I am unsure of the age of the cabinet, but I would guess that it dates to the early ... moreto mid-19th Century. It is made of what I believe is walnut, and has hand crafted, pressed, and hammered copper panels in the doors, drawer fronts, and top molding. It has lion head accents in both the copper panels and the wood, as well as detailed carved accents and brass rings hanging from several of the lion heads. There are a couple of the wooden lion heads that are damaged, with the lower jaw and brass ring broken off and missing. There is one brass ring still present with the cabinet, that could possibly be re-attached. The wood on the inside of the drawer is beginning to split at the back bottom, as can be seen in the photos.

There are a couple of small trim pieces where the backsplash meets the base that are missing, a couple that are loose. The top section of the backsplash has seperated and a couple small pieces of carved trimwork are missing as a result(can be seen in the pics) There is a small a chip on the front left edge of the table surface. One of the locks is missing from one of the doors and there is a stain on the top that can be clearly seen in the photo. Im sure there are other bumps/bruises but nothing glaring. All that having been said, this piece is really stunning in person and all of the condition issues are fairly simple repairs. The flaws I mentioned are only noticed upon close scrutiny and have never been pointed out to me by anyone who has seen it in person. Original finish is in good shape, just as it appears in the photos. The color, in person, is probably somewhere between the lightest and darkest photos. The carving on this piece is AWESOME! The quartersawn grain is heavy and pronounced. Bought this piece and the matching server, which I will be listing soon) to restore but I am out of time/space. I feel I have a reasonable opening bid on this piece but if it does not sell, I will restore it and the price will go up considerably. Personally, im kinda getting burned out on the figurals and winged griffins that usually adorn pieces of this quality so its nice to see a great piece without that typical subject matter. Being presented for sale is this gorgeous 19th c Victorian Walnut& Burl Carved Fruit& Lions Brown Marble Top Sideboard circa 1880's. This fabulous Victorian sideboard features an abundance of beautiful carvings from top to bottom.the carved pediment having a shell carving at the center of raised panels of burl. Stick and ball, vertical slats,a carved fruit basket at the center top with floral& foliate carved supports with carved lions resting on the beautiful brown marble top. Intricate floral& foliate carvings on the base top and cabinet doors. This sideboard also has it original large wood casters intact on the base with what we believe to be the original beveled mirrors which are in beautiful antique condition with only some very minimal spotting. This sideboard measures 88 1/2 inches in total height(7' 4 1/2" ... moreHeight to the top shelf from the floor measures 78 inches, height from the floor to the marble top measures 38 1/4 inches, with a total width of 48 inches and depth front to back of 22 inches at the base and this sideboard weighs approximately 165 lbs but does disassemble into 4 pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving.The large original beveled mirror measures 39 1/4 inches wide by 17 1/4 inches high. The original brown marble top is in fantastic antique condition with no issues we can find. There is a couple of old repairs on the vertical slats at the top that appear solid and secure and not an issue in my opinion. Here we have a simply amazing oak sideboard. Carved with amazing detail of Lions& Female faces. Done in two pieces with the top section having a grand mirror arch. In very nice antique condition. There are glass doors on the top section. There is one border trim on left glass door that is missing. Easy fix. Knob on center door may or may not be original and a bit loose.
