for auction is a monumental antique finest quartersawn oak sideboard i have ever seen or owned. Save one. i own one a tiny bit better maybe and it is unlikely that it is ever for sale in my lifetime. i am also an antique so one never knows when they may cross the bar. at any rate, the previous owner has toyed with selling this piece for the last 5 years or so and i told my picker if he ever sold it i would buy it. the fella that picks for me is paranoid and will never disclose names or locations, like he is afraid i will cut him out someway. anyway, i don't drive anymore out of the county so he should know i won't be going anywhere. anyway, everything is a big secret with martin. i have no history on the piece but there are a few things i can tell you. it is as good or better than any horner piece i own, and i have several, or have ... moreever owned, and that has been hundreds. the piece was made by berkey and gay and is signed in the top drawer. it is made of the finest quartersawn oak that could be had in the day. the top shelf which is not pictured so you can ascertain the flake is absolutely wonderful. the carving is masterfully done, no detail is left undone. the lion heads at the top are huge and life like and curl down to support the second shelf and come to rest on a very large paw that rests on the top of the sideboard. the doors are carved to death with one large lion head in the center and two smaller ones below the large center head located at 4 and 8 p.m. it is so busy you have to look to actually make them out but they are there and extremely well done. it has large lion heads on either side of the base that are above one of the largest and finest claw feet i have ever seen on a piece of furniture. it has a large cupid head in the center of the top of the thick molded support for the top. i think i measured the cupid at 7 inches wide. it has two large beveled mirror which appear to be original enclosed with very fine carved moldings. i could go on and on, but it is carved, molded, and fluted everyw

for auction a wonderful antique quartersawn oak server or could be used as a sideboard in a smaller dining room sitting. it has great form and beauty. The top and bottom sides are bombayed, the center drawers are bowed in a fine fashion. three curved upperdrawers, the center with felt. it has two doors on either side as you see. the piece is presented in original finish, all the hardware is original and perfect including the door locks. each drawer has original lock, all locks work with ease and i have the original key for it. it has two fierce whole bodied griffins on the mirror crest which are carved in a very fine fashion. it has the original beveled mirror which needs to be cleaned. as i was cleaning the woodwork on the mirror frame some of the new life got on the mirror and i just wiped it off, should have used some water. anyway, the ... moremirror will clean up nicely and only has a few minor areas of silver loss. this is a very heavy piece, i can barely lift one end with the drawers out and the mirror off. it was made by a superior cabinet maker, possibly horner of new york, as the drawer construction with the birdseye maple bottom are very indicative of his work. it could have been made by berkey and gay from mich. really doesn't matter who made it. it is constructed with perfection. it has 4 very well carved claw feet that support it. the cabinet is in wonderful antique condition with great patina. i cleaned and polished it as it has been in storage for a few years. it is quite solid and everything that is suppose to work, works like the day it was made. there are no major blemishes but on a piece that is 120 years old you can expect a few little bumps and bruises, however, i would classify this piece as near mint condtion. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. good luck fyi, i paid 2000 for it years ago, i am starting it at 2300. ebay has triple their fees, it used to be 3 percent, they raised to 10 percent, greedy bastards. at any rate, their commission and listing fees etc. wi

for sale is a very nice antique solid quartersawn oak buffet made in 1904. it has a nice backspash with a carved crest and the original beveled mirror. it also features twisted legs and twisted columns as part of the back splash. it has double yoke stretcher which adds additional beauty to the piece and additional support to the legs which is really not needed i don't think. it is rock solid with no wiggles. Wobbles, loose joints, or any other issues to report that would be deemed detrimental to the buffet. it features abundant quartersawn oak flake over the entire piece. it has a long drawer across the top with dividers in it and two large drawers below it in the center and of course as you see two doors, one on either side, that expose a large storage area which has a half shelf which may be put in if desired. the i have the holder ... morepins for the shelves. all the locks are extremely clean and quite functional. the drops on the drawers are large and solid brass and are heavy since they are solid. the buffet is 60 inches wide, 39.5 inches to the top of the cabinet portion and 54.25 inches to the top of the crest of the back splash. it is 24 inches deep. it moves easily on its original metal casters. the piece is rock solid, all original with no missing parts or pieces and no repairs that is see. it is near mint condition. it matches a table i now have listed as well as a set of 6 chairs. i tried the set together with no luck, so i have busted it up and will sell the pieces separately. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. good luck. fyi.
