A beautiful Victorian bonnet veil of black tamboured lace. It looks like it was probably made from an earlier shawl as the top edge is hemmed. The design is quite dense& really attractive. The fabric is in good. Sound condition but there is fairly extensive fading so it is no longer jet black all over. It measures 124cm wide x 106cm long. Antique/vintage black silk lace bonnet veil - Pat Earnshaw collection.
This is one of a small collection of lace shawls I bought recently from the collection of the late Pat Earnshaw. It is a delicate black silk lace bonnet veil. I think it probably dates from around 1840. It measures 30 ins x 37 ins. This has a fair amount of holes, but in the main these are along the joined lines of the lace strips. Has a distinct brown tinge. Very pretty design of what may be lilac flowers and leaves.

I think I have covered everything, it is gently sprinkled with little spots and has a border of applied flower heads and leaves, also for once the original ribbon, measurements are 50x15 and a bit inchs, from the same home as the little gowns I sold.

Bonnet veil 19th c. Brussels or Honiton bobbin lace applique bride collect CW
Something very old for the bride-a simple elegant small veil. Or fine scarf to cover bare shoulders for the ceremony. Could be either English Honiton or Brussels. The little leadworks in the edge motifs. As well as the tiny bobbin lace dots that powder the fine net field suggest the veil might be appliqued with Honiton bobbin lace rather than Brussels. Brussels more likely would have had needle-worked dots in the field. Tenstick loops were very typical of Honiton. Handmade Bobbin lace motifs are appliqued on machine made net. Probably mid 19th century. Totally appropriate for Civil War reenactor. About 15 inches deep at the widest point. About 38 inches long. Excellent condition. A couple very tiny holes in the net. She explained that it is bobbin applique on machine net and: It is very beautiful both in design and execution. I think the fillings point towards English manufacture(Honiton) rather than Brussels. Beautiful indeed. And in good condition for age. First it needs a gentle soak as it is discoloured with age. Not an unpleasant colour though, in my opinion. The edge which is decorated to three sides with flower heads. Has two missing flowers. There are two holes that are small and repairable and then scattered pinspots. A very nice piece for the lace collector. It measures 38" x 30" and I think that the threads are silk. But not completely sure. It is probably too fine for cotton and very lightweight. This is for a very fine and lovely. Somewhat rare 18th/19thc completely handmade Brussels bobbin lace bonnet veil. It has a wonderful rather unique design. Very beautiful and delicate and taking up most of the space. It has a fine droschel ground so very soft and fluid. There are a handful of small age related stains mostly gathered in the center at the top. Please see pic 8. There are also a few small openings in the net ground. The measurements are approx. 46" long x 22" wide. It is a really nice example. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Not fine lace at all, but decorated to the lower edge and with tiny motifs throughout. It is so small I think it must be for a child! Excellent condition. Measuring 14" deep and 20" wide. Just one tiny hole to the ground, of no consequence. The decoration is something I have seen often and I would date it to the late 19th Century. ENGLISH HONITON LACE BONNET VEIL Totally hand-made 18th Century The ground is vrai droschel.Made in strips 1.5 cms wide which were then joined and the bobbin lace motifs added. I.e. it is totally hand made and pre-dates machine made nets. I have attempted to show these strips with a close-up photograph. Being hand-made makes it extremely light and soft and must have taken many hours/days/weeks of work for one person to make. However such pieces were ususlly made by several people. Spectacular early 1800s English HONITON BOBBIN LACE BONNET VEIL COX COLLECTION
One of the most exquisite early 19th C. bonnet veils. With outstanding large, complex, and exquisitely made Honiton bobbin lace motifs The bottom border consists of two alternating stylized floral and leaf motifs, with meticulously made leadwork fillings. Notice, for example, how the shape of the long grass blade twists in design. Graceful curving grass and leaf fronds give movement to the design. Large lace motifs cover over half of the surface of the lace overall. Probably dates to about 1830-40 The tiny floral sprigs that are scattered over the field of fine machine net also are very precisely formed. With raised work in both the flower and leaf giving them dimension and texture. Veil overall about 44-45 inches across. And about 19 1/2 inches deep. Bottom motifs are over 4 inches deep. Main motifs are almost 10 inches across, and about ... more7-8 inches deep. Deep ecru color. Likely partly from age. Background net is fragile- the largest current net damage consists of two tears in the top corner. As shown in photo. Is very dusty from storage. And needs a very careful bath. Motifs all are in near perfect condition. Suitable as-is for a collector; probably would need to be reapplied to a new net for bridal or other use. Costume and accessories from two large country houses in SW Scotland, as well as many of the brocante treasures I brought back from France in May. I am continuing to sort and launder the boxes of textiles and ephemera from this trip, and am rather unsuccessfully trying to clear space in my studio… I return to France on 7 th August for some really special antique markets. So do keep popping back to see what I have unearthed! From a private collection- I have 3 wonderful antique French wedding veils listed this week. All date to the 1880s. Freshly laundered and snowy white, there are no marks, stains or damage. The cap ... moreor crown of the veil is made from embroidered tulle, and the edge is finished off with handmade Lille lace. There is a ribbon run around the front of the veil at the top- I imagine this would have been threaded with a silk ribbon, perhaps with a rosette at each side. The length of veil from the crown to the bottom edge at the front is 35cm- it is shorter at the back. This will fit any head size, as the cap part can be adjusted with a ribbon. For the collector- or for a vintage bride- something old, something new. More photographs below. PLEASE READ. I sell antique and vintage textiles and ephemera- unique items that have history. A VICTORIAN LIMERICK? NEEDLE RUN LACE TULLE BONNET VEIL
A Victorian needle run lace tulle bonnet veil. Which is probably Limerick lace. The tulle is extremely fine. It has a border pattern of hanging flowers, some are open with the tulle cut away and then filled with a needle filling. There are sprigged flowers over the rest of the veil. It is 149 1/2" 126cm) long x 12" 30cm) deep. It is in very good vintage condition. With a very few small holes in the tulle, mostly in one area, shown in the last photograph and a couple of very small rust spots. Early 1800s Embroidered Net Bonnet veil Damaged. BRIDE COLLECT DECOR
Large white embroidered net bonnet veil. Probably first half of the 1800s. The design and embroidery are especially delightful. The lacemakers running in the designs used a great deal of imagination and skill, and each of the motifs is special and different. A great deal of good embroidered design that could be rescued and recycled. Each of the flower sprigs along the edges is slightly different. As are the major"strawberry" designs. Great study material for a lacemaker. Unfortunately a lot of damage to the machine net. Significant holes. But overall clean and white. About 30 inches long. And about 34-35 inches wide. This very wide antique bonnet veil can easily be used as a very lightweight stole. Or draped mantilla style around the face in addition to it's original purpose. So lightweight. The main parts of the lace are cobweb-like but for some lucky reason, these fine strands have stood the test of time very well indeed! There is a narrow top border with a leaf design. The lower edge is a deeper design and very attractive. With an interesting two-tone effect that creates shadows ... morewithin the leaves. The piece is certainly antique and I presume late Victorian. But it could be a little later. The lace panel is perfect as far as I can see. A few unfinished threads at the side ends which will be easy to remove. Of no consequence at all. A very attractive mourning accessory. 56" wide by 18" deep. The grey bonnet is for sale separately and is not part of this sale. Please do take a look in my shop if you have the time!
