This is a beautiful piece of antique Belgian lace. Probably from the late 19th century, as it was part of my grandmother's estate. I think it is a glove, or some kind of cover with openings between the front and back. The back is hand-pleated and has a very delicate edging. I think the whole piece was handmade, with the top being a beautiful example of"Point de Gaze" bobbin lace, but I do not have the expertise to authenticate this. The width of the front lace is 5" at its widest point; the length of the solid back piece, measured from the center of the top to the bottom of the piece is 5 1/8" Please refer to the photos for details. The lace work alone is perfect to disassemble and incorporate into something unique. The front of the lace pillow layover sham has a center rectangle of pulled threads on linen and is framed around the 4 sides with handmade Belgian Rosaline Bobbin lace. The little perles are needle lace raised buttonhole motifs. The front of the pillow layover is full of classic tiny motifs. I was told that these are each made individually and then joined with braided bars that connect where they touch the motifs. The back of the pillow layover is a semi sheer organdy material.
