition with a few considerations. I have found two small very light and hard to find stains. Two photos with the dime show the area but the stain is difficult to see.
