Purely cosmetic, Very sturdy, This unique sideboard was made during the Regency period in England. Sometime around 1820. In keeping with classic Regency period design, this sideboard was crafted with a series of large, bold features that have helped not only to make it a beautiful specimen of English craftsmanship, but also a strong and enduring furniture piece. For example, the wood used in this sideboard is ... moreincredibly thick(note the large legs) and of course all of it is solid. The flame mahogany, which has developed a lovely patina, displays an incredibly rich grain and complexion. The solid brass handles have been replaced at some point, but they are antique themselves and go well with the Regency period. There is an age split to the top on the back right hand side, but this is very minor and purely cosmetic. A picture is included of it. The top has minor marks throughout that show as distressing that gives the piece authenticity of its age without detracting from it. Overall this sideboard is very sturdy and is a wonderful value for such a wonderful piece. Plenty of storage space in this sideboard. The left drawer is fitted to hold wine bottles. The drawers are jointed with hand cut dovetails. These antique brass pulls are not original to the piece. But are consistent with the style. The thick. Turned legs are one of the main characteristics of the Regency style. The mahogany has developed a beautiful patina.

This a 19th century antique mahogany sideboard with some solid mahogany. Some figured mahogany veneers and pine secondary. There are two drawers over what appears to be three doors but is actually two doors. The right hand drawer is a lined drawer for silver ware and the bottom section can be totally locked. Drawers are hand dovetailed and the bottoms of the drawers are chamfered. The columns are like double ended C scrolls and the feet are simple.typical mid 1800's Empire Revival piece. Height to top = 40 1/2" Width = 57" Depth at deepest = 24" The lock sets are original. They are the"same" lockset in that they are both either left handed or right handed as the key needs to be reversed to work each lock. They lock easily. The key has been replaced. This stunning sideboard/dresser/buffet travelled from England to America with my parents when they moved here in the 1970's. And took pride of place in their home for the remainder of their lives. It is now time to liquidate their assets, and pass on the pleasure of ownership of such a beautiful and versatile piece to someone who appreciates the beauty, history and craftsmanship of high quality furniture. It is made of mahogany, with beautifully carved embellishments and a gorgeous, flawless large focal mirror. The bottom section has six dove-tailed drawers, and the top section consists of a large focal mirror flanked on each side by two small shelves. Above the main mirror is another shelf, ab ove which is a smaller mirror. Both mirrors have bevelled edges. The top section is attatched to the bottom part with screws, so it will come ... moreapart for easier moving. The top has shapely openwork galleries dovetailed together and graduated spool turned posts ending in delicate finials.The shelves and base are framed with decorative beaded arrow design moldings. The dovetailed drawer has a desk and inkwell cubbies inside.There is an age crack in the desk top(inside the drawer) The cabinet base has the original shelf. This piece is a very desirable and rare diminutive size. The craftsmanship is outstanding.It has a lovely patina. The exposed woodwork is a mix of solid mahogany and thick flame mahogany veneering that is finished to a beautiful. Warm color. All parts are straight and solid and fit together as they should. The doors fit well. Operate smoothly and lock securely. Overall the cabinet is in very good antique condition. There are a few minor cracks that are very typical of old mahogany woodwork(see photos) There is also a metal bracket on the backside of one of the legs that was put there to support the leg because of a small amount of old dry rot(see photos) There are some worm holes on the back of the cabinet. Investing just a bit into the minor repairs to the veneer to restore this great buffet to it's former glory will make this piece even more special and valuable if you prefer antiques restored and in near perfect condition. This beautiful sideboard stands 44 1/2 inches tall to the top surface of the sideboard and 49 3/4 inches tall to the top of the serpentine mantle across the back edge. It measures 63 inches long at it's widest point at the outside of the beautifully carved lion's feet on the front legs and the top surface board is 61 3/4 inches long. The piece is 24 3/8 inch deep front to back. Again at the deepest point at the lion's feet which protrude beyond the front of the drawers and cabinets, and 21 3/4 inch front to back at the top surface board and general body of the sideboard. There are two drawers on either side of a slightly smaller drawer across the top of the sideboard. All clean within and beautifully hand dovetailed. The back-splash or Chimney Back is banded on both ends. Three rounded drawers with original glass knobs offer nice storage for silverware and linens. Three doors at the bottom have raised panels and are each banded. Beautifully carved columns also decorate the front of the sideboard. Claw feet support the front. I think it is in fantastic condition for it age. But here are the apologies, there is slight veneer chipping~very minimal, but there will be some with a piece of this age. One brass key hole and lock are missing, the other doors lock. The feet have had some repair. That being said, if you are looking for true elegance and love the richness of beautiful Mahogany, this sideboard ... morewill surely add that elegance and richness to any home.
