Stunning Antique Edwardian Lace& Silk High Collar& Dress Front-WOW! This stunning collar features 3 layers of lace divided by wide bands of ivory silk. Lace trim adorns the top of the high collar. The middle section of the dress front is a different pattern than the lace at the bottom. The bottom section is also gathered and frilly. Two black velvet ribbons are attached to each side of the collar to be tied at the back of the wearer's neck. There are several places that require minor repair including sections where the lace is pulling apart from the silk. A few small holes- including one in the very center of the middle layer(albiet heart-shaped! and some evidence of fraying. There are no large or significant tears, holes or missing pieces. It is finished off with a neatly bound edge& fastens with little mother-of-pearl buttons. The colour is like very milky coffee. It looks unused& is in very good condition with just a couple of small age spots from long storage. Since it is all finished off with its own fasteners. It could be worn as it is, over a garment, almost as a necklace. The neck opening is 14 1/2" or 37cm& the front part is 9" or 23cm from top to bottom. Just charming! Antique Victorian handmade lace collar ~ dress embellishment I am not an expert on lace but think this collar is handmade needle lace. Possibly Honiton and dates from the late 19th century. It is tacked onto black paper. Please see third picture for measurements. It is in good order but a gentle laundering wouldn't come amiss. Item Description& Condition: Edwardian Lace Collar Dress Bodice Front- Large Large Edwardian Lace Dress Bodice and Collar with three bronzed lace inserts. The lace is quite a sturdy lace. There are two covered metal bones sewn into the collar and tiny silvered hooks and eyes to close the collar and back. I believe that this was once attached to a dress- the edges that would perhaps have been sewn around/ beneath the armholes are a little ragged. There are a few issues commensurate with usage/ storage- ... moreMain points: This item has not been cleaned and does have discolouration mainly to part of the back panel. The hooks and eyes may need a few replacement stitches to strenghthen them. A small amount of the covering on the bones has come away in parts and exposed the wire to some tarnishing. There are a few broken brides/ connections mainly to one area on the neck and to one side. Size: My model is a 32" bust but I do not know where to measure the bodice for an accurate measurement. It may be for a slightly larger bust?
